Product Review: Nike Method Midnight Putter

Have you seen anyone on the course the last couple days with a brand new, cool-looking putter? Look closer. Is there a swoosh? If you answered “yes” to both those questions, chances are you’re looking at Nike’s latest offering - the Method Midnight, which was just release June 15.

The Method Midnight comes in three models and features polymetal face groove technology, which combines steel and polymer.

“The multidimensional face is the primary technology of these products - everything revolves around this,” said David Franklin, Master Model Maker.

What’s the big deal? American Golfer took the Method Midnight out for an extended test to answer that question.

The average golfer may not know this, but most traditional steel-faced putters start the ball with backspin, which creates an initially bounce. The revolutionary polymetal groove technology generates a forward spin much sooner to minimize bounce and keep putts on line.

Picture this ... You have a 10-footer for birdie and know the break. You start the putt online with perfect speed, yet the ball fails to find the bottom of the cup. Don’t blame yourself and assume you misread or misfired. And don’t look for a spike mark to explain that initial hop. Instead, put a Method Midnight in your bag and make the putt - eliminating those excuses.

Listen, golf is a difficult game and putting is right at the top of the list of reasons. Why not give yourself every advantage available. You work hard to reach the green and should provide every opportunity to close each hole with success. The Method Midnight is that opportunity.

American Golfer found the Method Midnight to have excellent balance and feel. We made a large percentage of putts between 5 and 15 feet, and were comfortable in getting lags from longer distances to within tap-in range, but you don’t have to take our word for it. Look at success these putters have had on Tour. Prototypes of the Method Midnight 006 and 007 already have won U.S. Open (Lucas Glover) and Open Championship (Stewart Cink), and Michelle Wie’s first LPGA victory came with the Method Midnight 007 head shape.

Method Midnight putters come with a MSRP of $323.99 ($269.99 MAP) and are available now. If you’re looking for a truer role and want to make more putts, put a Method Midnight in your bag. Stop looking for phantom spike marks and start looking for your ball in the bottom of the cup.
