PGA Family Cup Launches Nationwide in 2022

Family Cup is a chance for families to connect through golf and play as teams in a variety of formats

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – PGA Family Cup will launch nationwide Tuesday as a way to bring family members of all ages and skill levels together to create lasting memories through the game of golf.

Previously a limited pilot program, nearly 50 PGA Professionals hosted more than 500 family teams last year. Now, all PGA and LPGA Professionals, Associates and PGA Golf Management University Program Students are eligible to host events as “PGA Family Cup Coaches.”

“As the game’s expert coaches, PGA Professionals are well equipped to host PGA Family Cup events that further build a community at their facilities, strengthen relationships and create lifelong golfers,” said PGA of America President Jim Richerson. “This is a new and exciting way to involve the entire family in the game, and I’m thrilled that our Membership is leading this innovative growth-of-the-game effort. These are the kind of forward-thinking programs that can introduce our game to multiple generations.”

The innovative and welcoming format involves teams of two family members or more (with at least one junior, age 17 or under) playing in a par-3, 9-hole scramble. PGA Family Cup Coaches can customize their event format in creative ways to meet the needs of their participating teams. In 2021, PGA Family Cup Coaches found tremendous success with themed events, such as celebrating the beginning or end of their PGA Jr. League season or including costume contests where teams dressed up and decorated their golf carts.

“PGA Professionals have been met with a surge of newcomers to the sport with everyone looking for activities they can enjoy outdoors, and families in particular are discovering that it is the perfect way to spend uninterrupted, quality time together.” said PGA of America Senior Director of Player Engagement Steve Tanner. “PGA Family Cup events are the turnkey answer, allowing PGA Professionals to accommodate all ages and skill levels and guide them through their golf journeys.”

PGA Family Cup Coaches and families can register at PGAFamilyCup.com. If families cannot locate an event nearby, they are encouraged to contact a local PGA Professional.
