New seasonal collections feature understated color combinations ideal for both on, off the golf course
(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) — Ahead’s Fall 2022 apparel offerings for men and women will appeal to the company’s long-standing, loyal customers while providing options for golf’s infusion of new players.
“We are a lifestyle brand,” said Chuck Lord, chief creative officer for ahead. “The current wave of golfers is bringing new blood to the sport and these customers tend to shy away from traditional golf apparel in favor of a more contemporary look. Ultimately, it comes down to the consumer to drive changes and, quite honestly, it’s reinvigorating for us to embrace what’s new and anticipate what’s coming next.”
For men, ahead is unveiling two seasonal collections debuting new colors that Lord defined as “soft and understated, toned down for Fall.” A slate-and-salmon collection offers seven unique polos, including the Wellspring, which features a muted palm print with a distinctive resort feel. The Nexus offers a fresh take on a geometric print with a blurred plaid pattern.
The second collection is a fern-denim-navy combination that again uses subtle colors to form a fashion-forward collection of polo shirts, pullovers, and quarter-zip vests. The Riptide space dye polo features a series of tiny squares to make up the print, while the Breakers water print polo — seizing on a growing trend — has a linear, geometric feel. The Pintail polo, with an abstract palm print outline, rounds out the diverse collection.
Both collections include outerwear offerings, highlighted by the Threshold pullover, a lightweight heathered windowpane that is new to the ahead line and draws its roots from the surf culture. The Mainstay quilted fabric pullover is another trendy, attractive addition for Fall.
Ahead has long led with its T-shirt and sweatshirt offerings. For Fall ’22, the company is introducing the Onshore French terry lightweight crewneck pullover in five colors, including new colors salmon and fern.
The popular Cottonwood and Seabrooke hoodies will return with a twist. “These continue to be very cool, season after season,” Lord said, “and for Fall ’22 we are introducing new streetwear and surf wear inspired graphics to embellish them.”
Outerwear pieces for Fall include wind shirts, each available in three color combinations to pair with the new color collections. The pieces are accented with a back neck tape and zipper pull both featuring ahead’s signature cyan color. “We will continue to strategically incorporate our pop blue into select items in a subtle way to give them a bit of zing,” Lord said.
For Fall ’22, ahead is introducing two new collections for its ahead women’s line (formerly Kate Lord):
Pearl, cashmere, black, and white. This collection is being introduced with six polo shirts and three skorts, including a modern cheetah print. “Similar to the men’s line, this collection doesn’t scream traditional golf as it has a more retail but still sporty look,” Lord said. “Animal prints aren’t new to golf, but we’ve enhanced the look with warmer, earthy colors.”
True navy and rouge. Softer colors again define this appealing combination, which features grapefruit as an accent color to provide a pop of brightness. The print pattern has a floral look, closely resembling an artist-grade oil stick. The versatile collection features polos, skorts, and pullovers, and is punctuated by the new Lancer jacket for women, a hybrid full zip incorporating a wearable stretch woven.
For the first time, ahead is debuting a bouclé full-zip jacket for women. A French word that means to curl, bouclé is a heavy fabric made from looped yarn, giving a nubby texture. Available in an oatmeal color, the Fleetwood jacket is ideal to match with any color or combination.
The Sue crewneck split side pullover continues to be one of ahead’s most popular lifestyle items for women. For Fall ’22 ahead will introduce three new colors in this best seller: rouge, sky blue, and snow camo.
