Pound Ridge Golf Club Honored in Golf Advisor’s ‘Top 50 Toughest U.S. Courses’

(POUND RIDGE, N.Y.)
– Pound Ridge Golf Club – legendary Pete Dye’s modern marvel in Westchester County –  announces a strong ranking of  No. 7 in Golf Advisor’s  2020 “Top 50 Toughest Golf Courses in the U.S.”

To arrive at its top 50 toughest layouts, Golf Channel’s Golf Advisor used over 350,000 ratings from their avid reviewer community. Pound Ridge joins additional prestigious and challenging courses on the list including Pebble Beach Golf Links, Black Course at Bethpage State Park, Erin Hills Golf Course, Chambers Bay Golf Course, and the Bluffs Course at Arcadia Bluffs.

In addition to Pound Ridge, the only Pete Dye design in New York State, the coveted list also highlights several other acclaimed Dye creations including the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort, Straits Course at Whistling Straits, The Stadium  at PGA West, Harbour Town Golf Links and The Players Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.

The bucolic public layout less than an hour north of New York City and minutes from White Plains, Greenwich, Stamford and Norwalk (Conn.) showcases Mr. Dye’s genius for creating exceptional shot values and a pure golf experience for guests. Pound Ridge is also ranked No. 6 in Golfweek’s “Best Courses You Can Play in New York” for 2020.

Pound Ridge will host the 2021 Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) Public Links Championship. To be played next summer, the tournament will mark the 73rd rendition of the prestigious MGA event which is the oldest public golf course championship in the U.S.

“Pound Ridge continues the undeniable legacy of the genius of Pete Dye to test all the clubs in a golfer’s bag while also enjoying the legacy of his wonderous designs,” says Darren Wang, managing partner of Pound Ridge Golf Club. “While our course is a formidable challenge from the back tees, we feature five additional tee box options for players of all abilities to have a great time away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.”

Pound Ridge sits regally on 172 acres of pastoral Westchester County with dramatic rock outcroppings, streams and wooded, rolling hills converging to create an enjoyable and challenging par-72 course. Depending on the tees, the course plays from 5,151 to 7,165 yards while providing challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Among its unforgettable holes is the dramatic par-5 13th which is home to “Pete’s Rock,” a giant boulder that rests in the middle of the fairway.
