Women’s Golf Day Announces Revised Date, Virtual Celebration

(WEST PALM BEACH, FLA) — In light of the escalated response to the global Coronavirus pandemic, the Women’s Golf Day leadership team is announcing a new approach to this year’s 5th anniversary event planned to take place worldwide on June 2, 2020. This year, WGD is adapting the event to bring the industry together to engage and empower women as part of a virtual WGD celebration on June 2nd. The health and well-being of WGD partners and guests is paramount, so the events that take place worldwide as part of the world’s largest single day celebration of women’s golf will move to the 1st of September, providing that there is clearance from the WHO and governing bodies. By making this change, WGD is providing two opportunities for engagement.

By setting a new date, which is provisionally September 1st, Founder of WGD Elisa Gaudet hopes to offer the industry something positive to focus on at this challenging time. She explains: “The global community finds itself in an unprecedented situation and we need to respond appropriately. Women’s Golf Day is in a unique position because we have the flexibility to react quickly to the changing landscape whilst also giving the industry something positive to aim towards.  Our mission and platform is that of a global unifier. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely, but we are hopeful that the September date is realistic.”

In the meantime, plans are in place to create a virtual celebration of Women’s Golf Day on the original June 2nd date.  Just as in previous years, the day’s celebration will start as the sun rises in Australia and end as the sun sets in Hawaii. Expect to see video content from famous faces and inspirational stories from across the world shared across the campaign’s social media platforms.  Social media has always played a significant role in the success of the event, delivering a staggering 47 million global impressions to nearly 25 million people in 2019 and it is hoped that the 2020 campaign will be a catalyst to support a post-pandemic resurgence of the industry.

An Open Letter Regarding Golf During COVID-19 from Bobby Jones Links Co-Founder Whitney Crouse

Let Golf Go On. It’s A Walk In The Park.


(OPINION) — Across the country and the world, people are facing an unprecedented situation in terms of personal and economic wellbeing with the coronavirus pandemic. Bobby Jones Links supports efforts to #flattenthecurve and recognize that this is critical to our path forward. As golf industry professionals, we also recognize that the game of golf is uniquely positioned to offer people a safe way to get out, exercise and commune with nature while securely practicing social distancing.

We understand there are many things we can’t do now for the greater good of all of us, but golf does not have to be one of them.

With the proper precautions, golf can be as safe as a walk in the park. In addition to following the CDC’s guidelines, here’s how we can do it:

Golf course check-in can now be done by phone or online. This was coming; now it’s a standard operating procedure. There’s no need to go in a golf shop or clubhouse.

Our clubhouses are closed, except for our restrooms, which are sanitized and allow one person at a time to use them.

We’ve removed all the sand trap rakes, ball washers, and water coolers. There’s no common points of contact on a golf course anymore.

We play with the flagsticks remaining in the hole. Golf cups are inverted or less shallow so when picking the ball out of the hole, the golfer touches nothing but his or her golf ball.

Our range balls are washed in bleach solutions or similar type of disinfectant. They come clean to the customer. The distance between range tee stations has also been increased.

Our customers can bring their own snacks and beverages onto the course.

We are spacing out our tee times, so groups don’t form on the course or on the first tee.

We are encouraging only one golfer to ride in a cart at a time.

Through these best practices, now a member or customer can go from their car, to the first tee, with the option of walking the course, if they don’t want to take a sanitized cart, never touching anything unsafe - all while keeping six feet from other golfers.

That makes golf as safe as a walk in the park. That keeps many people employed. That maintains the well-being of many of our citizens.

2020 Arnold Palmer Cup Teams Named

(NORMAN, Okla.) – The Arnold Palmer Cup is slated for July 3-5 at Lahinch Golf Club and in these unprecedented times we do not know if the matches will be held as scheduled, postponed, or canceled. With the pandemic affecting so many lives around the globe, there are certainly more pressing issues than golf. However, we would like to recognize the accomplishments of these college golfers since last summer and during this college season.

The United States team is led by returners from last years team in Emilia Migliaccio (Wake Forest), Kaitlyn Papp (Texas), John Augenstein (Vanderbilt), and Quade Cummins (Oklahoma). Men’s Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking selections include Augenstein, Garett Reband (Oklahoma), Cooper Dossey (Baylor), Cummins, Evan Katz (Duke), and William Mouw (Pepperdine). Women’s ranking selections include, Rachel Kuehn (Wake Forest), Kenzie Wright (Alabama), Julia Johnson (Ole Miss), Addie Baggarly (Florida), Latanna Stone (LSU), and Allyson Geer (Michigan State).

Joining Ricky Castillo (Florida) Migliaccio, Kaitlin Milligan (Oklahoma), John Pak (Florida State), Papp, and Davis Thompson (Georgia), who were selected on March 4, will be Pierceson Coody (Texas), Jaime Jacob (Cal State San Marcos), Gina Kim (Duke), Andy Ogletree (Georgia Tech), Megan Schofill (Auburn) and Zach Zediker (Delta State) as Team USA committee selections.

Jacob and Zediker become the first representatives from their respective schools.

ASGCA launches “Great Junior Golf Design Challenge”

Fun way to help families pass time during Covid-19 crisis; encouraging children to use their imagination to design a golf hole 


(BROOKFIELD, Wis.) – The American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) has launched a program to showcase creativity in golf course architecture among young people. “The Great Junior Golf Design Challenge of 2020,” encouraging children to design their own golf hole, was created as a way to give families an opportunity to involve children in the art of golf course design during the worldwide crisis of COVID-19.

The challenge – a fun activity rather than a contest – is simple. Young people ages 17 and younger may submit design ideas for golf holes of any par, style or strategy, and from whimsical to serious. Submissions may be created in any medium (pencil, markers, crayon or digital) as long as it fits within the provided border from ASGCA. Scans or photos of designs may be sent via e-mail to juniordesign2020@asgca.org or uploaded via Twitter to @ASGCA to be shared on social media and ASGCA.org. “Families are struggling with having schools closed and the amount of ‘at-home time’ during this crisis,” said ASGCA President Jan Bel Jan. “A few of our members brainstormed the idea, which came to us from Jay Smith, an aspiring golf course architect based in McAlpin, Florida. We’re offering this positive diversion when so many are confined to their homes.”

The emphasis of the program is to get creativity flowing, and to celebrate the art of golf course architecture among young people. Nathan Crace, ASGCA, and Lester George, ASGCA, stepped in to work on the idea, which came to Smith with the help of his wife, Rebecca. “It started as a simple idea of getting kids involved in the shadows of an unprecedented pandemic,” says Smith. “We thought it would boost morale and could evoke art, engineering, and geometry — in a fun way. Our youngest son, Johnny, enjoys watching me sketch and draw, submits his own ideas for my review. From there it just snowballed. It would have been great if this existed when I was younger.”

Crace shared his experiences. “As a young boy, I spent hours drawing imaginary golf holes on plain paper and by age 10 I had built three holes on my parents' land in Indiana. Hopefully, this challenge will give boys and girls that same spark to display their creativity for everyone to see!”

“It affords children the opportunity to express their creativity by imagining and graphically depicting their version of a fun and remarkable golf hole,” George added. “What better way to spend time during these days at home?”

ASGCA plans to share comments on the designs from ASGCA members and others who follow ASGCA on social media. “It’s important to point out that this is not a contest,” notes ASGCA Vice President Forrest Richardson. “The idea is to stimulate creativity and help take the edge off of the stress that comes with staying at home for a prolonged period and being uncertain of what comes next.”

GolfTalk Live Expands Again—Brings Co-Host Allen DePuy on Board

(PHILADELPHIA, Pa.) — The award-winning GolfTalk Live radio show, a national award-winner for 11 years of its existence, has had a record of constant growth in its 14-year history. Now it is taking another major step toward expansion.

As of April 1, golf industry veteran Allen DePuy, will become a partner of the show and a co-host with founder Tony Leodora.

“This is very exciting news,” said Leodora. “I have known Allen for many years and worked with him on an increasing basis. He is one of the most respected business minds in the golf industry and his personality lends itself to our interview-driven shows.

DePuy, a resident of Yardley, Pennsylvania, grew up in Northern Virginia and played collegiate golf at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. Apparently, a decent player at one time – Allen held three separate course records in his lifetime, including a career low round of 63. A former PGA Golf Professional, Allen eventually transitioned into the business side of golf, initially working as a property manager with the Billy Casper Golf organization. His further professional background includes serving as the Employment and Club Relations Director for the Middle Atlantic PGA of America, as well as serving as a Vice President with Gotham Golf Partners – where he managed multiple properties and orchestrated the acquisition of over $50 million in golf properties. Today, Allen is a member of the Colliers International’s Golf Brokerage & Advisory Services Group, and a recognized specialist in the consulting and management and turnaround of under-performing and distressed hospitality assets.

“Over the years I have been intrigued by just about every aspect of the golf business,” said DePuy. “Being involved with GolfTalk Live provides me with a platform for all of these interests.”

From its inception, GolfTalk Live was a 52-week, 100-percent interview-driven show, unique in the world of golf radio at that time. Stay primed for the course with online simulation and tips from a pro


(RELEASE) — While that bucket-list golf vacation is temporarily benched, golfers can still play the legendary Pebble Beach Golf Links via an online simulation and sharpen their skills with tips from a renowned golf pro.

To help golfers keep primed for their return to the course, Laird Small, director of the Pebble Beach Golf Academy at Pebble Beach Resorts, has shared some simple tips that can be done from the comfort of home. But before getting started, set the scene by tuning into Pebble Beach’s live cam that captures the crashing surf and spectacular mountain backdrop surrounding the 18th hole – the most famous finishing hole in golf.

Maintain rotational flexibility – The tension created in this exercise opens up the chest and can help add much needed rotation to your swing.
1.     Face the doorway to your bathroom.
2.     With your shoulders back, extend your right arm out and place your right hand flat against the door frame. It should be at shoulder height.
3.     Hold your hand in place and turn your upper body to the left. Your trail arm will stay behind you.

For the left-handed golfer:
1.     Face the doorway to your bathroom.
2.     With your shoulders back, extend your left arm out and place your left hand flat against the door frame. It should be at shoulder height.
3.     Hold your hand in place and turn your upper body to the right. Your trail arm will stay behind you.

Keep your head down – This exercise will train you to keep your body in position throughout your swing and keep your head down from back swing to follow-through.
1.     Get a hand towel from the bathroom and fold it three to five times.
2.     Stand facing a wall in your hotel room and get into golf posture. You should be at least one foot from the wall.
3.     Lean forward and place your forehead against the wall, cushioned by the towel.
4.     Cross your arms over your chest, with the fingertips of each hand touching the opposite shoulder.
5.     Proceed to make turns back and forth, starting with your left shoulder down and your right shoulder up.
6.     Continue for 30 seconds to one minute while keeping the towel in place.

Add width to your swing – A simple exercise like this will assist in arm extension and position you for the top of your back swing.
1.     Stand in the middle of the door frame to the bathroom.
2.     Take your golf posture
3.     Reach for the top of the door jamb

Of course, stretching is key, too. Here are a few ways to stay nimble on the road, according to Small:

Joint Caps
1.     Place your left arm straight across your chest, pointing to your right.
2.     With your right arm, reach underneath the left elbow and pull into your chest
3.     Hold for five seconds.
4.     Be sure to keep the left shoulder down, preventing it from shrugging up toward the left ear.
5.     Repeat on the right arm.

Shoulder Blades – In golf, all the forces are pulling away from you. It’s therefore important to strengthen your back so it can support the stress exerted by the rest of the body.
1.     Extend arms outward on each side, creating a letter “T” with the body.
2.     Get into your golf posture, keeping your arms extended outward.
3.     Position your hands with your palms down and your thumbs pointed forward.
4.     Pull your shoulder blades together and down, as if you were trying to put them in your back pockets. This is called “scapular retraction.”
5.     In this position, do 30 to 40 arm circles.
6.     Once completed, rotate your hands with your palms up and thumbs pointed behind you.
7.     Do another 30 to 40 arm circles.

Hips and Lower Back
1.     Sitting on the floor, extend your left leg straight out in front of you and cross your right foot over your left knee, placing it on the floor next to your knee cap.
2.     Place your left elbow between your right knee and your chest and place your right hand flat on the ground directly behind you.
3.     Twist the body to the right, using your left arm to push against your right knee. Ideally, your left shoulder will be pointed in the same direction as your left leg, which is extended in front of you.
4.     Hold the position for five to 10 seconds.
5.     Complete the same stretch using the opposite leg and arm.

TGA Keeps Kids Engaged in Golf During Coronavirus

TGA Premier Sports develops programming designed for at-home use for the entire family

V1 Sports Sees Rise in Remote Video Lessons Connecting V1 Pros with Homebound Golfers

V1 Pro Software and Mobile App - When students send pros swing videos through the V1 Golf App, they show up in the pro’s V1 Pro inbox. From there, the pro can create voice-over video lessons and deliver the final lessons directly back to the students. Students receive their completed lesson in their V1 Golf App account. GOLF Channel’s Steve Burkowski will host a Friday news update announcing the U.S. and International team members who will compete in the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup (July 3-5, Lahinch Golf Club in Ireland). The teams will consist of 12 men and 12 women each, comprised of the top amateurs in the world. Coaches from both teams will join Burkowski to announce their teams’ automatic qualifiers (six men/six women), as well as the remaining committee selections (three men/three women). Six players on the U.S. and International teams (three men/three women) each were announced on March 4 as first set of committee selections. Past Arnold Palmer Cup participants include Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Jennifer Kupcho, Jon Rahm and Maria Fassi.

LPGA Tour: Kia Classic (2018, 2019)

Thursday-Sunday, GOLF Channel will air encore third and final round telecasts of the LPGA Tour’s 2018 and 2019 Kia Classic. Third and final round coverage of the 2018 Kia Classic (won by Eun-Hee Ji) will air Thursday and Friday night in primetime respectively, while third and final round coverage of the 2019 edition of the event (won by Nasa Hataoka) will air at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday and Sunday.

PGA TOUR Champions: Rapiscan Systems Classic (2019)

Friday-Sunday, GOLF Channel will re-air all three rounds of the 2019 Rapiscan Systems Classic, won by Kevin Sutherland following a marathon seven-hole playoff with Scott Parel. The first round will air at 10 p.m. ET on Friday, with second and final round coverage airing Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
