Troon Congratulates Team Troon Ambassador Justin Thomas on Victory at Kapalua

(Scottsdale, Ariz.) – Troon, the leader in club management, development, and marketing, congratulates Team Troon ambassador Justin Thomas on his thrilling victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions played at Troon-managed Kapalua Golf’s Plantation Course on Maui. Thomas’ 12th victory on the PGA TOUR, and his second at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in the last four years (2017), was sealed with a birdie on the third playoff hole. In addition to Thomas, Team Troon members Patrick Cantlay finished fourth, Gary Woodland finished T7 and Matt Kuchar placed T14 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Troon, the world’s largest golf management company, announced the formation of Team Troon – a collection of some of the finest golf talent across the PGA TOUR, LPGA and European Tour – in February 2019. Tour players Justin Thomas, Gary Woodland, Patrick Cantlay, Matt Kuchar, Alex Noren, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Cheyenne Woods make up the star-studded Team Troon line-up and represent the Troon brand on their professional tours.

Thomas is the first Team Troon ambassador to win an event held at a Troon-managed golf facility. Troon-managed or affiliated facilities host 18 professional golf events across 9 professional tours around the world. Including high-level amateur events and qualifying tournaments, Troon-managed facilities host more than 30 elite events.

“Congratulations to Justin on his incredibly hard-fought victory on the newly refined Plantation Course at Kapalua,” said Tim Schantz, president and chief executive officer, Troon. “Watching the exciting drama unfold in primetime, at an incredible venue like Kapalua, was a great way to start the 2020 golf season. Hats off to Kapalua ownership for their commitment to reinvest in the property to ensure the course is both a great test for the world’s best golfers, while remaining atop the list of must-play courses for golfers near and far. Congratulations also to our talented Troon associates for their amazing work in pulling off the course refinement and tournament in just 10 months. General Manager Alex Nakajima, Director of Agronomy Andrew Rebman and our entire agronomy team deserve kudos as the course looked incredible.”

Kapalua’s Plantation Course reopened in late November 2019 following a 9-month, multi-million dollar enhancement project. Original Plantation Course architects Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw oversaw the refinement project along with Troon’s Design, Development and Agronomy team and Golf Channel personality Mark Rolfing. During the 9-month project all 107 acres of fairways, tees and rough were grassed with Celebration Bermuda grass, while all greens were grassed with TifEagle Bermuda grass. A capillary concrete liner system was installed in all 93 course bunkers, allowing the bunkers to better weather heavy rain events.
