FootJoy Celebrates Crazy Love for the Game of Golf at Bethpage Black

(RELEASE) — Would you sleep in your car overnight to play a major championship golf course?

Every night, many passionate golfers do just that for the chance to play the world renowned Bethpage Black Course on Long Island, New York, host of the 2019 PGA Championship. It is one of the most interesting and unique experiences in golf, and something FJ wanted to celebrate.

On the final night golfers could camp out to play the Black course before it closed for PGA Championship preparations, FJ celebrated these golf fanatics with the “Bethpage Blackout.”

Golfers in the parking lot were surprised with an invitation to take shelter from the pouring rain and to join FJ for a night they won’t soon forget. They were treated to overnight accommodations in luxurious “glamping” tents, catered dinner and breakfast, a head-to-toe fitting in exclusive “FJ Blackout” gear including FJ FURY shoes, DryJoys Tour LTS rain gear, ProDry socks and StaSof gloves, games and giveaways, preferred tee times in the morning on the Black course and the chance to mingle with two very special guests.

Joining FJ at the Bethpage Blackout were 2016 PGA Champion, Jimmy Walker, who brought along the Wanamaker Trophy, and six-time New York State Golf Instructor of the Year, and host, “A New Breed of Golf,” Michael Breed. As they mingled with the crowd, each shared their authentic, personal perspective on the golf course as well as some tips for playing well the next morning. “The passion that you see for the game of golf in this very unique environment is extraordinary,” said Walker. “Each golfer has a special story for why they’re here to play the Black course, and the lengths they’ve gone to make it happen.”

Breed added: “Loving golf is getting to a place at 10:30 in the morning, staying up all night, sleeping in your car, so that you can go play one of the great public venues in the United States. What a tremendous celebration to salute the avid golfer.“

Other partners in attendance providing entertainment and prize giveaways included Traeger Grills, Yeti, Lokai and Chippo.

“The crazy love these golfers have for the game of golf is shared by the associates at FootJoy, so we were excited to align the two in advance of what will surely be a very memorable PGA Championship,” said Ken LaRose, SVP, Brand Strategy and Consumer Experience.

To continue the celebration, FootJoy is releasing a Limited Edition FJ FLEX “Blackout” golf shoe, featuring the iconic warning sign that sits above the first hole at Bethpage Black. A limited number of these custom-designed shoes will be available on FootJoy.com beginning Tuesday, May 7, while supplies last.
