Bethpage Black served as the site of the 102nd U.S. Open Championship in 2002 and the Barclays in 2012/2016. The course will host the PGA Championship in 2019, and the Ryder Cup in 2024.
Our National Championship returned to Bethpage Black in 2009. The narrow fairways, high roughs, well placed bunkers and small greens help to make this an extremely difficult course.
In its July 2008 list of America's greatest golf courses, Golf Digest ranked Bethpage Black #26 overall, #6 in the state of New York, #6 of America's 50 toughest courses, and #5 in its list of America's greatest public golf courses. It is also the top-ranked course in the Golf Digest list that is operated by a governmental entity.
"aboutGOLF is always adding new Championship level courses to our library and to now have Bethpage Black available prior to the PGA Championship, is exciting for all our modern golfers. The Black course has an exceptional design and masterful layout, truly a driver's course. It has been a privilege to create the rendering for our members to enjoy year-round," says Randall Henry, Chief Golf Officer.
