College Football Kicking Great Roberto Aguayo Serves as an Intern for PGA REACH

Determination and interest in the game drives Aguayo to explore the business side of golf at PGA Headquarters, while he pursues an NFL Roster Spot

(PALM BEACH GARDENS, FLA.) — Roberto Aguayo, former college football kicking star and NFL draft pick, has joined PGA REACH, the 501(c)(3) charitable foundation of the PGA of America, as an Intern.

Aguayo is working at PGA Headquarters in support of the foundation, while gaining experience in the golf industry. He’s also exploring the many facets of golf as a sport and profession. Aguayo identified PGA REACH as an opportunity to build his skillset on the business side of the industry, while he trains in the West Palm Beach area, and once again prepares to compete for a roster position in the NFL.

“I have a passion for golf,” Aguayo said. “I’m interested to see what golf can bring to me and what I can bring to golf. I’m thrilled to use this internship to expand my knowledge of the golf industry. I want to take my sports background and interaction with teammates on the field, and then apply it to meeting and working with more diverse people in the workplace.”

He will receive a broad overview into how PGA REACH operates, and experience various opportunities within the golf industry. As an intern, Aguayo will support the mission and purpose of PGA REACH, and engage in programming related to the foundation’s three pillars: PGA Jr. League (youth), PGA HOPE—Helping Our Patriots Everywhere (military), and PGA WORKS (inclusion).

“We are elated to have Roberto join us to learn about the golf industry and how he can use his platform to impact lives through the game,” said PGA REACH Senior Director Ryan Cannon. “Roberto is a remarkable young man. His ambition, drive, and determination are impressive and will take him far in any path he chooses. We hope that this opportunity helps deepen his connection to golf now, throughout his professional football career and beyond.”

Aguayo attended Florida State University (FSU), where he earned multiple honors and achievements—including the 2013 Lou Groza Award as college football’s top kicker; being named a three-time All-American; and serving as a key member of FSU’s National Championship team in 2013. He ended his college career as one of the most accurate placekickers in NCAA history. In 2015, he graduated from FSU with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He is currently an NFL free agent.

Aguayo, who resides in Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife, Courtney, is open-mined about his future and the reality of having more than one profession in his growing career.

“I was asked recently what I’d like to do if football was done tomorrow, and it would be something on the business side of golf,” said Aguayo. “The PGA REACH internship will help me broaden my knowledge and be a part of a team in a different way.”
