Troon Saguaro Amateur Series Adds Women's Saguaro Amateur to 2019 Schedule

(Maricopa, Ariz.) – Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club and the tournament host committee are proud to announce a new event for the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series – the 2019 Women’s Saguaro Amateur. The new tournament is the first women’s golf event on Troon Saguaro Amateur Series and is scheduled to be played January 6 – 9, 2019 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. – just days after the conclusion of the men’s Saguaro Amateur Championship. The Women’s Saguaro Amateur is presented by Jofit and will be a 54-hole, stroke-play competition.

The 2019 Women’s Saguaro Amateur is open to competitors who have a handicap of 6.0 or lower and fall into one of the following categories:
- Top 250 in final 2017-18 Women’s Golfweek Collegiate Players Rankings (Division I)
- Top 250 in 2018-2019 Women’s Golfweek Collegiate Rankings or Golfstat Rankings (Division I)
- Top 1000 players in either World Amateur Golf Rankings or the Scratch Players Amateur Rankings
- All members-in-good-standing of women’s college golf teams in the Pac-12, Mountain West and Big 12 conferences in 2018-19
- 2018 champions of major women’s state amateur and mid-amateur championships
- Members-in-good-standing of women’s college teams in Arizona, Colorado and Wyoming (all levels) in 2018-19
- Participants in the women’s 2018 US Mid-Amateur and US Amateur Championships

“The addition of the Women’s Saguaro Amateur is an example of the commitment the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Troon Golf and the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series have to continuing to grow playing opportunities for all,” said Brady Wilson, general manager, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.  “We are all proud to be bringing another championship women’s event to a club that has a distant history of being a men’s-only facility and continuing the trend of breaking through barriers to advance women’s golf.”

Playing spots in the 2019 Women’s Saguaro Amateur are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The entry deadline is December 15, 2018 and the entry fee is $449. Women’s Saguaro Amateur results will be counted for World Amateur Golf Ranking points. Information and registration for the 2019 Women’s Saguaro Amateur event can be found at www.SaguaroAmateur.com.

2018 SIZZLER AMATEUR – June 17-20 at Troon North (Monument Course) in Scottsdale, Arizona
2018 GOBBLER AMATEUR – November 18-21 at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Arizona
2018 AGAVE AMATEUR –  December 18-21 at Shadow Hills Golf Club near Palm Desert, California
2019 SAGUARO AMATEUR (Troon Saguaro Amateur Series Championship) – January 1-4, 2019 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona
2019 WOMEN’S SAGUARO AMATEUR – January 6-9, 2019 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Arizona

“We are excited to announce the inaugural Women’s Saguaro Amateur at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes,” Troon Saguaro Amateur Series Chairman and University of Colorado Head Men's Golf Coach Roy Edwards.  “Southern Dunes will host the 6th Saguaro Amateur for the men this January and immediately following we are going to host the Women’s Saguaro Amateur.  Southern Dunes has long been a leader in high-level competitive golf and we expect the Women’s Saguaro to attract a premier national amateur field in a competition that will be first-class in every way up to the standards set by the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series and the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes staff.”
