Golf on TV - Six of Top-10 in World, Woods in Charlotte for Wells Fargo Championship

LPGA Outside of Dallas for Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The PGA TOUR is in North Carolina for the Wells Fargo Championship, as six of the top-10 in the world along with 14-time major champion Tiger Woods headline the field.

The LPGA is north of Dallas for the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic, as a new venue – Old American Golf Club – stages the event for the first time.

The PGA TOUR Champions also are in Texas for the Insperity Invitational, which for the seventh consecutive year will include the “Legends of Golf” competition during Saturday’s second round telecast, featuring Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam.

The European Tour will stage GolfSixes for the second straight year, with 16 teams of two pairing up for a series of six-hole matches on Saturday-Sunday.

Woods headlines player news conference on Wednesday at Noon ET: Tomorrow at Noon ET from the Wells Fargo Championship media center, Golf Channel will showcase press conference sessions with several players in the field. Those expected to speak with media during the news conference show include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. Woods, who is a past winner of the event (2007), returns this week to compete in Charlotte for the first time since 2012.

Harman defends: Brian Harman defeated Dustin Johnson and Pat Perez by one stroke at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, N.C., to earn his second career PGA TOUR win.

Headlining the field: Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Phil Mickelson, Kevin Kisner and Brian Harman.

Nomura defends: Haru Nomura utilized a birdie on the sixth playoff hole to defeat Cristie Kerr at Las Colinas Country Club to earn her third LPGA Tour victory.

Format: This is the second edition of GolfSixes, an unofficial two-day event featuring 16 two-person teams competing in six-hole matches. A new feature this year is the inclusion of specialty teams. The matches will use a greensome format, a modified alternate-shot in which both players hit a tee shot on each hole, choose one, and then alternate on each shot for the remainder of the hole. The 16 teams on Saturday will be separated into four groups of four and play six-hole matches in a round-robin format, with teams receiving three points for a win, one for a halve and zero for a loss. On Day two, the top-two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage with the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Denmark defends: The team of Thorbjorn Olesen and Lucas Bjerregaard (Denmark) defeated Scott Hend and Sam Brazel of Australia in the final.
