PGA Golf Club’s Ryder Course to Re-Open December Dec. 1 Following Complete Renovation

(PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.) – PGA Golf Club‘s acclaimed Ryder Course is set to re-open to the public Friday Dec. 1 following a complete renovation to enhance year-round playability and overall appeal.

All new drainage was installed, bunkers underwent a complete overhaul and Celebration Bermuda, a hybrid strain widely favored for its durability and quick recovery, was installed on all fairways. In addition to its impressive drought resistance and shade tolerance, the hearty grass presents a striking blue-green hue for great color contrasts.

“Our dedicated staff has accomplished an impressive transformation that cements PGA Golf Club as a top golf destination in Florida,” says Jimmy Terry, PGA Senior General Manager. “The stunning renovations are shining examples of our dedication to providing great course conditions day in and day out to our club and PGA members, as well as guests.”

Each hole is reframed with native and ornamental grasses, providing a new look and feel. Tees are Sea Isle Paspalum, a hybrid, while greens are TifEagle Bermuda, consistent with all the other putting surfaces on the property. Bunkers are newly renovated and refaced with Celebration, found on fairways and tee and green surrounds. New tees installed in the fairways now provide a short but fun golf course for the novice player.

The renovation is the final piece of a $10 million multi-year property-wide investment. Adding to the energized atmosphere at PGA Golf Club is the modernized, 20,000 square-foot clubhouse. Furthermore, the impressive Dye course re-opened last year following a re-grassing project, and the touted Wanamaker Course underwent similar enhancements in 2015.

The Wanamaker’s jump to No. 20 in Golfweek’s 2017 “Best: State-by-State Courses You Can Play” rankings – joining the No. 23 Dye Course -- makes PGA Golf Club one of only a handful of properties with two layouts on the respected list. Updates to the Ryder Course should allow it to follow suit.

PGA Golf Club members can tee it up on the iconic Ryder Course beginning Friday, Dec. 1. A media day is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13; media members interested in playing should contact Adriana Vizcaya at AVizcaya@pgahq.com or 772.467.1300 ext. 125.
