(PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.) – PGA Golf Club‘s acclaimed Ryder Course is set to re-open to the public Friday Dec. 1 following a complete renovation to enhance year-round playability and overall appeal.
All new drainage was installed, bunkers underwent a complete overhaul and Celebration Bermuda, a hybrid strain widely favored for its durability and quick recovery, was installed on all fairways. In addition to its impressive drought resistance and shade tolerance, the hearty grass presents a striking blue-green hue for great color contrasts.
“Our dedicated staff has accomplished an impressive transformation that cements PGA Golf Club as a top golf destination in Florida,” says Jimmy Terry, PGA Senior General Manager. “The stunning renovations are shining examples of our dedication to providing great course conditions day in and day out to our club and PGA members, as well as guests.”
Each hole is reframed with native and ornamental grasses, providing a new look and feel. Tees are Sea Isle Paspalum, a hybrid, while greens are TifEagle Bermuda, consistent with all the other putting surfaces on the property. Bunkers are newly renovated and refaced with Celebration, found on fairways and tee and green surrounds. New tees installed in the fairways now provide a short but fun golf course for the novice player.
The renovation is the final piece of a $10 million multi-year property-wide investment. Adding to the energized atmosphere at PGA Golf Club is the modernized, 20,000 square-foot clubhouse. Furthermore, the impressive Dye course re-opened last year following a re-grassing project, and the touted Wanamaker Course underwent similar enhancements in 2015.
The Wanamaker’s jump to No. 20 in Golfweek’s 2017 “Best: State-by-State Courses You Can Play” rankings – joining the No. 23 Dye Course -- makes PGA Golf Club one of only a handful of properties with two layouts on the respected list. Updates to the Ryder Course should allow it to follow suit.
PGA Golf Club members can tee it up on the iconic Ryder Course beginning Friday, Dec. 1. A media day is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13; media members interested in playing should contact Adriana Vizcaya at AVizcaya@pgahq.com or 772.467.1300 ext. 125.
For more information about PGA Golf Club or to book starting times, visit PGAVillage.com or call 772.467.1300.
Getting There: PGA Golf Club is less than a two-hour drive from Orlando and Miami – and under three hours from Tampa, Fort Myers and other Florida population centers. PGA Golf Club is conveniently located 50 minutes north of Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) off Interstate 95 in Port St. Lucie. PBI offers nearly 100 nonstop flights to more than 25 cities in the U.S. and Canada.
Known as the “Ultimate Golf Destination,” PGA Golf Club is home to three distinct golf courses at the facility. The entertaining layouts were designed by renowned architects Tom Fazio, Jim Fazio and Pete Dye.

Sea Pines Country Club Recognized as One of America’s Healthiest Clubs
(HILTON HEAD, S.C.) – Sea Pines Country Club (SPCC) – the lone private club within Sea Pines featuring golf, tennis, multiple pools and fitness – was awarded an 88 percent on America’s Healthiest Club’s Health Report, making it one of the country’s healthiest private clubs.
The rigorous Health Report is based on a comprehensive evaluation of seven club categories: strategy, membership, fitness, food and beverage, golf, tennis and human resources. SPCC scored over 90 percent in strategy, fitness, food and beverage, golf and tennis.
“Keeping our members healthy, happy and fit is a priority and an integral part of our lifestyle design approach,” says Robbie Ames, general manager and chief operating officer of Sea Pines Country Club. “Being recognized as an industry leader reinforces our commitment to playing an active role in the long-term health and well-being of our members.”
Ames is also a founding member of The Wellness Project that examines health and wellness as a driver of growth and stability at private clubs. Ames, the brother of PGA Tour winner Stephen Ames, developed a deep understanding of how fitness impacts everyday life while caddying for his brother for three and a half years.
Because of shifting demographics and new member priorities, premier private clubs have expanded member offerings to promote an active, vibrant and healthy lifestyle. Utilizing industry best practices, SPCC has installed health and wellness as a cornerstone of the club. This includes the upcoming expansion and renovation of the fitness center and upgraded member dining options to provide a variety of fresh and healthy menu items. The club also incorporates fresh vegetables from the on-site vegetable garden that was planted this fall.
“Sea Pines Country Club has embraced the national trends that show health and wellness as a driver of member growth, retention and experience,” says Rick Ladendorf, Founder and President of America’s Healthiest Clubs. “Its programs will enable members to live healthier lives and fully enjoy the club’s amenities.”
The club is currently undergoing a $2.7 million upgrade to numerous facilities. A $450,000 indoor and outdoor pool renovation project was completed in April. It entailed modernizing the existing saline indoor pool, the 24-meter outdoor pool, outdoor deck and building a brand-new children’s splash pool.
Membership is by invitation only. For more information, contact Karen Fleming at 843-671-2345 ext. 243 or kfleming@seapinescountryclub.com. Learn more about Sea Pines Country Club at www.seapinescountryclub.com.

Product Review: Antigua Apparel
Men's Digital and Women's Beyond |
While Antigua can be seen across many sports markets - the company holds licenses with major professional sports leagues; including the NFL, NBA, MLS, UFC, MLB, NHL and myriad colleges and universities - its roots are in the golf market.
We recently took several pieces of Antigua out for testing and were quite impressed.
Men's Voyage and Women's Travel |
I think back to when I first began playing golf. I doubt Desert Dry was even a thought in anyone’s imagination. Those heavy cotton shirts we all wore would become loaded down with sweat as the round progressed on a hot, summer day. The golf swing is difficult enough without having to fight your clothing!
Beyond the moisture-wicking technology, Antigua has constructed both shirts to flow with the golfer. Lightweight and soft, the material moves gently throughout the swing. While built for an athletic fit, there’s ample room in the armpits to not constrict or restrict.
The golf shirts are great, but unless you live in South Florida, Arizona or Southern California, there’s a chill in the air and you’d better layer up. Antigua offers a wide range of outerwear and we tested out two - The “Voyage” for men and “Travel” for women.
Both are from the company’s Performance-72 line. They are lightweight, but provide ample warmth.
The Voyage is a 1/4-zip pullover with open bottom. It won’t ride up on you as you swing. It also features a stand-up collar and, when fully zipped, does not choke the wearer. Why offer the option of zipping if a normal human can’t zip it? Thank you, Antigua.
The Travel is a full-zip, knit “motorcycle” jacket. This piece is as sleek and stylish as it is functional. Move over, “little black dress” and make room for Antigua’s Travel (or pair the two together when the evening air turns chilly).
These four pieces don’t even scratch the surface of Antigua’s offerings. Whether it’s tops, bottoms, outerwear or even headwear and luggage, the company has you covered. Check out antigua.com for everything a golfer needs to stay in fashion, while keeping up the high demand for playability.
New K-MOTION Software Update Pushes Boundaries of Golf Training, Instruction
(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) - K-MOTION Interactive – the pioneer of innovative human motion training for the golf, baseball, fitness, physical therapy industries and beyond – has released K-VEST 7.8, the latest software for its wearable athletic measurement and training solution, which accelerates a golf instructor’s ability to identify swing patterns and deliver the most effective training drills.
The new update is the first 3D measurement and training software that allows instructors to capture, compare and analyze every swing during a lesson. K-VEST 7.8’s advanced algorithms automatically display swing averages to help coaches identify the root cause of inefficient motion. Instructors can now develop training programs based on the entire swing profile rather than a single swing.
The company’s patented technology creates the complete end-to-end training solution, allowing instructors to seamlessly detect a student’s wasted movement, plan the precise drills to correct the movement and ensure the drills are done perfectly every time.
“K-VEST 7.8 supplies coaches and professionals with the most accurate motion data and analysis tools in the industry,” says K-MOTION CEO Michael Chu. “By giving them the tools to succeed, our coaches deliver superior instruction that results in accelerated and retained improvement for their students. Simply put, we have created the most effective training solution on the market.”
For golf coaches, K-VEST 7.8:
- Raises the bar on real-time measurement of the swing by allowing coaches to evaluate player averages rather than a single swing
- Creates deeper understanding of the swing by eliminating the problem of making generalizations about a player’s swing based on a single data set
- Makes it possible to take 3D measurement on the course to easily transfer skills from the lesson to the real world
According to Golf Digest, seven of the top-10 golf instructors in America, as well as Major League Baseball and National Hockey League teams, use K-MOTION products for better training. Fitness coaches and physical therapists are also brand ambassadors.
K-MOTION is the industry leader in wearable, motion-training technology that makes athletes better faster. Through patented real-time audio and visual cues, athletes can connect perception and reality and master perfect motion in seconds. K-MOTION creates a seamless connection between player and coach through its cloud-based improvement sequence of measure, assess, coach and train.

Doug Weaver Honored by Carolinas PGA
Longtime Director of Golf Instruction at Palmetto Dunes Resort Doug Weaver named 2017 “Palmer Maples Teacher of the Year” from the Carolinas Professional Golf Association
(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC) — Doug Weaver, longtime Director of Golf Instruction at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, was named 2017 “Palmer Maples Teacher of the Year” by the Carolinas Professional Golf Association (CPGA) for his outstanding service as a golf instructor. He will be formally honored on February 18, 2018 in Greensboro, NC.
Established in 1923, the Carolinas PGA Section of the Professional Golfers’ Association has grown to be the largest of the PGA’s 41 sections with almost 2,000 professional members. The CPGA embraces North and South Carolina, as well as a small portion of southern Virginia, with more than 800 golf facilities.
“It is a real honor to be awarded the CPGA’s 2017 Palmer Maples Teacher of the Year,” said Weaver, a former PGA Tour pro. “The thrill of my workplace is being with a student who experiences the exhilaration of improving their golf game and helping them overcome barriers to playing the game.”
Weaver has made numerous contributions to golf instruction within the Section for many years. He hosts private and group lessons, conducts weekly clinics, volunteers time to free lessons for people of all ages, hosts Mental Golf Workshops, instructs lessons for young children while using songs to help them remember how to play, assists with Special Olympics programming, regularly writes articles for newspapers and magazines, and serves as the Hilton Head High School golf team’s assistant coach.
A PGA Member since 1989, Weaver has instructed outstanding golfers like Luke Carpenter (Adams Tour Member), Evan Muscari (won West Virginia US Open Qualifying and college golfer at Concord College), and Freddy Reyes (a Drive, Chip, and Putt finalist at Augusta National).
Additionally, Weaver was a member of the PGA President’s Council from 2005-2010 and has received numerous awards and recognitions including the 2002 Growth of the Game Award from the PGA Foundation and induction into the Lowcountry Golf Hall of Fame earlier this year.
In 2016, his colleagues voted Weaver as Golf Digest magazine’s No. 2 Instructor in South Carolina and he was named the Hilton Head Island PGA chapter's “Teacher of the Year” — an honor Weaver also received in 2012.
The Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy grows golf with its daily offerings of private lessons, classes and multi-day schools.
“I love sharing golf with all people,” Weaver said. “My staff at Palmetto Dunes Golf Academy and I enjoy growing golf and partnering with Boys and Girls Club, Boys and Girls Scouts, Special Olympics, HHI Chamber of commerce activities, Rotary, the local high School teams and more. I’m privileged to work with and for Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, which commits to excellence in everything they do.”

Golf Points Index Introduces Innovative Scoring and Handicap System
(Toronto, Canada) — Golf Points Index (GPI) launched a new golf scoring and handicap system based on points earned on each hole in relation to par in order to keep score and track your progress
GPI was developed in order to provide golfers with a more equitable, engaging, entertaining, and fun way to keep score and track progress. GPI awards a 1/2 point for a double bogey, 1 point for a bogey, 3 points for a par, 5 points for a birdie, and 8 points for an eagle. All other results get a 0.
GPI founder and President Ron Zevy admits that the genesis for the system came because of frustration about the current stroke based scoring system. "How can a birdie only be worth one stroke less than a par when it is much much harder to achieve?" remarks Zevy.
While GPI is not the first points based scoring system, Stableford is widely used in the UK, and the PGA tour employs a modified Stableford System for one event, it is the first and only which incorporates the point totals into a working handicap index.
The GPI Handicap is the average nine hole point total over the last 180 holes played. It allows players of different levels to compete on an even playing field. A player with a GPI of 12, for example, will give an opponent with a GPI of 8 a 4 point lead in a nine hole match.
The free www.golfpointsindex.com website and mobile apps allow the golfer to enter their point totals and the system will calculate current GPI in addition to GPI for individual golf courses. A golfer can play as many or as few holes as they like and still enter a point score for their index.
In addition to being free, GPI does not require the golfer to belong to a golf club in order to register. GPI will be a boon to the millions of recreational golfers who do not carry a traditional handicap but would still like a way to benchmark and track their progress. While beneficial for golfers of all ages and levels, GPI is especially geared to junior golfers, mid to high handicappers and seniors.
The First Tee, the world's largest junior golf organization, has recognized its merits and the first wave of chapters have already signed on to pilot the system in 2018.
For more information about GPI, visit www.golfpointsindex.com or e-mail info@golfpointsindex.com.

Rickie Fowler is Ushering in a New Age of Golf Instruction
Rickie Fowler is teaching virtual reality golf lessons for cheap
(Los Angeles, CA) - PGA Tour pro Rickie Fowler has teamed up with Success Co. to launch its virtual-reality coaching platform. The 28-year-old will be the first ambassador of the site. Fowler already has three lessons available on the site and two bonus videos in 2D. Fowler will cover every aspect of the golf swing from hitting a tee shot to putting on the greens. The lessons are designed for golfers ages 12-70 to improve their game through simple step-by-step tips from this PGA Tour professional.
The most intriguing part is the lessons cost between $4.99-6.99 to download.
"The inspiration for Success Series was to bring major global sporting talent into people lives in the form of teaching/instruction and creating access to these world class athletes leveraging the immersive environment that virtual reality brings to the user," said Success Co. CEO Anthony Puntoriero in a statement. "The idea was really sparked around capitalizing on the VR technologies and the ability to scale content globally bringing Success Series into people lives and growing sports not only in global reach but through cutting edge technology."
Puntoriero serves as a CEO and Chairman of the Board of Success Co. and in this capacity, is responsible for strategic partnerships, business development, talent acquisition and overall business strategy. Puntoriero, a technology and advertising space innovator, is playing a key role in digital education and its exploration of Virtual Reality. He has a successful track record of growing companies and creating value.
At the age of 22, Puntoriero launched his first business in construction which he successfully sold in 2008. Following the sale, he developed an interest in sports, particularly sponsorship. Puntoriero spent time traveling with professional golfers on the PGA tour, during which he discovered that many of these players, ranked outside of the world’s top 50, were contending in tournaments and getting valuable global television coverage yet had minimal annual sponsorship, if any at all. Puntoriero launched Instant Sponsor, an advanced sponsorship procurement technology platform, as an effective solution to connect these players and companies of all sizes.
There was no question in Puntoriero's mind that Fowler would be the perfect athlete to sponsor as he started up this new business venture.
"Rickie was the only golfer we wanted to target for Success Series and that is because of who he is on and off the course," Puntoriero said. "Rickie's brand and character has defined the new era of golfer and he is the ideal ambassador to take golf into the homes of sports fans globally - His message is infectious and he has genuine passion for helping people get better at the game. He's an amazing role model and proof that hard work and dedication can take you to the top in whatever you choose in life."

(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.) – Keswick Hall & Golf Club – the acclaimed 600-acre luxury resort set in Virginia’s scenic Hunt Country – announces its Pete Dye-designed Full Cry at Keswick Golf Club has risen to No. 38 in Golfweek’s just-released “Best Resort Courses” list for 2018.
This move comes on the heels of Full Cry vaulting to No. 43 on the 2017 list. Golfweek’s coveted rankings annually showcase the finest resort courses in the U.S. The layout is also ranked No. 4 in both Golfweek’s and GOLF Magazine’s 2017 list of “Best Courses You Can Play” in Virginia. In 2015, Full Cry was named one of Golf Digest’s “Best New Courses” in the U.S.
“We are honored that Full Cry continues to move up so dramatically in the rankings of the major golf publications,” says Robert and Molly Hardie, owners of Keswick Hall & Golf Club. “Our goal to create one of the premier golf courses in the U.S. has been extremely successful and provides our members and guests a truly special place to play the game they love.”
The world-class resort just announced a major renovation of its Forbes Five-Star 48-room hotel will begin in early 2018. Tripp Davis and Associates Prepares for Soft Opening of San Antonio’s Historic Oak Hills Country Club
(Norman, OK) — The historic Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio is preparing later this week for a soft opening of the Tripp Davis renovation/restoration project which has been in the works for the past two years. The official re-opening will take place in Spring 2018.
Originally designed by the legendary A.W. Tillinghast in 1922, Oak Hills has hosted 34 PGA TOUR and USGA championships over the years, including the 1960 and 1961 Texas Opens won by Arnold Palmer.
The work by Tripp Davis and Associates included building a new practice facility, upgrades to the irrigation system, drainage enhancements around the site, rebuilding the subtle redesign of the greens, bunkers and tees, grassing the greens with a new Bermuda – G12 (a new variety used by Quail Hollow in preparation for the 2017 U.S. PGA Championship), and taking the course from being all Bermuda tees, fairways and roughs to almost all areas being Zoysia – L1F on the tees, Zeon in the fairways and around the bunkers, and Cutlass and Jamur in the roughs.
“We were honored to be selected to renovate and restore this storied golf course,” said Tripp Davis. “Everything we did at Oak Hills was to better reflect Tillinghast’s design tendencies and to make this a great golfing experience for the members. I’d also like to add that Superintendent Riley Maxey has done a great job, both in playing a key role during construction and in establishing over 3,000,000 square feet of new turf. Landscapes Unlimited and Shaper Steve Page were great partners in the process."
“Tripp Davis was the best golf course architect for Oak Hills Country Club,” said Kris Glaubitz, the club’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer. “He provided our club with a master plan of what he felt would address our immediate and long term goals of returning the course to tournament quality conditions. From that plan, he worked diligently to use his expertise of A.W. Tillinghast’s work and his design tendencies to enhance our course features that already existed and even added a few ideas of his own that have been received well by the Members of the Club. Tripp understood the Club’s governance structure and worked cohesively with the committees, Board of Governors and the staff. We look forward to continually working with Tripp in the future.”

Tiger Woods to Play New Bridgestone TOUR B XS Golf Ball at Hero World Challenge
(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf – innovator of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – announces brand ambassador Tiger Woods will compete using the company’s new TOUR B XS golf ball during the 2017 Hero World Challenge, taking place November 30 through December 3 at the Albany resort on New Providence island in The Bahamas.
Woods had previously played the Tour B330-S and made the switch following rigorous testing, during which it was determined the XS provided optimal distance, control and consistency. These gains are the result of a softer urethane cover, enhanced aerodynamics and improved 330 Dual Dimple design.
“I am more confident in the performance of the TOUR B XS than any other ball I have ever played,” says Tiger Woods. “It is incredibly long off the tee, while offering excellent feel and spin around the green. The consistency it provides gives me complete confidence that I can hit any shot the situation calls for.”
“Tiger is easily one of the most discerning players in the world and only makes equipment changes when he sees a true performance benefit,” says Angel Ilagan, Bridgestone Golf President and CEO. “Just like Tiger went through the fitting process to find the ball that best suits his game, we strongly encourage amateurs to get fit and identify the Bridgestone model that will help them optimize their own performance.”
The TOUR B Series includes four models – X, XS, RX and RXS (each $44.99) – and represents Bridgestone’s most technologically advanced golf balls to date. Using data from more than 3 million in-person and online ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources, Bridgestone identified the needs of specific player types and drew on more than 1,000 golf ball patents to determine which of its proprietary technologies would most benefit each.
Each model features the proven characteristics that have made Bridgestone Golf among the most respected names in the industry. The benefits of these features include:
Accuracy – Gradational core provides optimal energy transfer to create low side-spin and high ball velocity for incredible distance and accuracy gains
Consistency – Seamless cover design utilizes injection molding technology to stabilize ball flight on all shots
Distance – Aerodynamically superior dimple profiles provide different player types with vastly enhanced length and control
Feel – SlipRes cover technology increases friction by creating more stability between the ball and club for enhanced control with irons and wedges

United States Air Force Installs Power Tee at Chibana Golf Course, Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan
Other military bases using Power Tee include Fort Sam Houston Golf Club in Texas and Bay Breeze Golf Course at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi
(Ponte Vedra, Fla.) – Golf-Tech, the world leader in golf range automation, has installed Power Tee at the United States Air Force Base at the Chibana Golf Course at the Kadena Air Force Base on the island of Okinawa, Japan. Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX and the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS have been enjoying using Power Tee for over a year now and many others are considering adding it to their facilities. Power Tee makes practicing golf more productive and enjoyable by allowing golfers to hit more quality shots per practice session in a controlled environment, thus building confidence in the mechanics of their game.
Endorsed by professionals like the 2018 Ryder Cup Captain, Jim Furyk, and elite golf instructor, Mitchell Spearman, Power Tee is credited with helping golfers get better faster because they practice with no interruptions such as re-gripping the club and the stance realignment that usually accompany the manual teeing up process. Golfers simply wait for the ball to automatically appear and then swing to develop a rhythm that increases muscle memory.
According to Martin Wyeth, Golf-Tech founder, CEO and creator of Power Tee, there are so many benefits to the system. “It’s great for clubs and practice facilities to provide all golfers a means to perfect a swing in a consistent, fun and focused practice session,” he said. “It’s perfect for junior golfers who have a more difficult time concentrating and it’s ideal for our Wounded Warriors who may have restricted mobility as they can hit more balls.”
Wyeth also noted more than 50 percent of the commercial golf ranges in the United Kingdom are currently automated with Power Tee. “Now we are eager for every golfer in USA to learn about Power Tee and how it can improve his or her game. And are extremely proud to be working with the United States Armed Forces supplying our servicemen here and overseas with something they will not only benefit from but enjoy.” he added.
Colin Baesler, PGA professional and golf course manager at the Kadena Golf Complex noted customers are really enjoying the addition of Power Tee to the driving range. “Our entire membership, regardless of skill or fitness level is benefitting from the advantages Power Tee provides because it offers something for everyone,” said Baesler. “It’s especially beneficial for junior golfers since they can get through a lot more instruction in a lesson period when they don’t have to bother with teeing up golf balls. We are incredibly happy to have this available to our customers.”

Jack Nicklaus, Nicklaus Design to Oversee 'Reno' of Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee
Work to Commence in June 2018 with Fall 2019 Re-Opening
(Greensboro, Georgia) – Great Waters, the highly-acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee, will undergo a total renovation starting in June 2018, and will involve personal input from Mr. Nicklaus and oversight from his award-winning Nicklaus Design Team. The Great Waters renovation will be led by Design Associate Chad Goetz, who has been with Nicklaus Design for 18 years and is one of the few designers in the world who has earned membership into both the American Society of Golf Course Architects and European Institute of Golf Course Architects.
Perennially ranked among America’s Greatest 100 Public Courses by Golf Digest, Great Waters—which celebrates its 27th anniversary this year—will receive a total turf replacement, new greens, bunkers, tees, water features, and irrigation systems, as well as cart path replacement. Drainage and other elements of the course’s infrastructure, plus an assessment of the trees, and the practice facility are included in this comprehensive reinvention of the community’s premier golf course. The Nicklaus layout has stood the test of time and will remain loyal to the original design.
Work is to begin in June 2018 with an expected re-opening in Fall 2019. This restoration is the latest in an ever-widening list of improvements made to the golf courses, clubhouses and other facilities since MetLife’s investment in Reynolds Lake Oconee in 2012.
“Our desire is to keep the course true to Mr. Nicklaus’s original vision while modernizing the course where appropriate - and prudent - and adding length where available,” said Rabun Neal, president of Reynolds Lake Oconee.
Great Waters is a dramatic layout that offers some of the most breathtaking golf scenery in the Southeast. The parkland-style front nine plays over rolling hills and through thick forest, with water in play on six holes, most notably the par-4 fifth, where a creek crisscrosses the fairway and cuts in front of the green; a stone wall and the Nicklaus Bridge add to the hole’s splendor. The gorgeous ninth is the first of the lake holes, the water edging in along the right side of the green.
The back nine is a completely different experience, as the final eight holes are on Lake Oconee. Playing on the lake-encircled peninsula, the back-nine holes include the short par-4 11th, where the green juts into the lake, causing left-side hole locations to make the flagstick appear to be floating. The par-3 14th is one of the most photographed holes in the Southeast, its green sitting along the Lake Oconee shoreline.
“The first time I went to Reynolds, I knew we had the potential to have a great golf course,” says Nicklaus. “I think we found it then, and now more than a quarter of a century later, a wonderful golf experience remains but is in need of a little updating. It’s one of the really great pieces of property with which I have ever had the experience to work.”
Already recognized among the “25 Best Golf Communities in North America” by GOLF Magazine, Reynolds Lake Oconee is not only fine-tuning one of its world-class golf courses, but is enhancing its long-established reputation as an outstanding place to live.
Reynolds Lake Oconee has 117 holes of golf, all designed by legendary golf architects, including Nicklaus, Rees Jones and Tom Fazio. In addition to golf, the Reynolds community offers a wide array of recreational opportunities along the more than 350 miles of Lake Oconee shoreline.
Vacation guests at Reynolds can choose from individual cottages within the private gates, while enjoying a variety of amenities. Accommodations also are available at The Ritz-Carlton. A variety of vacation packages are available.

Product Review TecTecTec VPRO500 Rangefinder
If you’re serious about improving your golf game, you need a rangefinder. That said, not every budget can easily absorb the cost. Enter TecTecTec - maker of the No. 1 budget-friendly rangefinder on the market.
Why spend $300 to $400 on a rangefinder when TecTecTec’s VPRO500 comes in at less than $150 and boasts all the bells and whistles?
In a nutshell, the VPR500 measures up 540 yards with a +/- 1 yard accuracy. Shoot anything - flags, trees, or hazards - and know your distance instantly.
One complaint I get with people unsure about using a rangefinder is target accuracy. They don’t know if they’re shooting the flag or a tree behind the green. That 10-20 yards can mean the difference in up to two clubs! The VPRO500 takes the guess work out with its clear 6x magnification.
As someone who is on the verge of needing glasses for better vision, I was pleased to learn about TecTecTec’s diopter adjustment functionality, which delivers a clear view whether you’re nearsighted or farsighted. If you've "tuned in" binoculars, you know the function.
What I appreciated the most - beyond the accuracy - was the ease of use. The hardest thing for me, literally, was inserting the battery. It’s a little embarrassing to share that, but it makes my point ... The VPRO500 is easy to use, right out of the box - no tutorials necessary.
There are two buttons on the device - power and mode. Turn it on and choose one-of-three modes:
- Pinseeker mode lets you accurately measure overlapping targets, perfect for measuring the distance to the pin and wooded areas;
- First Target Priority mode displays the distance of the closest subject, helpful when measuring the distance to the flag on a green with woods in the background; and
- Scan mode is useful when checking the distance of various hazards.
The VPRO500 is lightweight, compact and has a waterproof body. No need to keep it in the bag if there’s a chance of rain.
The VPRO500 comes equipped with a protective case, free CR2 battery to get you started, a wrist strap (if you choose to attach), microfiber cleaning cloth and a quick-start guide for easy setup.
Check out the VPRO500 and another five models at us.tectectec.com. The company also sells a hunting rangefinder for the outdoorsman on your holiday list.

PGA Value Guide Launches Holiday Trade-In Promotion
(Raleigh, NC) – The PGA Value Guide – the national standard for golf club values – launched its second annual Holiday Trade-In Promotion for golfers to receive up to 30% extra value when they trade-in their golf clubs at valueguide.pga.com.
Golfers using the PGA Value Guide can select to receive either cash or PGA credit when trading in their clubs. This PGA credit can go towards the purchase of new golf equipment at one of over 5,000 local golf shops or online retailers, such as GlobalGolf.com, all of whom employ PGA Professionals.
“The PGA Value Guide has long been the most trusted resource to help millions of golfers receive fair value for their golf clubs,” says Doug Smith, Vice President of Business Development at Global Value Commerce, owner of the PGA Value Guide. “The Holiday Trade-In Promotion brings consumers even closer to that new set of clubs by putting some cash in their pockets for the holiday season.”
Golfers use the PGA Value Guide to research current trade-in and resale values for thousands of models and brand name golf clubs. Consumers can view current trade-in promotions, product information and find local PGA Professional-staffed golf shops where they can get properly fitted into the latest golf club technology.
A recent consumer survey shows a record high 75% of golfers are interested in trading in their golf clubs. The timing couldn’t be better as today’s high performance drivers, fairway woods, irons and putters generally realize a good return on investment in-trade. The PGA Value Guide has been recognized as the national standard for golf club values since its 2004 inception.
PGA Professionals who use the PGA Value Guide benefit from national trade-in promotions, periodic trade-in bonuses and free exposure for their courses to millions of purchase-minded golfers.

Exploring Great Golf in Branson, Missouri
I recently made a trip to Branson, Mo., to experience some of the great golf this growing destination has to offer. In addition to the courses we played - Thousand Hills, Buffalo Ridge Springs, Top of the Rock, Branson Hills, Mountain Top and Pointe Royale - the area will welcome a new Coore-Crenshaw course in 2018 and two new Tiger Woods designs in the years to follow. Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player will be in great (designer) company.
Much of this growth can be credited to Johnny Morris, founder of Bass Pro Shops and the Big Cedar Lodge dynasty.
For those of you who only know the area as a country music hub and museum hot spot, it's time to Explore Branson and take in everything this Ozark Mountains oasis has to offer.
Check out the article at GolfWRX.

KemperSports Partners with Tobacco Road Golf Club
(NORTHBROOK, Ill.) – KemperSports has been selected by the owners of Tobacco Road Golf Club to provide consulting services for the highly-acclaimed golf club. Widely considered one of the most ambitious golf course designs in the last 20 years, Tobacco Road will lean on KemperSports’ more than 35 years of industry expertise to further enhance the public golf experience.
“In today’s competitive golf market, we felt that KemperSports was the right partner to help propel Tobacco Road into the future,” said Tobacco Road co-owner Mark Stewart. “The company’s institutional knowledge, deep relationships, national buying power and best in class programs will help to ensure the long-term peak performance at our course.”
Located just over 20 miles from The Village of Pinehurst in Sanford, North Carolina, Tobacco Road was built on land that was previously used for tobacco farming until sand mining and excavation shaped the landscape into dynamic land forms. The “Golden Age Architecture” layout was designed by golf course architect Mike Strantz – whose innovative course designs include Caledonia Golf and Fish Club as well as the renovation of the Shore Course at Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Because of the unique site and architectural quality, Tobacco Road is widely recognized by the golf cognoscenti as one of the best golf courses in the Pinehurst area.
In partnering with KemperSports, Tobacco Road will benefit from the company’s proven sales and marketing experience as well as gain access to KemperClub – an initiative that is designed to drive brand awareness and engage customers with special promotions and events at KemperSports golf courses.
KemperSports will work with Tobacco Road to integrate its proven best practices and programming, including True Service – the company’s proprietary customer service training program, which focuses on ensuring consistent delivery of genuine, helpful and friendly service to members and guests.
“Tobacco Road Golf Club is one of the most iconic golf course designs in the country, and we are privileged to help make this facility the best that it can be,” said KemperSports CEO Steve Skinner. “We look forward to working with ownership to align goals and provide insight that will deliver positive results for the club.”

PXG Deploys Limited Edition Bat Attack Darkness Putter
(Black) Darkness Friday 2017
(Scottsdale, Arizona) – PXG dubs Black Friday, “Darkness Friday,” with the release of its limited edition Bat Attack Darkness putter.
The limited edition Bat Attack Darkness features a milled skull insignia and the number 26, representing the 26th Marine Corps Regiment that PXG founder Bob Parsons served with during the Vietnam War. Each club is uniquely numbered according to the order it was milled and comes with an exclusive Darkness grip by Super Stroke and a signature PXG Darkness head cover.
“The Bat Attack offers an incredibly clean and efficient design,” Parsons shared. “And the new, limited edition finish is undeniably sexy.”
Part of the PXG milled insert line of putters, Bat Attack is a modified mallet-style design with a face-balanced hang angle. The putter uses a double-bend shaft that creates a half-shaft of offset and weighted alignment wings that provide a subtle visual aid to improve consistency.
The Bat Attack is played on tour by two-time major champion and 12-time LPGA Tour winner Lydia Ko. “I like how the Bat Attack sets-up, the style, and the feel,” Ko stated. “It gives me a lot of confidence when I’m standing over a shot.”
Only 1,200 Bat Attack Darkness putters are being made. To learn more or to purchase the limited edition design, visit www.pxg.com.

Product Review: Legendary Headwear with CLOUD-FIT Technology
If you’ve ever stayed at a luxurious hotel and had the pleasure of sleeping with a technologically advanced pillow, you know the joys of their cooling features. Legendary Headwear has now brought that comfort to their already-impressive hat collection.
Introducing CLOUD-FIT technology. The interior sweatband in this collection boasts memory foam that has been infused with temperature-regulating gel. The C200 mesh-back cap has instantly become one of my go-to hats on - and off - the golf course.
“Why this hat?” one may ask. Well, since getting serious about protecting myself from the damaging affects of the sun, I’ve given up the romanticized idea of bronze glow on my face and always don a cap. Problem is, I often overheat and spend half my time removing the hat and wiping sweat from my brow. Problem solved. The C200 with CLOUD-FIT tech is as functional as it is fashionable.
If you prefer fitted caps over “trucker caps,” Legendary Headwear also offers the Perfecto-C and Cloud Elite hats with CLOUD-FIT technology. Both are stretch fit (available in S/M and L/XL) and offer “half pipe” CLOUD-FIT. The Perfecto-C is constructed of cotton, while the Cloud Elite is made from Diamond Pro performance fabric, designed to wick away moisture.
Check out the entire catalog at legendaryheadwear.com.
Circling back to protection from the sun ... I recommend pairing the hat with a generous dose of sunscreen (minimum of SPF 30) and sunglasses for UV protection. Stay safe and look great for years to come.
