Rio Secco Golf Club Continues Transformation Led By Legendary Golf Course Architect, Rees Jones

(LAS VEGAS) – Rio Secco Golf Club continues its major redesign led by the course’s original architect, hall of fame golf course architect Rees Jones, known as the U.S. Open Doctor. The project is slated to be completed in September 2017 with an official re-opening in October 2017.

The course closed on May 23, 2017 for a redesign focused on updating the course features and practice facilities while increasing playability and sustainability. Re-contoured greens lessen the severity of slopes while five new forward tees lessen the yardage on certain holes, making the course more enjoyable for all golfers, regardless of skill level. Jones is fully engaged in every aspect of the Rio Secco redesign, having prepared a roster of nationally-known courses during the span of his career.

“It’s awe inspiring to watch Rees and his team go to work and return the magic to Rio Secco Golf Club,” says Eric Dutt, vice president of golf operations. “He is the best in the business and has been very involved in the entire process. Rio Secco has always maintained a high level of service and playing conditions. This renovation will further elevate the player experience.”

Renovation highlights include the following:
· All 18 greens stripped, cored out and re-grassed
· Five greens stripped, cored out, re-contoured and re-grassed
· Greenside bunker renovations feature new sand in all bunkers and some bunkers reshaped and reduced in size
· Practice tees expanded with natural turf to approximately 25,000 square feet
· New practice putting green constructed adjacent to practice tee
· Main chipping green redesign and the addition of a new practice bunker
· Butch Harmon School practice green redesign
· New forward tee construction on select holes

Rio Secco Golf Club rests at the foothills of the Black Mountain Range in Las Vegas, 13 miles southeast of the Las Vegas Strip. The course is a favorite among visiting and local golfers due to its quality conditions, unparalleled service and striking desert topography.

During the closure, golfers will have the opportunity to play the Top 100 Cascata, also a Rees Jones design and a sister course to Rio Secco. Cascata is located just a few miles from Rio Secco.
