William McGirt Captures First Career PGA Tour Title at The Memorial

(HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) – Trusting the tour-validated performance of his Srixon and Cleveland Golf equipment, William McGirt prevailed in a sudden-death playoff over fellow staffer Jon Curran to win the Memorial Tournament Presented by Nationwide on the PGA TOUR over the weekend at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Srixon and Cleveland Golf congratulate both McGirt and Curran for their best career TOUR finishes.

McGirt finished regulation tied with Curran at 15-under par. After both players made par on the first playoff hole, the par-4 18th, they played the hole again. McGirt seized the title with a par that topped Curran’s bogey.

McGirt’s first career PGA TOUR victory is a testament to his perseverance. The 36-year-old native of Lumberton, North Carolina, turned professional in 2004 and had not won an event on any circuit since 2007. Now in his sixth season on the PGA TOUR, he captured the $1.53 million winner’s check in his 165th start.

“I've always been one to kind of keep my head down and do what I do. My wife can tell you that, when I was on mini tours, I would go out and practice hours and hours and hours. My goal was to get to the PGA TOUR, and I was willing to do whatever it took to get here,” said McGirt. “Once I got a taste of what it was like to have a little bit of success, then I just wanted to win.”

With this breakthrough victory, McGirt has made some big moves:
· Jumps to 10th (from 37th) in the FedEx Cup standings;
· Catapults to 44th (from 102nd) in the Official World Golf Rankings; and,
· Moves to 15th (from 50th) in the United States Ryder Cup team points standings.
Curran, who was making his first appearance at the Memorial, vaulted to 36th in the FedEx Cup standings with his runner-up finish and earned $918,000. He also finished second in a playoff at the 2015 Puerto Rico Open.
