Michigan’s Meadowbrook Country Club to Mark Centennial by Raising $100k for Detroit Area Charities

(Northville, MI) — Meadowbrook Country Club, one of suburban Detroit’s historic private golf clubs, decided that the best way to commemorate its 100th anniversary this year is to help others in the community. To that end, the club has embarked on a member campaign to raise $100,000 that will be distributed to four area charities. Meadowbrook hopes to set an example of giving back to local causes by encouraging other clubs across the country that will be celebrating centennials to consider similar initiatives.

“The PGA TOUR, LPGA and Champions Tour are recognized as tremendous fund-raising engines for a myriad of charities and causes,” said Meadowbrook Country Club general manager Joseph D. Marini.  “In the spirit of golf’s wonderful philanthropic reputation, our board and members decided to make a difference and help four area Detroit charities. No one is being pressured to give and everyone is taking great pride in this initiative as a positive way to celebrate our 100th anniversary. The goal is to award four $25,000 checks to our charities at a party in August. A donation booth has been set up inside the clubhouse for contributions.”

The selected charities include: CATCH, a children’s charity founded by the late Detroit Tigers manager Sparky Anderson; Bridgepointe, whose mission is to bring together kids from Detroit and the suburbs to provide enrichment and educational opportunities; the Angela Hospice; and Main Street League, a volunteer organization of women that provides time, talent and financial resources for those in need. Meadowbrook Country Club is well-known in the community for its generosity.  The club has an ongoing partnership with Bridgepointe, providing resources and volunteers for many of the non-profit’s programs. A yearly highlight for the Detroit school- children is a swim day hosted at Meadowbrook’s pool led by the swim team members and staff.

The day includes pool games, swimming lessons, field games and lunch.

The centennial campaign is in addition to the numerous ongoing philanthropic programs in place at Meadowbrook.  The Evans Foundation Caddie Scholarship is supported by more than 95% member participation and 10 current club caddies are on full tuition scholarships.
