Island Resort & Casino’s Sweetgrass Golf Club Rated among 'Best Courses in U.S.'

(HARRIS, Mich.) – Sweetgrass Golf Club – an amenity of Island Resort & Casino located in the pristine Upper Peninsula – was rated one of the nation’s finest in Golfweek’s “2016 America’s Best Courses You Can Play” by state, an annual compendium recently published and accessible via Golfweek.com.

Sweetgrass and Island Resort & Casino are owned and operated by the Hannahville Indian Community, a band of the Potawatomi. The course was designed by golf architect Paul Albanese of Albanese & Lutzke.

Hundreds of Golfweek raters examine overall strength of routing, feature shaping, natural setting, greens, variety and memorability of holes, conditioning and maintenance, landscape management and other criteria to determine the nation’s best courses.

“Michigan is home to some of America’s best courses, so it’s gratifying for Sweetgrass to receive this critical distinction from Golfweek raters,” says Island Resort and Casino General Manager Tony Mancilla.

Sweetgrass has previously received best-of honors from GOLF and Golf Digest magazines; this latest superlative follows recent news that the resort and tribe are building a second course, also designed by Albanese, planned to debut in 2017.

Furthermore, Island Resort and Casino is unveiling the new Drift Spa this spring, the latest amenity offered by the award-winning venue.

“Island Resort & Casino will soon be home of two of the finest courses in North America, and with our new spa, casino, restaurants and other amenities, we look forward to welcoming new and repeat guests,” says Mancilla.
