Nike Lunar Bandon 3: All-Conditions Golf

(RELEASE) - As July’s major championship on the Old Course proved, with its rain delays and water-filled bunkers, the elements can derail a golf game, even in the middle of summer. With this reality in mind and in anticipation of the winter season’s even wetter weather, Nike Golf releases the Nike Lunar Bandon 3.

“In the sport of golf, conditions can drastically change over the course of four hours,” affirms James Arizumi, Nike Golf’s Design Director of Footwear. “The main goal with the Lunar Bandon 3 was to create a versatile and comfortable shoe that could adapt to all conditions the athlete might experience in an entire round. When the weather clears up and the sun comes out, the Lunar Bandon 3 can be unzipped to let the foot breathe as well as provide a greater range of motion through the swing.”

Nike Golf’s Nike Lunar Bandon 3 places a weatherproof upper atop six spikes on the outsole for traction for support on slippery surfaces. A seam-sealed shroud is designed to lock out moisture, whereas a premium weatherproof toe cap, made of engineered synthetic leather, pays homage to the sport’s aesthetic heritage and provides an extra layer of drag protection. Once unzipped, a hidden camo pattern is unveiled on the inside of the shroud.

Staying dry isn’t the only comfort offered by the Lunar Bandon 3. The shoe also features full-length lightweight Lunarlon for cushioning and a comfortable padded lining on the interior to support the ankle.

“This shoe was designed for the toughest and most dedicated golfers who play in unpredictable conditions.  With that in mind, I wanted to focus on the interior of the shoe and design it to be insanely comfortable even in the harshest weather, like sweatpants for your feet on a cold and rainy day,” Arizumi confirms. “Simply put, the Bandon 3 was designed so that the exterior upper takes care of the weather while the interior is built to take care of your feet.”

For traction and contact with the ground, the Lunar Bandon 3 utilizes the outsole from the Nike Lunar Command golf shoe. Six spikes provide the traction needed in slippery conditions while a forefoot TPU plate provides stability during the swing.
