Freedom Golf Association Golf Outing & Derby for the Disabled set for Sept. 14 at Cog Hill

(Burr Ridge, IL) - Freedom Golf Association's Annual Golf Outing and Derby for the Disabled will take place September 14 at Cog Hill Golf & CC in Lemont, Illinois. The event is the major fund-raiser of the year for FGA, which exists to bring joy and a sense of freedom to the special needs community through their inclusion in the game of golf.

There are still spots available in the tournament for individuals or teams. Each foursome will feature one special needs or disabled veteran in each group.

Even if you can't play in the golf tournament, you can still be a part of the fun, and support FGA's mission at the same time. You can "enter a horse" in the fund-raising race by choosing a name for your horse, and registering it on the FGA Derby site (www.fgagolfouting.com). Then call on your network of family, friends and co-workers to donate to your team and support FGA. A leaderboard on the site will track the success of each horse in the race.

If you don't want to register your own horse, you can simply donate to the "horse" of your choice. All donated funds from the Derby go directly to FGA's mission of assisting the Special Needs community.

The FGA Golf Outing and Derby is a fun and enjoyable method of raising funds for a very critical mission," said Freedom Golf's Director of Operations Andy Mears. "Learning to play golf can be a valuable, therapeutic experience for the millions of physically challenged and special needs individuals in this country. The success stories are countless, starting with our founder E.Q. Sylvester."

FGA was founded in July, 2012 by Edmund Q. Sylvester, who became a triple amputee in 2011. Shortly after completing rehab, he attempted to hit golf balls at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club driving range. When long-time friend and Cog Hill owner, Frank Jemsek, asked what he was trying to do, E.Q. replied that he was "trying to hit golf balls without any feet and only one hand!" Asked if he was getting any help, E.Q. replied that he wasn't, and the first step towards forming FGA was taken.

The golf outing has a 1 p.m. shotgun start, and will be followed by dinner and entertainment. Individual entry fee is $160 and includes golf, dinner, entertainment and prizes.
