The Golf Club at Lansdowne to Host VSGA Mid-Amateur Tournament

38th Annual Event to Showcase Some of the Region’s Top Golfers

(Scottsdale, Az.) – As one of the premier golf courses in the mid-Atlantic region, the Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones II layouts at The Golf Club at Lansdowne will be the host site for one of Virginia’s most prestigious amateur golf events.

The Virginia State Golf Association Mid-Amateur tournament featuring 120 players, 25 years and older will be played at Lansdowne on September 12-14. Each year, the VSGA considers premier locations in the state to hold their high profile events and based on The Golf Club at Lansdowne’s reputation, course condition and resort facilities made it a natural choice and an ideal venue to hold the Mid-Am.

“We are thrilled to be hosting an event of this caliber at The Golf Club at Lansdowne. All of the staff here take a great deal of pride in knowing that we were chosen based on our past performances in tournament action and we strive to improve upon that reputation,” said Craig Forgash, director of golf at The Golf Club at Lansdowne.

First round action will be played on the Norman course, a Par 72, 7,300 yard layout that stretches along breathtaking scenery of the Potomac River and Goose Creek. Second round will tee off on the Robert Trent Jones II course. Opened in 1991, the Par 72, 7,063 yard golf course features woodlands, natural stone outcroppings and old rock walls that are centuries old. After the 36-hole cut to the top 45 scores and ties, the final field will be back on the nine-year old Norman tract to determine this year’s VSGA Mid-Amateur champion.

“It’s not often that a golf club and resort are able to hold a tournament of this stature and we are indeed fortunate to be hosting the Mid-Amateur this year,” said Laddie Hunter, golf sales and marketing director for The Golf Club at Lansdowne. “We are continually looking for high caliber events to showcase our wonderful golf courses and magnificent resort and look forward to a marvelous event this week.”

Later this month, The Golf Club at Lansdowne will be hosting the 2nd annual Hewlett Packard “Heart and Sole” golf tournament benefitting the American Heart Association. 256 players are expected to participate on September 25 with tournament proceeds going directly to the AHA. Last year, $85,000 was raised and tournament officials are expecting to be able to donate nearly $125,000 in charitable dollars from this year’s event.
