Eisenhower Golf Course Retains ‘Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary’ Status

(CROWNSVILLE, MD) – Eisenhower Golf Course – managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG), owner-operator of more than 150 golf courses, country clubs and resorts in 28 states – has retained designation as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by Audubon International.

Since earning the status in 2009 for high standards in protecting the environment and preserving the natural heritage of golf, Eisenhower continues to reduce waste and promote efficient operations.  In following approved Audubon International steps, the course also lowers maintenance costs, including insurance premiums, energy, water, fertilizer, equipment wear and labor.

“The Chesapeake Bay is in our backyard, so maintaining ecologically-sound practices is especially important,” says Joe Tubiolo, Certified Golf Course Superintendent at Eisenhower.  “Through hard work, we have effectively decreased our environmental footprint while providing golfers with top-tier, healthier playing experiences.”

“Billy Casper Golf courses are committed to protect natural habitats recognized by Audubon International,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG.  “The re-designation of Eisenhower is testament to the dedication of Joe Tubiolo, Damian Cosby and their team.”

Eisenhower is one of 18 courses in Maryland and 907 courses worldwide to be named an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.  Courses undergo a re-certification process every two years that requires a high degree of environmental quality in six key areas: environmental planning, wildlife and habitat management, outreach and education, chemical use reduction and safety, water conservation, and water quality management.
