Miami Launches Mayor’s SNAG Youth Golf Challenge First-Ever Citywide SNAG Tournament

(Tahlequah, Oklahoma) – A citywide initiative to get more kids involved  in sports, especially golf, is taking place in Miami-Dade County thanks to Mayor Carlos Gimenez.  The inaugural Mayor’s SNAG Youth Golf Challenge kicked off yesterday at three city run parks with hundred of boys and girls taking part in regional SNAG golf tournaments.  The winners will advance to the final championship at Tamiami Park on August 11.

SNAG Golf , a global leader in player development, has built a premier learning system which is recognized by industry global leaders as the superior method to teach golf fundamentals in a fun and easy way.  Through its partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association, and with golfing great Jack Nicklaus and the new Jack Nicklaus Learning Leagues, SNAG is popping up in parks all over the country and providing kids with their first swing at the game of golf.

“We salute Miami Mayor Gimenez for spearheading a Youth Sports Challenge and for including golf in the mix,” said SNAG CEO, Terry Anton.  “The Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation Department runs one of the largest junior golf programs in Florida and SNAG equipment and programming is at every event.  The SNAG system contains age appropriate equipment and programming to effectively teach the game of golf to people of all ages and ability levels.  The kids love it and so do their parents.”

In Miami, kids under the age of 14 have completed the 6-hole regional SNAG competition at Gwen Cherry Park, Tamiami Park and Goulds Park.  The winners in the 6-9 age group and 10-14 age group will now advance to the finals at Tamiami Park on August 11.

SNAG, a long-time supporter of the South Florida PGA Section, is hoping to continue to grow the game of golf in and around Miami-Dade and with the support of city officials and golf professionals who believe in getting kids started early at golf,
