El Macero CC Taps David Sutherland as Club Ambassador

Former PGA TOUR Pro to Offer Instruction and Monthly Complimentary Group Clinics

(Scottsdale, Az.) – The golf experience at El Macero Country Club was greatly enhanced recently with the addition of former PGA TOUR golf professional David Sutherland as its new Club Ambassador.

Sutherland, who played on the TOUR for 17 years will offer golf instruction to Club members and also share his experience with El Macero’s professional staff on golf instruction philosophies and best practice techniques. Sutherland will also offer monthly complimentary group clinics, participate in some of EMCC golf events, offer tips on the range and practice facilities and play rounds with EMCC members on a part-time basis.

“I was extremely interested in getting back into golf as a player and an instructor and El Macero reached out to me and made such an earnest effort to include me in the club,” said Sutherland. “I’ll be partnering with the golf staff in numerous activities including clinics and junior camps. It’ a wonderful opportunity and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be associated with an outstanding club like El Macero.”

Sutherland, who is also the Head Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach at Sacramento State University played in over 200 events on the PGA TOUR with eight Top Ten finishes. He placed second at The Greater Milwaukee Open in 1997, 3rd place at the 2004 Southern Open and won in Salt Lake City in 2000 on the Web.com Tour when he was in the middle of rehabilitation after undergoing shoulder surgery.

“David will be a tremendous asset to El Macero Country Club. Not only will he be able to impart his vast knowledge of the game as a former pro golfer on the PGA TOUR, but his short game is exceptional and with our new facility opening up in the Fall, the timing is perfect to introduce David to our staff and members,” said David Knox, general manager at El Macero Country Club. “Golf is our core passion and we want the total golf experience at El Macero Country Club to be second to none in our region and we feel we will accomplish that goal.”

The $250,000 Aggie Short Game Training Center is a state-of-the-art facility and is a partnership between UC Davis Athletics, El Macero Country Club and Troon Golf. Funded by alumni, families and friends of the UC Davis golf program, construction on the facility began in late April and will open up in the coming months. Once completed, the training complex will feature two putting greens with chipping, pitching and bunker areas that will incorporate every type of short game shot. A wedge range with multiple targets at varying distances is also part of the project.

“The short game facility is a marvelous addition to the Club and its partnership with UC Davis should be seen as a model that can be created between clubs and universities,” added Sutherland.

El Macero Country Club is managed by Troon Privé, the private club division of Troon. Members at Troon Privé-managed Clubs enjoy reciprocal play at more than 30 private clubs around the world, as well as preferred rates at Troon Golf-managed daily fee and resort facilities. The Troon Privé portfolio includes such private clubs of distinction as BallenIsles in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Fieldstone in Greenville, Delaware; Silver Creek Valley in San Jose, California; St. James Plantation in Southport, North Carolina; Pronghorn in Bend, Oregon; Ocean Club in Paradise Island, Bahamas; Settlers Run in Cranbourne South, Victoria, Australia and Bearwood Lakes in London, England.
