Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course Clubhouse Nears Completion

Golf Legend Nancy Lopez to Participate in Inauguration Events and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

(Laredo, TX) — The new clubhouse at the Max A. Mandel Municipal Golf Course is nearing completion and the City of Laredo, together with its partners Foresight Golf, the Mandel Family, Landscapes Unlimited and Robert Trent Jones II, are planning a special celebration and golf event on August 28th to officially unveil the splendid new building that overlooks the Rio Grande. Hall of Fame golfer Nancy Lopez will spend the day at The MAX as a special guest and participate in the tournament that commemorates the completion of this fine facility.

The event is slated to begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m., followed by a putting clinic on the 18th green with Nancy Lopez and local junior golfers, and then a charity benefit tournament at 11 a.m. for a full day of golf events August 28.

The 9,000 square-foot hacienda style clubhouse was designed by Metaform Studio Architects of Laredo.  Headed by the team of Ricardo Solis and Eduardo Quiroga, the building is situated on the banks of the Rio Grande and it affords spectacular views of several holes.  The clubhouse includes a golf pro shop, full service bar, Las Islitas, (a full service restaurant) and a second level banquet facility with a terrace and balcony that boasts gorgeous views of the course and the famed Rio Grande. The interior design firm is Laredo’s William Moritz Luft, one of the developers involved in restoring historic buildings in downtown Laredo, as well.  The entire construction project, course and clubhouse, was awarded to Landscapes Unlimited.  The clubhouse build out was then under the charge of ICN Construction Company as the local contractor on the job, with Mario Novoa as the project manager on this specific phase of the entire project.

“This is the next big thing with The MAX.  We are planning a memorable event with Nancy Lopez to dedicate our new clubhouse,” said Horacio De Leon, Assistant City Manager.  “A reception, a ribbon cutting and a golf tournament will mark the final chapter of all construction and we will be a full-service facility moving forward.  The golf clubhouse will be a perfect venue for not only servicing our golf clientele, but also for hosting special events, dinners and parties.”
