Nike Athletes are Prepared to Conquer the Elements at The Open Championship

Innovative designs from the 2013 Fall Collection will be debuted on the links at Muirfield

(BEAVERTON, Ore) – With consistently unpredictable weather, Nike Golf athletes will sport looks from the Fall 2013 Collection to combat every element they are faced with at The Open Championship. Every Nike athlete in the field will compete in new designs from head to toe that incorporate key technologies for every weather condition.

“We make sure our athletes have the base layers, Dri-FIT polos, cover-ups and outerwear so they are prepared for a round that could see four different seasons over 18 holes,” said Merritt Richardson, Vice President of Global Golf Apparel and Footwear for Nike Golf. “With our breathable, lightweight fabrics, layering is key without adding weight or bulk.  Our athletes will be armed with the essentials so they don’t have to think about their apparel during their quest for a Major Championship trophy.”

The Nike Athletes will be geared up with new, innovative outerwear at Muirfield. They will be highlighting the Nike Hyperadapt Storm-FIT jacket, which combines both mobility and waterproof protection.  The only performance jacket of its kind, the Nike Hyperadapt Storm-FIT features a sweater-like stretch and an impenetrable outer layer – both elements work together without sacrificing performance.

Twelve Nike Athletes will compete at the 2013 Open Championship: Scott Brown, Oliver Fisher, Russell Henley, Scott Jamieson, Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari, Thorbjorn Olesen, Carl Pettersson, Charl Schwartzel, Kyle Stanley, Nick Watney and Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods
Woods will rely on the proven innovations from Nike Golf’s Fall 2013 Tiger Woods Collection. This collection utilizes the most innovative technologies to drive performance. Throughout the tournament, Woods will wear the TW Ultra Polo in White ($95), the TW Saturated Color Polo in Light Armory Blue ($95), the TW Trajectory Polo in Black ($100), and the TW Stripe Polo in Hyper Red ($90). These polos are extremely lightweight and utilize a laser-perforated collar for increased ventilation to keep the athlete cool while also reducing overall weight. All four of these styles utilize the iconic posture performance chassis which has a kimono style back design to allow Woods an increased range of motion throughout his swing. Woods will finish his look with the new Nike TW’14 footwear.

Rory McIlroy
McIlroy will sport looks from the Nike Fall 2013 Tour Performance collection, featuring the latest innovations in lightweight, breathable performance fabrications. He will kick off the week in the Vent Tech Polo in White ($75) with pops of Gamma Green. On Friday, McIlroy’s outfit goes dark with a pop of color with the Fashion Bold Stripe Polo in Black ($70) and a ½ Zip Banded Tech Cover-up in Orange ($85) if the round brings cool weather. For the weekend, McIlroy will wear the Fashion Print Polo in Black ($70) on Saturday and the Light Weight Tech Polo in Game Royal ($65) for his final round. He will stay protected with the new Nike Hyperadapt Storm-FIT jacket if wet weather presents itself at Muirfield. McIlroy will complete his look with the Nike Lunar Control footwear.

Charl Schwartzel
As he hunts for his second major championship victory, Schwartzel will compete in classic, refined looks from the Fall 2013 Tour Premium Collection on Thursday through Saturday. He will wear the Nike Premium Precision Polo in Summit White ($85) on Thursday and the Nike Premium Precision Polo in Black ($85) on Friday.
