An 'Incredibly Sweet' Victory for Nike Athlete Paul Casey

Casey clinches victory at the European Tour’s Irish Open and young Dylan Frittelli gains first victory as a Nike athlete

(BEAVERTON, Ore.) - Nike athlete Paul Casey returned to the winner’s circle with his first victory in over two years at the Irish Open on the European Tour. When asked what this win means to him, he replied with just two words - “incredibly sweet.”

This win marks a comeback victory for Casey after enduring challenges as a result of a right shoulder injury sustained in a snowboarding accident that sidelined him at the start of 2012.  His Irish Open victory is his first since 2011 and the 12th of his European Tour career.

The Englishman sealed his title by holing a monster 50-foot eagle putt on the final hole with his new Nike Method 006 prototype putter to shoot an impressive round of 67 in difficult conditions.

According to Casey, his win came as a result of his putting, coupled with his ball striking. “The key has been putting,” said Casey.  “When I make putts I am going to shoot good rounds because the ball striking is there."

Casey arrived at the Carton House with a new Nike Method 006 prototype putter in his bag. He switched to the new Nike prototype putter because he liked the shape of it, which is very similar to the Method 006, but with softer and more rounded edges.  The Nike Method franchise features Nike’s polymetal groove technology, generating a faster forward roll at impact for increased accuracy and less skid.

Also notable was his jacket. In blustery conditions, Casey stayed protected with Nike’s new Hyperadapt Storm-FIT jacket.  This iconic-designed jacket combines flexibility and waterproof protection thanks to a sweater-like stretch and an impenetrable outer layer.  Casey was influential in the early development of this jacket, working closely with designers by providing his insights while testing the new innovation.

A head-to-toe Nike athlete, Casey has a full bag of Nike clubs, including the new VR_S Covert 3-wood. Assisting him in the windy conditions was his Nike 20XI ball, featuring more RZN technology.  On the body, he wore Nike apparel from its Tour Performance Collection and Nike Lunar Control footwear.

And there was more Swoosh success in Europe. In Austria on the Challenge Tour, another Nike athlete has a new trophy to put on the mantle. Twenty-three-year-old Dylan Frittelli captured his first Challenge Tour victory at the Karnten Golf Open.  Frittelli also credits his putting as a key to his maiden victory.  For his win, he used the Nike Method 004 putter in addition to his full bag of Nike equipment.  Like Casey, he also highlighted Nike apparel from the Tour Performance Collection and the Nike Lunar Control footwear.
