Nike Golf has taken Newton's law of inertia - Every body perseveres in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight forward except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by forces impressed - to a new level with its VR_S Covert fairway woods. The innovative cavity-back design places more mass at the perimeter of the head for a higher Moment of Inertia (MOI).
This is a good time to mention the second benefit ... added accuracy. More times than not, an amateur is going to miss the center of the face, especially with fairway woods. Heel or toe, it seemingly doesn’t matter with the VR_S Covert fairway woods - the ball wants to stay on line.
This is not to suggest the clubs won’t allow a more advanced player to work the ball. Quite the contrary, actually. More than other fairway woods we’ve tested, the VR_S Covert allowed us to curve the ball consistently.
Hard to believe, but Nike Golf has managed to combine forgiveness with function, which adds up to more enjoyment and lower scores.
Results aside, perhaps the club’s greatest feature was its feel. Too many fairway woods miss on weight. Too heavy leads to chunky shots, while too light tends to create thinned hits. Dare we use the word “perfect” in describing Nike Golf’s VR_S Covert?
Aesthetically speaking, you don’t know you’re playing a cavity-back club while addressing the ball. The only unique appearance at address is the sharp, red paint job. If another company can ask golfers to accept white, who’s to complain about an aggressive red?
American Golfer Recommendation: If you’re in the market for fairway woods that combine distance and accuracy with workability, do not make a purchase until you take Nike Golf’s VR_S Covert for a test drive.
