American Golfer Awards Twitter Prize
Pro-Ams 4 Patriots has been drawn as the winner of American Golfer’s Twitter prize - a free dozen golf balls. As announced on the social media outlet upon joining, once American Golfer reached the 100-follower milestone, golf balls would be given away to one lucky fan.
“We were extremely excited about joining Twitter and anxiously watched as our followers grew from one to the ‘magic number,’” editor Bob Bruce said. “When I heard Pro-Ams 4 Patriots was the winner, I could not have been more happy.”
Pro-Ams 4 Patriots is a not-for-profit organization that was thought up by National Guard Soldier Kristopher Johnson, who is also a Wounded Warrior. The purpose of this organization is to afford the opportunity for Wounded Warriors, Active Duty Soldiers, and National Guard soldiers from the Army, Marines, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in a PGA, LPGA, Champions Tour or Web.Com Pro-Am. This activity helps the soldiers and gives the community a better understanding for the military.
Pro-Ams 4 Patriots is seeking tournament sponsors. Participating tournaments would provide:
* Participation in the Draw Party for participant and guest
* Pro-Am spot
* Two Weekly Badges that include admission to the tournament grounds for the entire week, Monday-Sunday
* One VIP parking pass for Wednesday
* Two invitations to the awards reception following play
“This opportunity will play a great role in the recovery of any participant playing,” Johnson said. “Pro-Ams 4 Patriots also will be working on trying to secure accommodations for the soldiers and one guest from Tuesday to Sunday during the tournaments for these service members. We are trying to secure four spots, one for each representing branch of the military - Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy.”
There are certain requirements that participants must adhere to in order to participate. They must have a USGA Handicap Index of 19.0 or better, which Johnson has found is a requirement for most Pro-Ams. Second, the participant must be actively enrolled into Wounded Warriors Program Inc. If the soldier is not enrolled he/she must be on Active Duty or the National Guard with a current Common Access Card (CAC) ID card. The organization will ensure these requirements are met once it has sponsors for the spots.
“We are trying to build a great relationship with the PGA, LPGA, Champions and Web.Com Tours in order to ensure that this opportunity is afforded each year so we can help create this opportunity for any soldier that is interested,” Johnson said.
