Guide Published for Yadkin Valley Golf & Wine Getaways
(DOBSON, N.C.) - A new guide for planning golf and wine getaways in North Carolina's Yadkin Valley is available.
The comprehensive 24-page guide provides an overview of Yadkin Valley's unique packages combining golf, winery visits and lodging. The complimentary planner also covers a variety of things to see and do in North Carolina's wine country.
Yadkin Valley Golf & Wine Getaways, created last year by local tourism officials, attracted a lot of attention by pairing traditional golf packages with wine tastings at local vineyards. This new guide aims to capitalize on that momentum as the packages enter their second season.
"We realized people who play golf typically enjoy wine and vice versa, so this program seemed like a logical next step for us," said Tammy Johnson of the Surry County TDA. "Couples especially embraced the concept and we hope this new guide will expand upon that."
Profiled in the guide are the three championship golf courses anchoring the packages: Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin, Cross Creek Country Club in Mount Airy, and Olde Beau Golf and Country Club in Roaring Gap.
Complete details regarding lodging options are also included. The options range from standard hotel rooms and suites to course-side golf villas to posh new rental cabins. There's even a cozy bed-and-breakfast inn located in the heart of wine country.
On the wine side, Shelton Vineyards in Dobson headlines a quartet of participating wineries. Shelton features the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina. Grassy Creek Vineyards in Elkin is another great option, as are Old North State Winery and Round Peak Vineyards, both in Mount Airy.
Other handy items in the guide include: restaurant listings; estimated drive times from major Southeastern cities; average seasonal temperatures; and an overview of the Mayberry attractions available in Andy Griffith's hometown of Mount Airy.
