Patrick Reed Earns Two Playing Opportunities in One Day

Former Augusta State All-American Patrick Reed, has been awarded a sponsor exemption into the Frys.com Open, according to Tournament Director Jeff Sanchez.

Patrick Reed
Reed led Augusta State to NCAA Championship titles in 2010 and 2011, becoming the first university to repeat in 25 years.

In 2012, Reed has successfully qualified for six PGA TOUR tournaments in Monday competitions where typically, four spots are available and approximately 75 players compete.

In Las Vegas, he shot 65 on Monday, and then won a playoff among five players for the final berth in the field. Later that day he received a call from the Frys.com tournament offering an exemption, so he earned an opportunity to play in two events on the same day.

Reed has won $157,490 on the PGA TOUR this year as a non-member in nine tournaments. He played in the Frys.com Open last year, scoring 73-70-72, earning $9,450 in official money. Due to seventy-eight or more players making the thirty-six hole cut, a second cut was held after the third round.

Also entering the field this week is former PGA TOUR tournament winners Stuart Appleby, Stephen Ames, Jason Bohn, Ben Crane, D.A. Points, Heath Slocum, Johnathan Vegas, Gary Woodland, Charles Howell, Robert Allenby, Andres Romero, Chad Campbell, Ryuji Imada, Tim Herron, Billy Mayfair and Rod Pampling.

Sanchez expects the final two sponsor exemptions to be awarded on Friday afternoon following the close of entries at 2 p.m. Pacific.

Information is available on www.frysopengolf.com. The Frys.com Open will be played the week of Oct. 8-14 at CordeValle Golf Club.
