The Links at Royal Isabela Hosts El Pastillo Golf Classic to Preserve Local Environment

(Isabela, Puerto Rico) - Usually it's the land that supports a golf course. This time, the golf course is helping support the land.

On Sept. 22, The Links at Royal Isabela - the highly acclaimed golf course in Isabela, Puerto Rico - will host the first annual El Pastillo Golf Classic. All monies raised will go right back into the ground, benefitting the local ecosystem. El Nuevo Día, Puerto Rico's preeminent media company (www.endi.com), is presenting sponsor. El Nuevo Dia is distributed daily throughout Puerto Rico and other parts of the United States.

Proceeds from the event will fund El Pastillo Conservation Trust, which was established by Stanley and Charlie Pasarell, natives of Puerto Rico and founders of Royal Isabela, in cooperation with Puerto Rico's Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales (DRNA). The Trust is dedicated to preserving 115 acres of El Pastillo Beach and its surrounding cliffs.

The Pasarells, in association with golf course architect David Pfaff, designed the Golf Links at Royal Isabela, which opened in 2011. It plays along the top of those same cliffs, 300 feet above the Atlantic Ocean.

"Royal Isabela is very lucky and proud to inhabit this spectacularly beautiful piece of earth," says Stanley Pasarell, managing partner of Royal Isabela. "If we are going to protect this magnificent landscape with the cliffs, dunes, wetlands, caves, and native plant and wildlife, we are dedicated to being its stewards, as well. It is extremely important to my brother and myself that we treat this land properly, for now and for the future enjoyment of all."

The Trust established four initiatives regarding the property, which is located near the northwest corner of Puerto Rico, approximately 90 minutes from San Juan. Those initiatives are the land's protection, conservation, and restoration, along with education. The Pasarells also created the Trust to increase the community's awareness and involvement in insuring that the land will be enjoyed for generations to come.

The Golf Classic will be a four-person team scramble on Sept. 22, with a limited field of 48 players. There will be other events held on property throughout the weekend, including receptions, dinners, and an awards ceremony for participants and guests.

There also are other sponsorship opportunities whereby participating sponsors will receive local and international media exposure in addition to being featured on tournament signage and in all collateral material. Sponsors will also be invited to play in the event.

This is a unique opportunity to play one of the world's great new golf courses while helping to preserve a vital part of Puerto Rico's natural habitat. For more information, contact Royal Isabela at 787/609-5888 or toll free 855/609-5888.
