NEGCOA Named Quechee Club 2023 Course of the Year
Quechee, Vt. Four-season Lifestyle Community Earns Regional Award for Exceptional Quality and Contributions to Golf
(Hartford, Vt.) – Quechee Club was recently named New England Golf Course Owners Association (NEGCOA) 2023 Course of the Year. Announced at NEGCOA’s annual meeting and conference in December, this longstanding award recognizes four key areas of golf course operations: the exceptional quality of the course, the exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to the local community and to the game of golf.
As the first course in Vermont to receive this recognition, Quechee Club was also one of four finalists to be considered for the National Jemsek Course of the Year awarded by the National Golf Course Owners Association, joining the ranks of fellow awardees including The Straits Course at Whistling Straits in Sheboygan, Wis. This announcement follows Quechee Club’s recent designation as a Distinguished Club by BoardRoom magazine.Incoming NEGCOA president, Dave Frem commented, “The Quechee Club deservedly won the NEGCOA’s Course of the Year Award. The overall quality of its golf and club experience is exceptional, and it is a fantastic partner in the community, both in fostering a welcoming environment for all and in support of local charitable endeavors. Yet, it doesn’t rest on its laurels. With a priority on planning for the future and creating grow-the-game initiatives for youths and adults, it is well-positioned to be a successful club for many years to come.”
Quechee Club is home to two championship 18-hole courses, consistently ranked by Golf Week and Golf Digest as “Top 200 Residential Courses in the U.S.” and “The Best Golf Courses in Vermont,” respectively. Golf operations are led by TJ Anthoine, PGA, executive director of golf and recreation sports; and the course is maintained by a team led by Ken Lallier, CGCS, property director.
With record-breaking increases in golf course utilization and rounds played this year, the course conditions and facilities continue to remain a top priority for the Club. A project totaling $3.1 million, the shared golf course and ski hill irrigation system replacement project is anticipated to be completed next year. In addition, this past fall the Club embarked on its largest project in history; this multi-year campus-wide renovation project will include new storage buildings for golf and ski operations, the addition of electric carts, as well as affordable housing options for employees in the form of dormitory-style rooms.
“Quechee Club is a very special place to live and play golf,” said Brian Kelley, CCM, PGA, general manager and chief operating officer of the Club. “And the people behind the Club are really the heartbeat of this campus—our team of associates, our Board of Trustees, Committees and more than 1,400 member residents and their families; they are the common thread weaved throughout our Club’s most recent successes.”
Interest in golf has grown exponentially at Quechee Club, especially among younger demographics. The Club’s Junior Golf School has increased from 350 registered students in 2016 to more than 1000 in 2022, while the PGA Junior Team for players 13 and younger has grown 900 percent over the past five years.
Each year, the Club opens the courses to Vermont Golf Association and New England PGA tournaments and hosts the annual Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) Classic Golf Tournament, which has contributed to raising millions of dollars for the organization over its existence.

Puerto Rico Tourism, Golf Niche Thriving; Island to Host Latin America Amateur Championship Next Month
United States Golf Association, R&A, and Augusta National Combine to Drive the Latin America Amateur Championship to be Held on the Island, Jan. 12-15, 2023
(SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO) – Puerto Rico tourism is setting records in many key visitor categories and the invigoration and momentum is being replicated by many of its niches, not the least of which is golf.
New records in visitation, visitor spending, and tourism jobs have been achieved making 2022 one of the best years in island history. Likewise, golf has achieved several firsts, including being the first non-mainland venue to host a United States Golf Association (USGA) championship – the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball last April – and Puerto Rico will debut as the host site of the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC), Jan.12-15, 2023 at Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande.
The LAAC is backed by the USGA, R&A (Europe’s governing golf body), and Augusta National, home of the iconic Masters Tournament. The winner of the LAAC earns a berth into the 2023 Masters and the 2023 Open Championship in the United Kingdom. These are two of the game’s most hallowed competitive events.
“Tourism continues to lead the economic resurgence of Puerto Rico, and golf is an important microcosm, as these industry-leading organizations and events demonstrate,” said Brad Dean, CEO, Discover Puerto Rico, the island’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO).
Additionally, the PGA TOUR annually conducts the Puerto Rico Open in the island, meaning that virtually each of the top golf organizations have deemed that the island holds first-class qualities that are up to the standards of their discerning brands.
The LAAC will be broadcast on an ESPN Network channel two days during the tournament. This will showcase Puerto Rico golf, the island, and several of its players to the world. Puerto Ricans scheduled to complete in the LAAC include Jeronimo Esteve, Diego Saavedra, Max Alverio, Kelvin Hernandez, Robert Calvesbert, and Roberto Nieves. Nieves nearly won the 2022 LAAC and hopes to build on that momentum next month during the 2023 tournament.
Golf in general and Puerto Rico specifically began prospering during the pandemic, stemming from the inherent safeness and ideal social distancing found in the game and on the Island. It has flourished ever since, ushering a new boom era for the game.
Sixteen of Puerto Rico’s 18 golf courses are open to the public. The other two allow play by guests staying at their resort. Golfweek rates several of the Island’s courses among the best in the Caribbean, Mexico, Costa Rica and the Atlantic Islands.
Island courses range from luxury resort to municipal, spread throughout Puerto Rico with several clustered near historic San Juan. Oceanside views, coconut trees, and mountain and rainforest vistas frame their settings. Price points, terrain, layout style, and related amenities are varied and complementary.
Traveling to the Island is convenient with many choices as it is the air hub of the Caribbean. Further traveler friendliness is found in Puerto Rico’s bilingual culture, U.S. currency, and no passport required for American citizens.
For more information on the Island, travel guidelines, golf courses, resorts and hotels, and other destination attractions, visit DiscoverPuertoRico.com.

Zero Friction Announces Return to the PGA Merchandise Show
New Location on Show Floor (Booth 2261) Includes a Fairway
(OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL) – Zero Friction, LLC announces it return to the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, FL. The maker of high-quality, technologically advanced products will showcase it golf products in a new spot – booth number 2261 — which will include an indoor fairway. The annual show will be held at the Orange County Convention Center from January 24 – 27, 2023.
“We are coming in big this year,” said John Iacono, founder and President of Zero Friction. “We moved locations and have expanded our space so buyers can test our products. We think the new booth layout and indoor fairway is going to be a hit with attendees. We are excited to see it all come together.”
“Many know Zero Friction for our colorful line of gloves, balls and tees, but we also have a line of golf bags which offer both style and convenience on the course,” said Iacono.
The most popular ZF golf bag is the Wheel Pro Push Cart, a three-in-one, multi-functional push or pull golf cart bag, which was introduced earlier this year. It has received rave reviews from many in the industry including golf writer Jason Bruno.
“John Iacono, owner of Zero Friction, and his team continue developing ‘outside the box’ products to take your golf experience to the next level,” said Jason Bruno of LinksNation.com. “What impressed us the most was how quickly you could transition from one phase to another – literally 30 seconds to go from carry bag to cart bag.”

Edison Golf Company Extends Promotion of $40 off per Wedge Through the Remainder of 2022
(ROCKPORT, TX) — Edison Golf Company, maker of the revolutionary Edison Forged Wedges, has extended its special promotion of $40 off per wedge through midnight Saturday, December 31, 2022.
“We’ve had such a fantastic response to our holiday promotion that we’ve decided to extend it though the end of the year,” said Terry Koehler, Edison founder and Director of Innovation. “Whether you're trying Edison Forged Wedges for the first time or filling in your set . . . or even getting a back-up set (a great idea for practice!), there's never been a better time to upgrade your wedge game.”
“Did you know less than 15% of golfers – regardless of skill level – say that their wedge play is a strength of their game? And almost 40% say it is the absolute weakest part of their games,” added Koehler.
“That’s because traditional wedges have always been designed specifically for the skills of elite tour players who spend years perfecting their wedge games. Robotic testing proves that these traditional ‘tour design’ wedges are the most difficult clubs in our bags with which to attain consistent results, especially for recreational golfers. That has driven my work on wedges for over thirty years.”
In contrast, the Edison Forged wedges were designed for serious recreational golfers and feature a distinctly different weighting arrangement that distributes up to 25% more mass above the impact point to dramatically improve distance control and forgiveness, while also increasing spin. They also feature the patented and proven “Koehler sole”, which combines both a high and low bounce into each wedge for optimum versatility. Quality forged construction and Edison’s durable chrome finish combine to deliver exquisite feel while significantly extending the useful life of the wedges.
The Edison Forged wedge performance superiority can easily be experienced with Edison’s Risk-Free Trial program, where you can try any Edison wedge for up to 30 days on your course, hitting the shots you face every round. According to Koehler, "A fair comparison of an Edison Forged wedge to any other brand will almost always show the Edison Forged wedges to deliver more consistent distance, improved spin and more penetrating launch angles.”
Koehler, who also writes a popular weekly blog as The Wedge Guy on GolfWRX.com, has spent more than 40 years designing golf clubs, the past 30 of them focused on wedges. His work in wedges dates to the early 1990s with his patented sole design, which incorporated two distinct bounce angles in the sole of each wedge to deliver versatility for any lie and swing path. He pioneered raising the CG (center of mass) of wedges with Reid Lockhart, and his EIDOLON wedges of the early 2000s were the first to introduce CNC-milled grooves in mainstream wedges as well as thicker upper section of the wedge clubhead. Koehler’s design philosophies were further advanced with his breakthrough progressive weighting in the SCOR wedges of 2011-2014 and the Ben Hogan TK wedges of 2015-2017.
Nearly every major brand wedge on the market today exhibits a slightly thicker upper section, but none are as pronounced or as effective as even Koehler’s early designs.
All Edison Forged wedges are backed by a 30-Day Performance Guarantee. The company will let you play your Edison Forged wedges for 30 days to see how they will improve your game. If for any reason it's not the best wedge you've ever played, they will buy it back.
The Edison Forged wedges are custom crafted for each golfer and are available with a wide range of shafts and grip options through the company’s website at www.EdisonWedges.com. The holiday offer is $40 off per wedge, with no limit to how many you can purchase at that price. To take advantage of this special pricing, customers can use Discount Code EDISON40 at checkout. The offer is available through midnight Saturday, December 31, 2022.

The event provides an opportunity for retired military personnel and their spouses to participate in a golf tournament aimed at providing camaraderie and competition. The NRMGC is an IRS approved 501(c) 3 charity that annually donates a portion of its proceeds to the Fisher House Foundation, the USO, Jr. ROTC and Folds of Honor.
"The upcoming 40th anniversary of the tournament is expected to be an amazing event and we're excited to partner with GTS and PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com to make it the best golf tournament yet for our military retirees," said MG (Ret.) Abe Turner, Tournament Chairman.
The NRMGC is one of 11 events the GTS tournament division will operate in 2023. Collectively the events will attract more than 6,000 players, account for more than 25,000 rounds of golf, and deliver millions of dollars in economic impact to the Myrtle Beach community.
Most notably, GTS runs the PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship, the world's largest single-site amateur golf tournament, an event that annually attracts more than 3,200 players from all 50 states and 15+ different countries.
Other events include the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, the Palmetto High School Golf Championships, the GolfBuddy Veterans Classic, Brittain Resorts Classic, World Am Q School, GolfTrek Challenge, Golfweek Myrtle Beach Amateur, Saintnine World Couples, and the Short Par 4 Fall Classic.

Gold-plated PLD Anser Patent 55 putter drops December 12; only 55 available
(PHOENIX) – A gold-plated, fully milled, stainless-steel PLD Anser Patent 55 putter is the fourth and final collector’s model being offered as part of a year-long celebration acknowledging the issuance of the Anser putter patent 55 years ago. It is available exclusively through pingpld.com beginning Monday at 2 p.m. ET.
Only 55 of the precision-milled, handcrafted putters, which are made in the USA and serialized, will be available via the website for $990 (limit one per customer). The first three models sold out within minutes, so those interested are encouraged to plan accordingly.
Choosing to gold-plate the final version of the collection is a tribute to the Anser’s unmatched record of winning, which led to its prominence in PING’s world-renowned Gold Putter Vault -- a tradition started by PING Founder Karsten Solheim in the early 1970s and home to more than 3,200 gold-plated PING putters, each representing a victory. Since its invention in 1966, the Anser has won more than 700 professional tournaments around the world.
“I can’t think of a better way to complete this wonderful celebration of the Anser putter and its game-changing patent,” said PING Executive Chairman John A. Solheim, who custom built the very first Anser putters in the family garage as a teenager. “Our tradition of awarding gold-plated PING putters to tournament champions has arguably created the most valuable collection of putters in the world. It’s a great source of pride for us, and golfers who have a chance to visit the Vault stand in amazement as they soak in its place in history. The Anser putter occupies the most space by far in the Vault, so it’s only natural we’d offer a gold-plated version to complete the PLD Limited collection.”
The Anser Story
Granted on March 21,1967, by the U.S. Patent office and assigned the number D207-227, the game-changing Anser patent set the standard in putter design that still dominates the winner’s circle today, including 20 major championships.
The history of the famous design is well-chronicled, from it first being sketched by Karsten Solheim on a 78-rpm record sleeve to his wife Louise’s idea to name the putter Anser, cleverly suggesting Karsten leave out the letter “w” in the word answer to ensure the name would fit on the back of the putter. Earning its first PGA Tour win at the 1966 Florida Citrus Open, just over a month after its introduction at the Phoenix Open, the Anser’s instant popularity changed the trajectory of the company practically overnight as demand grew so quickly it necessitated a move out of the family’s Scottsdale, Ariz., garage and into a small building in north Phoenix to keep up with production. The original building still stands at the company’s 50-acre headquarters.
The Anser is also famous for its influence on other putter designers in the golf industry, many of whom celebrated the day the patent expired.
“A lot of time has passed since the invention of the Anser putter,” said John A. Solheim, the youngest son of Karsten and Louise. “We think it’s important to remind the golf industry and some of the younger golfers that the familiar putter design they see with other brands’ name on it was created by Karsten in his garage in the mid-1960s. I was fortunate to be at his side building the first Ansers and continued to do so for many years. It was among Karsten’s many contributions to the game that eventually earned him induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame, the only manufacturer to be so honored. We’re flattered that the design has had such a significant influence on putter design for the last 55 years and we think this is a great time to celebrate its continuing success by offering golfers a piece of PING history with the introduction of the PLD Anser Patent 55 model.”

Club Champion Now Offers Over 65,000 Hittable Club Combinations
Custom fitter remains atop the fitting industry with more new additions
(Willowbrook, IL) – With additions from new brand partners like BADDAZZ Shafts and expansions within several brand lines, Club Champion has surpassed the 65,000 mark for in-store hittable combinations. The globe’s top club fitter and builder reached the 50,000 mark in January of 2021 and hasn’t looked back since.
“Another year, another milestone. 50,000 combinations was incredible, but we’re proud to say we’ve expanded our demo variety even further,” said Adam Levy, Club Champion CEO. “We challenge ourselves to offer the most extensive, in-depth fittings in the industry, and our vendor partnerships and the matrix of options available are key elements of our success.”
With over 20,000 head and shaft combinations for the driver alone, golfers won’t have to worry about finding the right fit at Club Champion. 65,000 is by far the largest number of hittable combinations available to consumers and ensures that Club Champion fitters can find results for any golfer since they have nearly every conceivable option at their fingertips.
Brand agnosticism is a key component in the company’s success — the only goal is to find the best numbers for the golfer in the bay. Big brands like TaylorMade and Callaway are represented alongside niche brands like Miura and PRGR. Club Champion also carries direct-to-fitter shaft brands and other options that aren’t widely available.
MORE Golf, a new American golf club manufacturer, has broken onto the scene with its individualized nature. With unique weighting and adjustability options, these clubs were manufactured to not only be fitted, but to also improve scores, which fits perfectly with Club Champion’s main ideology.
Additionally, BADDAZZ Shafts come from a more familiar brand — with a twist. From the mind of Victor Afable of VA Shafts, BADDAZZ Shafts are a newer player in the equipment industry that creates a high-quality, moderately priced series of driver and iron shafts that complement and enhance the benefits of custom fitting. With high performance and a lower price, golfers will find these shafts on more courses as time goes on.
“There’s no such thing as ‘good enough’ at Club Champion,” Levy said. “Our tagline says it all — with a better fit, you achieve lower scores, and it’s our job to be better than the others so you can play at your best.”
To learn more about Club Champion and their 65,000+ hittable head and shaft combinations across more than 60 brands, visit clubchampion.com.
ahead Introduces AeroSphere Tech Fabric
New “Ultimate Fit” caps feature comfort, cooling material
(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) – In its near-30-year history, ahead has had a keen knack for shaking things up, continuing to evolve, and bringing new items to the marketplace. The latest innovation—to be introduced for delivery in early 2023—will be the new Ultimate fit cap series featuring the next evolution of the ahead’s signature Sphere performance fabric.
Two caps will debut with the new AeroSphere tech fabric, which will take the best-selling polyester-spandex hat and make it even better. Designed to dramatically help with cooling and moisture wicking, as well as evolve the fit, the Stratus (structured) and Frio (unstructured) styles will be formally introduced at the PGA Show in January 2023.
Ahead will begin shipping the “one-size-fits-most” Ultimate Fit styles—a hybrid between the company’s Mid-Fit and Classic Fit styles—in early 2023.
“Our customers look to us as aesthetic leaders,” said Chuck Lord, Chief Creative Officer, ahead. “So, we are constantly looking at how we can improve upon what we offer, while not straying too far from what our customers have long loved about our Sphere performance caps. The Ultimate Fit designation speaks to the fact that these hats are literally the best fitting hats ahead has ever designed.”
Along with improved moisture wicking and breathability, both caps will have a Dry-Fit sweatband to provide more stretch for comfort, and an SPF 30+ sun protection rating. Both styles utilize a thinner, updated closure, replacing the typical hook-and-loop closure. The Stratus will have a D-ring stretch micro-Velcro closure in back to give wearers even more play in the fit, while the Frio closure features performance Velcro tabs with the ahead signature elastic loop pull.
Both the Stratus and Frio caps are offered in a robust color palette with nearly two dozen colors in each style – ensuring broad allure, including for the university market.
The new AeroSphere fabric caps—along with ahead’s entire Summer/Fall headwear, apparel, and accessories lines—will be featured at ahead booth #5957 at the 2023 PGA Show, Jan. 24-27, taking place at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center.
