Additionally, ClubUp technology offers a more efficient way to schedule and communicate with caddies working at a partner club property. USGA Adds Wearable Technology to Golfer Products Suite

Innovation supported by Sentry includes smart watch integration with score entry, stat tracking, GPS distances

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) and Sentry Insurance have made it easier for recreational golfers to track their on-course performance by unveiling additional features to it
s Golf Handicap Information Network (GHIN) mobile app, including a new smart watch app integration.

Nearly 3 million existing GHIN subscribers were given free access to new hole-by-hole scoring and tracking features on their Apple Watch in June, including the capability to track the number of putts, approach shot accuracy and driving accuracy with a few clicks.

Users of GHIN’s enhanced GPS now also have access to two new features on their Apple Watch: distances to the front, center, and back of the green, and distances to key points on holes such as bunkers, layup areas and penalty areas.

“We are consistently investing in technology, making it easier for golfers to enjoy the game they love,” said Gareth Londt, managing director of Product, Data & Technology, USGA. “Adding wearable technology as an extension to the GHIN mobile app has been very well received, and is just the latest step in our journey to unify and advance the game for the next generation of golfers.”

These latest innovations delivered by the USGA are made possible through its corporate partnership with Sentry, a recognized leader in business insurance and the presenting partner of GHIN. They follow significant advancements made to the GHIN mobile app in 2021, including GPS, course maps and green-reading technology, among other additions.

The GHIN mobile app also automatically delivers an official Handicap Index® that is updated daily to subscribers in the United States and beyond and connects users with their local Allied Golf Association.

The USGA first developed the network in 1981 to relieve the burden placed on clubs and golf associations to manage golfer handicap data on their own. Most golf courses and associations in America are now part of the GHIN ecosystem, with updated GHIN products released to accommodate the launch of the World Handicap System™ in 2020. Obtaining a Handicap Index is easy and requires posting only three 18-hole scores. For more information, see www.usga.org/getahandicap.

The USGA also plans to introduce new features to the GHIN mobile app later this year, such as games and multi-player scorekeeping. Users can download the GHIN mobile app from both the Apple App Store and Google Play. For more information, visit www.usga.org/ghin.

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club To Host National Golf Invitational

Men’s and women’s event, presented in partnership with Golfweek, similar to college basketball NIT

(Maricopa, Ariz.) – Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. will be the host site for the inaugural National Golf Invitational in May 2023. Presented in partnership with Golfweek, the National Golf Invitational will feature a men’s and women’s competition, each with a maximum of 18 teams playing 54 holes of stroke play. Women will play May 11-14, with the men playing May 18-21. The exciting new collegiate event comes after the NCAA announced in May that it would allow schools to play in one season-ending event, similar to college basketball’s NIT.

Golfweek’s Lance Ringler will serve as the National Golf Invitational’s tournament director and the field will be invitation-only as decided by a committee using both the Golfweek/Sagarin and Golfstat rankings along with a committee decision on teams that have a strong regular season.

“This is something I have talked about for many years and am extremely excited to make this a reality. Many coaches over that time have expressed a want and a need for a second postseason event like we see in other sports and the sport is ready to support another postseason tournament,” said Ringler. “With the NCAA now allowing teams to play in one postseason event, teams that don’t find a path to the NCAA regional play can now look at what we are doing as an option.”

“Ak-Chin Southern Dunes is excited to carry on our proud tradition of hosting high level championship events as the host site for the men’s and women’s National Golf Invitational,” said Ak-Chin Southern Dunes General Manager Brady Wilson. “Certainly, the popularity of golf in the Valley of Sun and the growing exposure of college golf make for perfect timing to have a second National Championship event so that more college programs and student athletes are able to play into the post-season.”

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes has played host to numerous major tournaments and events since opening in 2002, serving as an annual U.S. Open qualifying site, host site for the first stage of the PGA TOUR’s Korn Ferry Tour Q-School, and several top collegiate men’s and women’s golf tournaments, including the Copper Cup, a two-day Ryder Cup-style event featuring in-state rivals the University of Arizona and Arizona State University men’s golf teams. In addition, the course annually hosts top amateurs in the Desert Amateur in December and the Saguaro Amateur held in early January. Both events are part of the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series, a multi-tournament series providing high-level amateurs a chance to compete throughout the year.

In 2026, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club will be a host site for the Men’s Golf NCAA Regionals. The “Top 100 You Can Play” golf course will be one of six Regional sites in the U.S. with each site hosting 14 collegiate teams. The top five teams from each Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships to be held in 2026 at La Costa Resort and Spa in San Diego, Calif. Exact dates for the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Regionals will be announced at a later date, but the tournament is expected to take place in mid-to-late May 2026.

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club was designed by Brian Curley and PGA TOUR veteran Fred Couples in 2002. Originally developed as a private club by private investors, the championship Australian Sandbelt-style golf course sits on 320 acres of land that was once a part of the Ak-Chin’s May 1912 reservation before it was removed by Presidential Executive Order in late 1912. Nearly 100 years later, in 2010, the Ak-Chin Community recovered its sacred land when it purchased the golf facility and opened the course to public play. The course currently boasts several coveted accolades, including being included on Golfweek’s coveted rankings of the “Top 100 Resort Courses” and “Best Courses You Can Play.”

Titleist Introduces Innovative Wedge Fitting App

Vokey Wedge Fitting App developed by Titleist, Vokey R&D and Fitting Teams

(CARLSBAD, Calif.) – A new Vokey Wedge Fitting App for indoor wedge fitting – developed by Titleist and Vokey engineers in collaboration with Titleist club fitting experts - is the first of its kind.

Specifically designed to enhance the wedge fitting experience for all golfers, The Vokey Wedge Fitting App golfers enhanced access to quality, precise wedge recommendations to improve their wedge play.

“We encourage all golfers to get fit for their wedges because we know it will help improve short game performance. This process raises the bar on wedge fitting by making high-quality experiences easier to access than ever before.” – Brett Porath, Senior Director, Titleist Club Fitting.

Working with an expert Vokey wedge fitter, golfers are asked a series of questions about their technique, course conditions and how they use different wedges for specific shots in a round of golf. Taking grind selection to another level, the Vokey Wedge Fitting App incorporates launch monitor technology to measure a player’s technique on a series of shots - from full shots to greenside pitches.

“Selecting the correct wedges, particularly the right grinds, leads to more confidence and lower scores. With the depth of options Vokey offers, getting custom fit is truly the best way to unlock the best short game tools for your game.” – Corey Gerrard, Marketing Director, Vokey Wedges.

The Vokey Wedge Fitting App focuses on data relating to a player’s angle of attack and their shaft lean at impact. Working in concert with the questions previously discussed with a fitter, the Vokey Wedge Fitting App ultimately recommends specific wedge grinds suited to the player’s technique and course conditions.

ABOUT THE VOKEY WEDGE FITTING APP

• The app matches data from a player’s technique to various playing conditions to find the right loft, bounce and grind combination for their wedge setup.

• Players will hit a series of shots based on the types of shots they will hit in a round of golf, including full swings, pitch shots and greenside shots with an open face.

• The app then makes recommendations based on how golfers deliver the club differently for various shot types (e.g., full, pitch, open face)

• Working with an expert Vokey fitter, players receive recommended grinds through an interactive process that typically lasts 10-15 minutes.

AVAILABILITY | The Vokey Wedge Fitting App will be available through authorized Titleist Trade Partners globally beginning July 2022.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does the app measure a player’s technique?

Technique is measured through a combination of attack angle and shaft lean that helps determine, along with course conditions, which sole grind will suit best on particular shots.

Does the app measure a variety of different shot types?

Yes, players are asked to hit the specific shots based on the shots they encounter in a round of golf. The app independently measures the player’s technique for different shots, from full swings, to pitch shots, to open face.

Audubon International Releases New Edition of “A Guide to Environmental Stewardship on the Golf Course”

Recently Revised 3rd Edition Provides Members With Updated Information and Resources and Provides Additional Guidance for Eco-Friendly Programs and Initiatives

(Troy, New York) – Audubon International – the environmentally focused non-profit organization offering members numerous certifications and conservation initiatives to protect the areas where we all live, work, and play – has released the newly updated version of its  “A Guide to Environmental Stewardship on the Golf Course.”

This revised 3rd edition is available to all Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses (ASCP) members as part of the organization’s 35th anniversary celebration and replaces the 2nd edition, which was last updated in 2013. The new guide incorporates knowledge gained through Audubon International’s decades of experience helping golf courses serve as ecologically valuable green spaces, while reducing potential environmental impacts associated with golf course operations.

“The 3rd edition closely reflects the expertise and experiences of the thousands of golf course superintendents, golf industry professionals, environmental organizations, researchers, and others, who have participated in the ASCP since 1991,” said Audubon International Chief Executive Officer Christine Kane. “We hope our members will refer to this new document frequently and allow it to guide them with sustainable practices already in place, as well as help introduce new ones at their courses, leading to tangible environmental results.”

Every chapter in the 3rd edition has been updated to provide current information, resources, and links. Highlights of the many other modifications include:

- Dividing the former Chapter 3, titled “Chemical Use Reduction and Safety,” into two separate chapters: “Chemical Use Reduction and Chemical Safety” and “Maintenance Operations,” which emphasizes the importance of both topics while providing greater detail

- Referencing current “Best Management Practices,” which have now been adopted in all 50 U.S. states, and other operational trends

- Providing comprehensive details regarding the planning process and implementation of water quality monitoring programs that meet certification guidelines

- Updating and enhancing the “References” and “Appendix” sections in order to provide more extensive information

David H. Robinson, CGCS, CGIA, Senior Director, Golf Grounds, Global Golf Division of Marriott Golf, was one of the many industry professionals to provide valuable input and counsel on the 3rd edition and called it a “must-have for every professional library.”

“Managing and enhancing the natural habitat of golf courses is a key goal for all industry leaders,” said Robinson. “The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf provides a framework that strengthens a facility’s sustainability efforts. The benefits of completing the program are always immeasurable.”

Audubon International began its 35th anniversary on July 1 with the announcement that it would waive the enrollment fee for the first 35 new members of the ACSP, by using the code “35Years” during the application process. Bringing on 35 new members will equal an investment of $17,500 and kicked off a calendar year of other important initiatives, such as the release of the new guidebook.

Edison Golf Now Offers Free Shipping on all Wedge Orders

(ROCKPORT, TX)
— Edison Golf Company, maker of the revolutionary Edison Forged Wedges, is pleased to announce it will now ship all wedge orders completely FREE via UPS in the continental U.S. starting immediately. Golfers can select any Edison Forged wedge built to their custom specs, and the company will build it and ship it free.

“We know from experience that once golfers try one of our Edison Forged wedges, they will see what the difference is all about,” said Edison Chairman and Director of Innovation Terry Koehler. “Offering free shipping combined with our 30-Day Performance Guarantee, makes trying an Edison Forged wedge easier and more risk-free than ever.”

While designed for serious recreational golfers, the Edison Forged wedges feature a cosmetically different weighting design that makes them look very different from traditional and stale ‘tour design’ wedges that have been on the market for decades. The Edison technologies distribute up to 18% more mass above the impact point to dramatically improve distance control and forgiveness, while also increasing spin. They also feature the patented and proven “Koehler sole”, which combines both a high and low bounce into each wedge for optimum versatility. Quality forged construction and Edison’s durable chrome finish combine to deliver exquisite feel while significantly extending the useful life of the wedges.

The Edison Forged wedges were designed by Koehler, who also writes a popular weekly blog as The Wedge Guy on GolfWRX.com. Throughout his 30-year history as a wedge designer, Koehler has repeatedly proven that historic ‘tour design’ wedges are the most finicky clubs in the game, even less forgiving than the most traditional blade short irons. He pioneered raising the CG (center of mass) of wedges with Reid Lockhart® in the mid-1990s, and his EIDOLON® wedges of the early 2000s were the first to introduce CNC-milled grooves in mainstream wedges as well as thicker upper section of the wedge clubhead. Koehler’s design philosophies were further advanced with his breakthrough progressive weighting in the SCOR™ wedges of 2011-2014 and the Ben Hogan® TK wedges of 2015-2017.

The Edison Golf website features a one-of-a-kind fitting tool, the WedgeFit Scoring Range Analysis to help golfers gain insight into their scoring range challenges, as well as to see which Edison Forged wedges will best suit their game. Edison’s streamlined purchasing process allows customers to easily custom-build their wedges to their own specifications for loft, shaft, length, lie angle and grip preference. If there is a particular non-standard shaft that the golfer prefers, the company will build their Edison Forged wedges on those shafts for a reasonable upcharge.

Edison Forged wedges are backed by the Company’s bold 30-Day Performance Guarantee. Edison will let you play your first custom-built Edison Forged wedge for 30 days on your course, hitting the shots you face every round. If you don’t experience “The Edison Difference”, the Company will buy it back for 100% of what you paid for it.

For more information about Edison Forged wedges or to take the WedgeFit Scoring Range Analysis, visit EdisonWedges.com.

Elder was awarded the Jack Nicklaus Award, given annually by the Golf Coaches Association of America to the golfer who excels throughout the course of the entire season, and was the Fred Haskins Award winner, presented annually by the Haskins Commission to honor the most outstanding collegiate golfer in the United States. It is college golf's equivalent to college football's Heisman Trophy. He finished his collegiate career as the nation's No. 1 amateur according to Golfweek/Titleist amateur rankings.

Golf Professional / Teacher – Gordon Johnson

Elected to PGA membership in 1986, Gordon Johnson has served the state of Texas almost his entire career. Assistantships at River Oaks and Oak Hills, then a PGA Head Golf Professional role at New Orleans Country Club propelled Johnson to the PGA Head Golf Professional role at Preston Trail Golf Club in Dallas from 1992 until 1999. For the past twenty-three years, Gordon has called Houston Country Club home, as its PGA Head Golf Professional.

During his PGA tenure, Johnson has mentored 17 fellow golf professionals to head golf professional roles, played in eight Texas Joe Black Cup Matches (and serving as a captain in 2010), competed in the 1990 US Open and the 1992 PGA Championship as a Club Professional. Ronny Glanton, originally of Mineral Wells, Texas, has spent his entire career at Sherrill Park Golf Course in Richardson – as an assistant from 1981 to 1984 and as head golf professional for the past 37 years.

Glanton’s stellar playing record includes qualifying for the PGA Professional National Championship nine times, playing in seven AT&T Byron Nelson PGA Tour events, winning six NTPGA Senior Division Major Championships and three NTPGA Team Major Championships, representing the NTPGA 16 times on its Joe Black Cup Team (4th NTPGA all-time in individual points) and serving as Captain of the NTPGA Joe Black Cup Team three times.

In addition, Glanton represented the NTPGA as an At-Large Director on the PGA of America Board from 2010-2012, representing the NTPGA, STPGA and Sun Country PGA.

With the addition of roles on numerous section and national committees (including Chairman of the PGA of America Tournament Committee from 2010-2014) and awards received (including an unprecedented three-time NTPGA Golf Professional of the Year winner), Glanton was honored as the 2020 PGA of America’s Golf Professional of the Year. He became just the fifth Texan to have won the Association's most prestigious award, joining Ross Collins, Hardy Loudermilk, David Price, and Randy Smith (all of whom are in the Texas Golf Hall of Fame).

Lifetime Achievement – Barney Adams

Barney Adams’ love affair with golf comes in many forms – player, entrepreneur, innovator, advocate, and leader. As founder of Adams Golf in 1990, after buying the remnants of Dave Pelz golf in 1988, Adams quickly grew the company to more than 100 employees and the leader in industry innovation. Adams’ sketches of a fairway wood design from notes he made during fittings that specifically addressed the challenge of getting the ball airborne from a tight fairway lie became the Adam Tight Lies Fairway Wood, the number one selling fairway metal in golf. Adams took the company public in 1998, at the time, the largest IPO in the history of the golf equipment industry.

Adams’ contributions to the game also include a fitting manual that became the foundation of the process the OEM’s use today and writing a story emphasizing moving to forward tees to derive more enjoyment and increase participation. The PGA and USGA adopted the principle, and “Tee it Forward” was born. Adams traveled the country as the organizations’ spokesperson to bring awareness to the project.

His philanthropy work is centered around The Ryan Foundation. Adams has been supporting the mission of The Ryan Foundation since its inception in 1992. His personal guidance and commitment to the Foundation has brought national awareness to finding treatment for MPS and LSD. The account of his first meeting with Ryan Dant’s father was read by millions in nationally renowned sportswriter Dave Kindred’s two feature Golf Digest articles titled, “The Power of Charity Golf” and “How Golf and Charity Came Together to Save a Life”.

Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses – Houston Country Club

Houston Country Club was founded in 1908, at what is now Gus Wortham Golf Course, by Will Farish & Walter Fondren- founders of Exxon; Howard Hughes Sr.- founder, Hughes Tool Company, Captain James Baker- co-founder, Baker Botts law firm (grandfather of James A. Baker, III), Joseph Cullinan- founder, Texaco; Jesse Jones- Secretary of Commerce, Head of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation and Houston businessman/philanthropist; and the estate of William Marsh Rice- founding entity of Rice University.

Houston Country Club’s current location was designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1955 and opened in 1957. Coore & Crenshaw redesigned the course in 1988. One of the five founding members of the Texas Golf Association, the club has played host to eight Texas State Amateurs (1911 -first on an 18-hole golf course, 1913, 1916, 1920, 1933, 1981, 2001, 2008) and five Women’s Texas Golf Association Championships (1917, 1921, 1928, 1938, 1961). The course has also held numerous famous exhibitions and USGA qualifiers and played host to the Houston Invitational from 1914-1954 with winders including Francis Ouimet (1922) and Doug Ford (1949). George V. Rotan was the first winner and won the event multiple times. Over the years, Houston Country Club has consistently opened its course to PGA section events and was a primary practice facility for the prolific University of Houston Men’s Golf Team during its championship runs in the 1970s and 1980s.

Two golf inventions originated at Houston Country Club. The original sand wedge was invented and patented by member Ed MacClain (Bobby Jones used it at 1930 British Open). Gene Sarazen modified it later after he got the new design idea from spending time with member, Howard Hughes, Jr. In 1947, member Dick Jackson invented and received a patent for the golf cart by welding a park bench on a Cushman scooter and called it the “Arthritis Special.”

Notable Houston Country Club members include President George H.W. Bush (son President George W. Bush active at club growing up), James A. Baker, III (former Reagan Chief of Staff, Secretary of Treasury, and Secretary of State), and Denton Cooley (renowned heart surgeon and performed first heart transplant).

Houston Country Club is the 14th facility to be included in the Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses.

As Airline Travel Woes Multiply, Explore Branson Golf Destination is Ideally Located for Summer and Fall Getaways

Within One Day’s Drive for Half of American Population, the SW Missouri Ozarks Oasis Beckons with 10 Courses, Three Lakes, Dozens of Live Shows, and Much More

(Branson, Missouri) – According to industry research released in June by Skift – the global leader in studying and reporting travel news and trends – for the first time since January “travel health” registered a decline. While a small decline, “this is significant in what it implies. Economic worries, mass cancellations at airports, and price hikes seem to be catching up with the industry,” reported Skift.

The canceled flights, major staff shortages, and lost baggage that has plagued airlines and airports for much of the summer, coupled with rising fares, is increasingly dissuading people from flying.

For travelers wanting to enjoy vacations this summer and fall but don’t want to fly, Branson is ideally located for drive visitors. One-third of the U.S. population is within and 8-hour drive, while 50 percent are within a 12-hour drive.

“The numbers don’t lie, and this is why Branson is increasingly appealing to so many people who aren’t flying currently but don’t want to sacrifice their summer vacations and golf getaways,” said Lynn Berry, Explore Branson Director of Communications.

Approximately 10,000,000 visitors came into the region in 2021, a significant increase over COVID-19 impacted 2020, and more than 10% over 2019, the last non-COVID-19 affected year.

While destination’s overall numbers were up, the positive trends held for many of its niches including golf. Branson’s 10 courses, live entertainment theatres, exceptional lakes, and family friendly activities are renowned for their variety and quality.

All 10 Branson Golf courses are open to the public and range from luxury resort to daily fee options. Located close to one another, the courses are situated near many lodging options, restaurants, theme park, museums, and countless other attractions without losing their idyllic settings amid the Ozarks’ natural bounty.

Five of Missouri’s Top 10-rated courses are in the Branson Golf destination, including the top four. Some of those are ranked among the country’s top 100 public courses by leading magazines.

Course designs by Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Bob Cupp, and Tom Fazio combine with first-class playing conditions, welcoming hospitality, and five courses that are certified by Audubon International for their environmental and conservation best practices.

Branson is annually voted a TripAdvisor community top U.S. destination, ranking No. 3 in 2021.

New PXG 0211® XCOR2TM Irons Make Cutting-Edge Golf Club Technology Affordable

Brand New in 2022, PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons Are for The Everyday Golfer Who Craves Exceptional Tech in the Name of Lower Scores & Having a Good Time

(SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.) – PXG has unveiled the latest evolution in its wildly popular 0211 Irons offering. New PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons employ some of the cutting-edge golf club technology in the company’s GEN5 series wrapped in a high-performance progressive set design and delivered at a price that will knock your socks off.

“PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons were engineered to include some of our finest performance-enhancing technology at a ridiculously good price,” said PXG Founder and CEO Bob Parsons. “If your budget is tight and you want to play the best, these irons are the easy choice.”

Informed by PXG’s flagship 0311 GEN5 Irons, PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons integrate XCOR2 Technology, Power Channel Technology, and golf’s thinnest club face. XCOR2 Technology results from a multi-year collaboration with material experts to develop a core specifically for PXG Irons that is lighter and faster. Power Channel Technology supports additional face loading at impact. The internal U-shaped corridor increases the coefficient of restitution (COR) and transfers more energy back into the golf ball for faster ball speeds and more distance.

The clubface is made from an HT 1770 maraging stainless steel using a cold roll manufacturing process combined with an aged heat treatment method. This produces an extremely tight grain structure and higher-strength performance than what can be achieved through the traditional forging process. This advanced material and process is one of the attributes that enables PXG to deliver the thinnest clubface in golf. Combined with XCOR2 and Power Channel Technology, the overall system delivers explosive performance and an incredibly soft feel.

Engineered with a broad audience of golfers in mind, PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons employ an innovative progressive set design. With years of research and performance data gathered by PXG’s Fitting Specialists, the progressive set design features varied blade lengths, offset, and bounce for greater forgiveness in harder-to-hit long irons and maximum control in shorter irons.

PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons also undergo a precision robotic polishing process. Robotic polishing is a notable breakthrough in manufacturing. This extremely precise finishing process delivers significant improvements in the consistency and quality of the final geometry of the clubhead as compared to the traditional, industry-standard hand polishing.

Built-to-spec and available in a Chrome or, for the first time, Xtreme Dark finish, PXG 0211 XCOR2 Irons are now offered online, in-stores, and through PXG Mobile Fitters. To learn more or to schedule a golf club fitting, visit www.PXG.com.

ANNIKA Foundation Bringing Next ‘Share My Passion’ Clinic to 2022 U.S. Senior Women’s Open at NCR Country Club

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The ANNIKA Foundation – the charitable organization founded by defending U.S. Senior Women’s Open Champion Annika Sorenstam – will host its next “Share My Passion” golf clinic at NCR Country Club on Tuesday, August 23.

The ANNIKA Foundation, in partnership with Toro and Mastercard, invites girls between the ages of six and 14 who reside in Greater Dayton and the Miami Valley area to write an open letter or send in a video to Annika telling her why they love golf and why other girls should learn to play. The creators of the 30 most-compelling submissions will be invited to attend the clinic during the week of the U.S. Senior Women’s Open.

Contestants are encouraged to handwrite/draw their letters or record a video. The submission deadline is Friday, August 12. An entry form can be found here.

“I’m looking forward to once again hosting a Share My Passion clinic during the U.S. Senior Women’s Open,” says Annika, who won the 2021 championship by eight shots. “I’d like to think last year’s victory in Connecticut was kick started by the smiles and enthusiasm I experienced with the girls early in the week.”

This year’s clinic will begin with a healthy lunch followed by warm-up activities. Participants will then rotate through a series of stations devoted to different swing fundamentals and staffed by teaching professionals. Thereafter, Annika will give a 45-minute talk discussing topics ranging from the full swing and short game to course management to nutrition and fitness. The session will then conclude with a picture and autograph session.

All juniors will be encouraged to attend the championship. Kids ages 18 and under already receive free admission to the U.S. Senior Women’s Open when accompanied by a ticketed adult. Each clinic participant will be provided with one free championship ticket for use by a parent/guardian.

The ANNIKA Foundation is dedicated to providing opportunities in women’s golf and created the Share My Passion series in 2018 to extend its impact to girls who are just taking up the game.

Complementing the Share My Passion series are the Foundation’s six girls-only invitational tournaments: the Hilton Grand Vacations ANNIKA Invitational presented by Rolex (United States), ANNIKA Invitational Europe and ANNIKA Cup (Sweden), ANNIKA Invitational Mission Hills (China), ANNIKA Invitational Australasia (New Zealand) and the Women’s Amateur Latin America Championship presented by The R&A and ANNIKA Foundation (Argentina).

They are joined at the college level by the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M, a tournament featuring 12 of the country’s best programs, and the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel, which is annually bestowed to the most outstanding female NCAA Division I golfer.

Since the inaugural Foundation tournament – the 2009 ANNIKA Invitational USA – 87 ANNIKA event alumnae have earned LPGA cards. Three of the five 2021 major champions – Patty Tavatanakit, Yuka Saso and Nelly Korda – are ANNIKA alumnae.

Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships Announce Letter Winners

(RELEASE) — Each year, entrants in the Pepsi Little People’s Golf Championships are invited to submit a letter about their involvement in golf, their family and other interests.

“These letters are exciting to read,” said Nan Ryan, Little People’s Executive Director, “and give us an insight into the life of the players. We had many letters this year, and it was difficult to choose the winners.”

A committee of three Estes Park ‘golfing grandmothers’ formed the 2022 selection committee, and chose four winners and two honorary mention winners.

The winners were Jack Rogers, 14, Iowa City, IA; Rylee Brockhouse, 13, Muscatine, IA; LiLiane Garza, 8, Houston, TX, and Owen Spokas, 14, Arlington Hts., IL.

Honorary Mention went to Alexander Jackson, 7, and Christopher Jackson, 11, both fro Raleigh, NC.

“I am a perfectionist when it comes to my grades,” said Spokas. “I care about them as much as a 5 ft. putt on the last green to win a tournament.”

“It’s so gratifying to read about the support these players receive from their families,” stated one selection committee member. “The parental encouragement these young players receive is outstanding, and so important.”

Rogers has played competitive golf since age five. “It has been so much fun meeting tons of new friends and playing the game I love at the same time,” he says. “My dad and grandpa both played D1 college golf. My dad told me how fun the Little People’s tournament is, as he played in it also.”

“I have golfed for seven years, since I was five,” says Rylee. “I am very excited for the Pepsi Little People’s tournament.” Rylee finished 3rd in her 12-13 Girls age Division in the 2022 Little People’s.

LiLiane started playing golf at age four. “I like swimming, weight lifting and gymnastics,” she says, “and I get to practice golf every Saturday with Coach Ben.” LiLiane won her Girls 8-9 Division in the 2022 Little People’s.

Scotland's Connor Graham Wins R&A Junior Open

Photo: R&A

(Monifieth, Scotland)
— Connor Graham thrilled home crowds at Monifieth Golf Links to win the R&A Junior Open.

The Blairgowrie golfer becomes just the second Scottish winner following David Inglis in the inaugural 1998 championship.

With 1999 Open Champion Paul Lawrie watching the action, 15-year-old Graham recorded a bogey-free five-under-par final round 67 to finish on 203, 13-under-par, to defeat heavily fancied Thai player Ratchanon Chantananuwat by five shots.

Eric Zhao from Canada was third on four-under in the 54-hole championship, with Riura Matsui from Japan in fourth spot on two-under.

“It’s a great feeling to come out on top in such a big event,” said Graham. “Ratchanon's obviously a very good player and it feels good to perform well against him and other good players.”

Graham overcame 109 players aged between 12-16 from 64 nations around the globe to notch his first victory of 2022 after four wins last year.

He added, “This win ranks very high just because of the way I performed here. I didn’t drop a shot today under the pressure so I’m really pleased about that.”

The plus four handicapper began the championship ranked 356th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking® (WAGR®), 343 places below Chantananuwat. The 15-year-old arrived in Scotland with an Official World Golf Ranking of 291st after winning the Asian Tour’s Trust Golf Asian Mixed Cup earlier this year, a win that made him the youngest male winner of a professional tournament at just 15 years and 37 days.

However, it was Graham who held a two-shot lead as the pair began the final round. That lead soon became four when Graham’s pitch to the 456-yard, par-4, 4th hole landed six inches from the flag for a tap-in birdie. That stroke drew a response from the 1999 Champion Golfer of the Year: “Great shot, well done Connor,” said Lawrie.

The Paul Lawrie Foundation Junior Jug was one of Graham’s four wins last year and he is part of Lawrie’s Foundation to help young Scottish golfers improve their talents.

Graham said, “It was pretty special to see Paul come out and watch me play. I’m one of his ambassadors and he’s helped me a lot in getting my golf to the next level.”

Graham took his lead to four shots by the time he arrived on the 10th tee thanks to two key holes at the 6th and 7th. Chantananuwat missed a short par putt at the former to fall three behind, before Graham holed a 41-yard pitch shot from the side of the 7th green for birdie. With the back nine playing into the wind, birdies were always going to be hard to come by.

Graham practically had both hands on the trophy when Chantananuwat double bogeyed the par-4, 13th hole to fall six shots behind.

“The front nine was crucial because I could have easily dropped a shot or two to let him in, but I kept my foot down and holed that pitch shot at seven to keep the momentum going,” Graham said. “I was glad to see that go in because it gave me a four-shot lead and I needed that because the back nine was playing hard into the wind.”

Chantananuwat said, “Well done to Connor, he played really well and deserved to win. I got the next best place and learned a lot about how to play links golf that will help me in the future.”

The Junior Open, to which all golfing nations affiliated to The R&A are invited to enter their best under-16 boy and girl golfers, is closely linked to The Open and is always played on a nearby course.

The Bobby Jones Whiskey Collection, The Clover, Celebrates Multiple Award Wins

Wins Coincide with Anniversary of Golf Legend’s Victory at The Open

(RELEASE) — This week in 1927, Bobby Jones was raising three fingers of whiskey to celebrate his historical win at The Open at the Old Course at St. Andrews, the home of golf. Today, his namesake whiskey collection, The Clover, featuring a Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and a Straight Rye Whiskey, celebrates victories in taste.

After winning the British Amateur at St. Andrews before his thirtieth birthday, Bobby Jones went on to become the only golfer to ever achieve the original ‘Grand Slam’ by winning all four of the major championships of his time in the same year, including the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, British Amateur, and the British Open.

He said of the Old Course, being played on for only the thirtieth time this week for the 150th Open Championship, “there is always a way at St. Andrews, although it is not always the obvious way.” Jones so loved his time playing there that he once noted, “I could take out of my life everything except my experiences in St. Andrews, and I would still have a rich, full life.” The town's residents felt the same about him, and he was bestowed honorary citizenship in 1958. The 10th hole of the Old Course was also named after him posthumously.

The Bobby Jones’ Clover Collection is a Jones family initiative created to sustain the legacy and values of golf’s greatest gentleman and champion.  The Clover exclusively features single barrel whiskeys that are nuanced, complex, and singular as the world's best golf courses. The collection’s three expressions have received high marks at several awards shows of late.

The brand’s Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey took home a coveted Platinum win in the Taste category at the 2022 ASCOT Awards. Its Rye earned a Gold in Taste at the 2022 World Whiskies Awards and the 2022 World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. In addition, the brand’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey won Gold in the MicroLiquor Spirit Awards and a 95 (Extraordinary - Ultimate Recommendation) at the 2022 Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

Beyond its great taste, every pour of The Clover has a purpose. As Dr. Bobby Jones IV said of his grandfather, ” [he] lived and played with integrity and compassion. He was the kind of person who inspired others to be their best selves. We believe the more we can instill the world with his ways of looking at things, the better the world will be.” A portion of proceeds from the collection benefits the Bobby Jones CSF to fund research and support for individuals suffering from a spinal cord disorder that the golfer also battled.

Visit www.thecloverwhiskey.com to read more about Bobby’s legacy, the Jones family’s ongoing work to preserve it, and where to find The Clover. Although released on an allocated basis, fans can enjoy an award-winning pour at select golf clubs and resorts or pick up a bottle from their local craft spirits retailer.

Dow Announces Long-Term Extension of the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational

Tournament officials announce the five-year partnership extension for the event to run through 2029 as  the 2022 event kicks off at Midland Country Club this week

(MIDLAND, Mich.) – Dow, the LPGA Tour and Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational (Dow GLBI) tournament officials have teamed up today to announce an extension for Dow GLBI to run through 2029. The extension marks one of the longest extensions on the LPGA Tour currently and comes as the 2022 event kicks off at Midland Country Club this week, where 72 two-person teams will compete for a share of a $2.5 million purse.

“As we celebrate our 125th Anniversary, I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off this year’s event and look ahead to the future than by sharing the news of Dow’s continued commitment to the Great Lakes Bay Region and to the LPGA Tour,” said Jim Fitterling, Dow Chairman and CEO. “Our partnership with the LPGA Tour continues to be a perfect platform for us to positively impact our region while showcasing our efforts in sustainability and inclusion as well as our customer-centric approach to doing business.

And we couldn’t have accomplished any of this without the support of our many community partners.”

Since its inception, the Dow GLBI has donated more than $1 million to local charities and organizations. The event partners annually with more than 250 local companies and suppliers and is estimated to have brought more than $25 million in economic impact to the Great Lakes Bay Region. In addition to the official LPGA tournament, the week-long event features many ancillary events and activities meant to engage the entire community including the Eat Great Food Festival, an onsite STEM Center for kids and families, SOAR – an inclusion summit, and more.

The Dow GLBI made its debut in 2019 as the first official team competition in LPGA Tour history. That same year the tournament won LPGA Tournament of the Year – the first time this award was presented to a first-year tournament.

“Dow continues to be a leader in sustainability and inclusion on the LPGA Tour, and we are thrilled to continue this incredible partnership,” said Mollie Marcoux Samaan, LPGA Commissioner. “Partners like Dow not only help elevate the playing field for our golfers, but also allow us to use our collective platform for maximum impact. The longevity of our partnership is a true testament to Dow’s commitment and leadership.”

The Dow GLBI became the first event on the LPGA Tour to receive and retain full GEO® Certification for its sustainability efforts and was also the first-ever professional golf tournament to receive this recognition in its first year of operation. In 2021, the Dow GLBI also became the first-ever event on the LPGA Tour to achieve carbon neutrality, tournament officials announced last week. Dow is the Official Sustainability Resource of the LPGA Tour and the Ladies European Tour offering the league and tournaments strategies and a blueprint to become more sustainable.

“Dow’s purpose is to deliver a sustainable future for the world through our materials science expertise and collaboration with our partners,” said Dow GLBI Executive Director Chris Chandler. “That’s why this partnership with the LPGA family is so critical – and why it’s a privilege to be a part of it. Together, we believe we can imagine a better future through sport – harnessing the power of sport to drive meaningful and actionable change for our planet.”

The tournament will remain at its host course, Midland Country Club, through 2029, where the 2022 Dow GLBI kicks off today. More information and a detailed schedule of events for this year’s tournament can be found online at www.DowGLBI.com.

Firestone Country Club Celebrates Memorable Bridgestone Senior Players Week

Historic Venue Site of Events Centering Around PGA Tour Champions Major
Including Ambassador of Golf Award Ceremony, Lanny Wadkins Room Dedication Ceremony

(AKRON, Ohio) – Firestone Country Club, renowned as one of North America’s most historic venues for championship golf, celebrates a remarkable week as host of the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship on the PGA Tour Champions.

The storied club, which has hosted numerous PGA Championships and World Golf Championships on the PGA Tour, was the site of the 2022 Bridgestone Senior Players Championship on the PGA Tour Champions from July 4-10. Jerry Kelly, who won the 2020 edition and finished runner-up last year, claimed his second senior major on the famed South Course. Kelly finished at 11-under 269 for the tournament, outlasting defending champion Steve Stricker as the pair swapped places from last year’s final leaderboard.

Firestone also hosted the 2022 Ambassador of Golf award ceremony on July 7, with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice accepting the honor. Presented by the FirstEnergy Foundation, the Ambassador of Golf Award honors a person who has fostered the ideals of the game on an international level and whose concern for others extends beyond the golf course. Rice is the sixth woman to be honored with the Ambassador of Golf award, and she adds her name to a list of honorees including Byron Nelson (1983), President Gerald Ford (1985), Nancy Lopez (1992) and Fred Couples (2019).

Also on July 7, Hal Sutton, Hale Irwin and Andy North joined the festivities at the “Coffee with Legends” reception. The trio shared their most memorable moments of Firestone on the club’s beautiful front lawn prior to the start of play on Thursday.

Following the conclusion of the second round on July 8, Firestone celebrated the career of Lanny Wadkins with a ceremony dedicating Clubroom No. 24 in the historic clubhouse in his name. A major champion and World Golf Hall of Famer, Wadkins joins a long list of the game’s greats who have been honored with a Clubroom on the top floor of the clubhouse including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Tiger Woods.

Other festivities occurring throughout tournament week included Summerfest at Firestone, which featured local food trucks and other dining options as well as concerts from such noted performers as The Vindys  and the Akron Symphony Orchestra. Several pro-am and sponsor tournaments and parties also took place, in addition to golf clinics and a Wednesday junior golf tournament.

“As the host of the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship since 2019, it has been a pleasure to welcome back the greats of the game to such a historic and premier venue as we have here at Firestone Country Club,“ says General Manager Jay Walkinshaw. “This year was no different, thanks in large part to the efforts of our incredible staff who make our club what it is: a true home for golf.”

Next year, the event will have a new date and a new sponsor. Akron-based Kaulig Companies signed a four-year title sponsor deal that starts in 2023 and will keep the tournament at Firestone through 2026. The 2023 Kaulig Companies Senior Players Championship will occur July 13-16. The 2023 event will also mark the 70th anniversary of professional golf at Firestone.

Firestone is conveniently located less than an hour from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and 15 minutes from Akron-Canton Airport. It is also within easy driving distance of other major metropolitan areas such as Chicago, Columbus, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Detroit. Nearby off-course attractions include the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton and the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
