Desert Course at Cabo del Sol to Reopen March 1


Brilliant Tom Weiskopf design ranks among the finest tests of golf in Los Cabos

(Los Cabos, Mexico) — The Desert Course at Cabo del Sol, a Tom Weiskopf creation that will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year, will reopen for play March 1. The course, closed several months ago due to COVID-19 restrictions, fully partakes of the region’s ocean-mountain-desert ecosystem. Routed in mountain foothills high above the Cove Club, the Jack Nicklaus-designed gem formerly known as the Ocean Course, the Desert Course is a classic test prized by shotmakers. All 18 holes on the 7,049-yard, par-72 resort venue serve up panoramic views of the glittering Sea of Cortes.

“We’re happily anticipating the reopening of the Desert Course,” said Erik Evans, Cabo del Sol’s director of golf. “As life in Los Cabos gets back to normal, we’re finding that golfers continue to travel here to enjoy a safe social distancing sport that’s more popular now than ever before.”

As part of the club’s “Healthy, Happy & Safe” initiative, Cabo del Sol is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) and the Health Department of Mexico to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Rigorous cleaning, sanitation and disinfection procedures have been expanded and enhanced above the club’s already high standards.

Chiseling holes into rugged terrain crisscrossed by canyon-like arroyos and winding barrancas, Weiskopf produced a masterful layout in the Desert Course. Dished-out fairways are framed by granite rock outcrops and a dense cactus forest punctuated by multi-armed cardon cacti similar to the saguaro of the Arizona desert. The variety of cactus on this well-groomed spread—barrel, jumping cholla, organ pipe and many more—is astonishing. Ocotillo, palo blanco, mesquite and gnarled torote trees also flourish here. Created with a great deal of sensitivity to the Baja environment, the holes appear airlifted into the desert.  

Broad fairway corridors with few forced carries instill confidence from the multiple sets of forward tees, ensuring an enjoyable experience for players at all ability levels. Large, sculpted bunkers marked by dramatic capes and bays signpost the fairways and defend the greens. Subtly contoured greens, a Weiskopf trademark, provide tantalizing targets, their long slopes, gentle rolls and distinctive tiers requiring a sure touch with the putter.

While the fairways are wide, the Desert Course presents a handful of semi-blind tee shots that make landing areas appear narrower than they really are. With its numerous risk-reward options, this well-strategized test needs to be played more than once to learn its nuances.

Pace and variety are the Desert’s strong suits. Drivable par fours at the fourth and seventh holes are balanced by sturdy par fives at the third and 12th holes, each a cross-country quest aimed into Pacific headwinds that calls for three solid shots to reach the green. The dazzling downhill par-3 16th hole, the sea flooding the horizon beyond the putting surface, requires better players to funnel the ball to selected pin locations on the large, sloping green. Average players can bail out to safe right side to avoid trouble on the left.

“With its dramatic views of the Sea of Cortes, the Desert Course at Cabo del Sol is one of the most unique desert layouts I’ve designed,” Weiskopf said. “The rare natural beauty of the ocean, mountain and desert environment provides an ideal setting and some of the best terrain for golf anywhere in the world. My design incorporates traditional bunkering, expansive greens, wide fairways, multiple tee placements, natural waste areas and spectacular ocean views. It’s one of the most scenic courses I’ve designed.”

The Desert Course is served by Cabo del Sol’s stately 40,000-square-foot clubhouse, which fuses colonial and traditional architecture with modern amenities to create a distinctive Mexican hacienda design. Marked by stone floors and high-beamed ceilings, the clubhouse features an expansive golf shop, men’s and women’s locker rooms, and picturesque views from its open-air verandas and landscaped terraces.

Suzy Whaley, Bridgestone Reactiv, Monahan Among Winners In 27th Annual ING Industry Honors Awards

– PGA of America President Suzy Whaley, Bridgestone Tour B Reactiv Golf Ball and Bushnell Wingman were among the winners in the 27th Annual ING Industry Honors awards program. Results in eight categories were announced Thursday via a ZOOM Presentation.

Also, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan received the special ING Spirit Of Golf Award for his leadership in helping the PGA Tour set the standard worldwide for bringing professional sports safely back during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The ING Industry Honors program recognizes outstanding achievement in the golf business. The non-profit, media-based networking organization International Network of Golf conducts the awards program.

Nominees in all categories are submitted throughout the year from anyone in the golf industry. Sub-committees that include experts in each category then trim the entries to the top three in each category. ING members then vote electronically to determine the winners, who are announced and recognized at the Industry Honors Presentation Press Conference. Holly Geoghegan of Golf Marketing Services is the committee chair.

Whaley, the first female President of the PGA of America spearheaded the Golf Emergency Relief Fund, which offered financial help to workers affected by COVID-19. She also helped craft the Back2Golf protocols that kept courses running safely.

Bridgestone Golf and Pyramid Putter each won their respective Product Ingenuity-Golf Equipment categories for their cutting edge products. The Tour B line features a Reactiv cover that’s built with an “impact modifier” that yields firmer performance on faster strikes for more ball speed, and softer performance on slower swings for increased spin.  The key to Pyramid Putter is a directional groove design that imparts spin to help keep the ball on line. The R&A to Submit Planning Application for New Golf Facility in Glasgow

— The R&A is submitting a planning application to Glasgow City Council for the construction of a new community golf facility that it is hoped will open in the summer of 2022.

The project aims to redevelop the existing public course at Lethamhill to create a family-focussed venue that provides access to a nine-hole course, Par 3 course, putting greens, short-game area, adventure golf and a 25-bay floodlit driving range for visitors to enjoy a wide range of golf activities, including shorter forms of the sport.

Additional features including a café, fitness studio, indoor simulator and movie theatre, education room and retail area are also being planned as part of a central hub that would offer views north over nearby Hogganfield Loch to the Campsie Fells and south to the City of Glasgow.   

Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said, “We want to make golf more welcoming and inclusive for people of all ages and backgrounds and so we need to appeal to them by offering a variety of fun and affordable activities that entice more families and young people into the sport.

“We are excited by the prospect of establishing a facility in the very heart of the local community in north-east Glasgow that provides an accessible pathway into golf and inspires people to get out, have fun and experience the many health benefits that playing golf with family and friends can provide.”

In collaboration with Glasgow Life, the views of local stakeholders including current golfers, community groups and elected representatives are being considered to assist in shaping the development of the facility to create a destination that truly appeals to local people. 

Work is also being carried out with the Golf Foundation and Scottish Golf to devise future participation and education programmes that use Glasgow Life’s existing Active Schools network to connect local schools with the new facility and inspire young people to experience playing golf in a fun and relaxed environment.

Councillor David McDonald, Chair of Glasgow Life and Deputy Leader of Glasgow City Council, said, “This project is a great example of innovative thinking which protects and enhances resources relied on by the local communities and the whole city. It delivers an incredible facility for golfers while at the same time offering families more opportunities to discover the joy and health benefits of taking part in sport.

“The prospect of creating such a fantastic venue in what is already a well-used hub is something everyone can be very enthusiastic about, and we’re looking forward to working with The R&A and engaging with groups and clubs in the local area to develop a facility which is the first of its kind in Glasgow.”

The R&A has been working closely with the Seven Lochs Partnership and leading sustainability professionals to establish clear commitments to delivering positive environmental, health and social benefits to the local community and ensure best practice in sustainability is used throughout the facility. 

A new network of public nature trails that link into existing walking routes of the Seven Lochs Wetland Park is being planned for use by visitors to the urban heritage and nature park, which seeks to promote health and well-being and enhance biodiversity.

Councillor Maureen Burke, Chair of the Seven Lochs Partnership, said, “The R&A’s plans for Lethamhill will be a fantastic addition to the Seven Lochs Wetland Park and will help to make the park a great place to discover and explore nature on your doorstep.

“This is a great opportunity to show how golf can promote wider well-being and environmental benefits and we look forward to working closely with The R&A to create new habitats for wildlife, design nature trails around the golf course and develop outdoor learning activities for local schools.”

Gull Lake View – Stoatin Brae Golf Course Earns National Golf Course of the Year

(AUGUSTA, MI) – The Stoatin Brae Golf Course at Gull Lake View Golf and Resort in Augusta, Mich., has been named the “National Golf Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA). The announcement was made recently during the NGCOA’s Golf Business Conference 2021, held virtually alongside the annual PGA Merchandise Show January 25-27.

Known officially as the Jemsek National Golf Course of the Year Award, the honor recognizes members demonstrating four criteria: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community, and significant contribution to the game. The Course of the Year Award winners come from the NGCOA’s core membership, which make an outstanding contribution to the game of golf in their markets and are model operations to their peers.

Stoatin Brae is the fifth Michigan golf course to receive the national recognition. The course was recognized for its several areas of community impact like the course’s work with the Boys and Girls Club, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Special Olympics, women’s and junior golf programs including Youth on Course, as well as the Audubon Society.

USGA Announces 11 Final Qualifying Sites on Road to 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines


Nine U.S. sites, along with Canada and Japan, will host final qualifying; entries open Wednesday

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) — The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced the 11 final qualifying sites for the 121st U.S. Open Championship, which will be played at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course), in San Diego, Calif., on June 17-20, 2021. Torrey Pines is hosting its second U.S. Open.

Additionally, online player registration for the 2021 U.S. Open will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 24 (champs.usga.org/index.html) and will continue through Wednesday, April 21 at 5 p.m. EDT.

Final qualifying, conducted over 36 holes, will be held at nine U.S. sites. One is set for Monday, May 24, in Texas, while eight are scheduled on Monday, June 7: two in Ohio and one each in California, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New York and Washington. For the 16th consecutive year in which international qualifying has been contested, Japan will host a qualifier, on May 24. A final qualifier will be contested for the second time in Canada, on June 7.

All U.S. Open qualifying was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and for the same reason England will not host a site this year. An exemption category will be added in which players can earn entry based on the three-event U.S. Open 2021 European Tour Qualifying Series (Betfred British Masters, Made in HimmerLand presented by FREJA and Porsche European Open, May 15-June 6). The top 10 aggregate point earners from those events, who were otherwise not exempt, will earn spots in the U.S. Open field.

“The U.S. Open is a uniquely democratic championship that offers thousands of golfers of all backgrounds a chance to qualify through a traditional two-stage process that was established in 1959,” said John Bodenhamer, USGA senior managing director, Championships. “Allied Golf Associations in the United States, along with the Japan Golf Association, Golf Canada and the European Tour, collaborate to provide players with a qualifying path to the U.S. Open that celebrates and reinforces the theme ‘From Many, One.’” 

The Columbus, Ohio; Purchase, N.Y.; and Dallas sites will use two courses. In Columbus, Brookside Golf and Country Club and The Lakes Golf and Country Club will combine to host final qualifying for the 15th time. Eight players from the Columbus qualifier made the 36-hole cut in the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach (Calif.) Golf Links. Chesson Hadley, who tied for ninth, and a pair of rising amateurs at the time, Collin Morikawa and Brandon Wu, were among that group.

Century Country Club and Old Oaks Country Club will join to host final qualifying in Purchase for the 16th time since 1963. Dallas Athletic Club’s Blue and Gold Courses will host the Dallas qualifier. The club is hosting the 36-hole qualifier for the 10th time, but first since 2011. Three players from the Texas qualifier in 2019 made the cut in the U.S. Open.

U.S. Open final qualifying returns to Woodmont Country Club, in Rockville, Md., for the 33rd time in the last 35 years, with only the North Course used for the seventh consecutive time. Springfield Country Club in Ohio will host final qualifying for the 12th time in 14 years. The Bear’s Club, in Jupiter, Fla., is a final qualifying site for the third time in the last seven years.

Piedmont Driving Club, in Atlanta, Ga., Rolling Hills Country Club, in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif., and Meadow Springs Country Club, in Richland, Wash., will each host final qualifying for the first time.

Canada is once again a host for U.S. Open final qualifying. RattleSnake Point Golf Club, in Milton, Ontario, will use its CopperHead Course. Harris English, who won the Sentry Tournament of Champions last month, was among five players from the Canadian qualifier who made the 36-hole cut at Pebble Beach. The Royal Golf Club in Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan joins Canada as an international final qualifying site. 

To be eligible for qualifying, a player must have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 1.4, or be a professional. Local qualifying, which will be played over 18 holes at 108 sites in the U.S. and one in Canada, takes place between April 26-May 18.

Ken Venturi (1964) and Orville Moody (1969) are the only players to win the U.S. Open after qualifying through both local and final play. Gene Littler (1961), Julius Boros (1963), Jerry Pate (1976), Steve Jones (1996), Michael Campbell (2005) and Lucas Glover (2009) won after advancing through final qualifying.

In 2019, the USGA accepted 9,125 entries for the championship at Pebble Beach, the eighth consecutive year that entries topped 9,000. The record of 10,127 was established for the 2014 championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club’s Course No. 2, in the Village of Pinehurst, N.C.

The 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines was both historic and dramatic. Tiger Woods outdueled Rocco Mediate, who advanced to the championship through the Columbus, Ohio, final qualifier, in a 19-hole Monday playoff to win his third U.S. Open title and record-tying ninth USGA championship. It was Woods’ 14th professional major championship victory.

A 'Subtle Bit of Swag' Carries Max Homa to Coveted Title at Genesis Invitational

The inspirational five-part series brought to you by AIG Life and Retirement begins by documenting Midnight Golf Founder/President Renee Fluker of Detroit, whose groundbreaking inner-city program is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Midnight Golf, with year-round participation of Michigan PGA Section Professionals, has earned national recognition for matriculating more than 3,500 at-risk students with 90 percent enrolling in college. 

In 1996, PGA Hall of Famer Renee Powell (debuts Feb. 24) became the first Black woman elected to PGA Membership. This year marks the 75th anniversary of Clearview Golf Club, her family’s owned and operated facility in East Canton, Ohio. Clearview is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as the first Black-owned facility in America, after her late father Bill, also a PGA Hall of Fame Member, founded the course in 1946. 

Three alumnae of the PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship—PGA Members Jasmin Cunningham of Providence, Rhode Island (March 1), and Tiana Jones of Parma, Ohio (March 15) ; and LPGA Professional Alexis Belton of Ruston, Louisiana, (April - exact date TBA) -- round out the series, while chronicling their unique journey to becoming impact-makers in the industry.  

“The women featured in ‘Standouts: Black Women in Golf' -- including three PGA Members -- have served as inspiring leaders and trailblazers for the golf industry and the game’s next generation," said PGA President Jim Richerson. Belton, a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University, is ranked No. 3 on the World Long Drive Tour and is the No. 1-ranked American. The winner of the 2013 PGA Minority Collegiate Championship women’s individual title, she is also in her second consecutive season on the Symetra Tour.

Puerto Rico Golf Association Joins Family of USGA Allied Golf Associations


PRGA becomes 59th AGA and the first outside of the 50 states

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) — To further increase engagement across a new and diverse sector of golfers and to expand the impact of its core services, the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced Monday that the Puerto Rico Golf Association (PRGA) has joined its network of Allied Golf Associations effective this year.

The PRGA becomes the 59th Allied Golf Association (AGA), and the first outside of the 50 United States. This alliance provides the USGA with the opportunity to directly impact and engage with Latin American golfers throughout the Caribbean. The USGA and the PRGA have worked collaboratively for more than 50 years to engage with golfers through handicapping, Rules, championships and various initiatives.

Founded in 1954, the PRGA is a nonprofit organization committed to serving golfers and golf clubs in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. As the authoritative body for amateur golf in Puerto Rico, it promotes growth, preserves traditions and protects the integrity of the game for more than 10,000 golfers and 22 public courses. Additionally, the PRGA is a significant promoter of junior golf through “Golf Para Todos,” a program founded in 2001 that teaches the game to disadvantaged youths and is one of the organization's most important initiatives.

“For the last 67 years, the Puerto Rico Golf Association has strived to grow the game of golf on our island,” said Sidney Wolf, president of the PRGA. “We are honored to officially become the 59th Allied Golf Association, which will only benefit and further enhance the golf experience for our members and future generations of golfers.”

Since its inception, the PRGA has established and maintained a global presence in golf. It hosted the 2004 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) and has developed golfers who have competed throughout the world under the Puerto Rico banner at the WATCs, the Latin America Amateur Championship, the Pan American Games and several regional championships, in addition to USGA and R&A championships. The PRGA also conducts USGA championship qualifiers and oversees more than 20 championships annually at all levels of the game.

The USGA works with its AGAs to serve the game at the local level by increasing golfer engagement, introducing the game to new audiences and improving the golfer experience. AGAs administer the USGA World Handicap System, inclusive of course rating, and serve as primary resources for USGA services, including governance, golf facility support and accessibility programs that benefit the long-term health of the game. Additionally, AGAs conduct more than 600 qualifiers annually for the USGA’s 14 global championships, which draw tens of thousands of competitors of all ages and backgrounds.

AGAs also have access to USGA-funded P.J. Boatwright Internships that provide immersive experiences for individuals of all backgrounds tailored to the unique needs of the 59 AGAs. Over the past 30 years, the USGA has invested more than $30 million in cultivating the future leaders of the golf industry.

“Adding the PRGA as a full-fledged AGA is a natural next step in our continued efforts to meaningfully engage golfers across all backgrounds,” said Mike Davis, CEO of the USGA. “The PRGA is doing an exceptional job serving golfers in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean and we are proud to officially welcome them to the USGA family.”

As part of its ongoing efforts to create a welcoming and accessible game, the USGA released a Spanish version of the Rules of Golf app in February 2019 in conjunction with Rules Modernization. With support from the Mexican Golf Federation and the PRGA, the USGA also led the effort to translate into Spanish the Official Guide to the Rules of Golf, the Rules of Golf and the Player’s Edition of the Rules of Golf.

Most recently, the USGA completed the translation of more than 700 Rules practice Q&As and launched a Rules page on usga.org in Spanish, which enables golfers to contact the USGA with Rules questions in their native language to promote a more inclusive and golfer-friendly experience.

USGA and The R&A Modernize Amateur Status Rules


(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J., USA and ST ANDREWS, Scotland)
— The USGA and The R&A have announced proposals for significant changes to the Rules of Amateur Status that govern the game worldwide. 

These proposals result from a modernization initiative that has identified a clear need to bring the Rules up to date to reflect today’s global amateur game and ensure that the Rules are easier to understand and apply.

The proposed Rules, along with explanations to key changes, have been posted on usga.org and randa.org and the organizations are now inviting feedback from golfers and stakeholders. Comments will be accepted through Friday, March 26, with the new Rules scheduled to be adopted on January 1, 2022. 

A comprehensive review of the Rules of Amateur Status began in late 2017, focusing on three main goals: to ensure the Rules are in the best interests of the game, reflect the modern game, and are easily understood and applied.

This review reaffirmed amateur golf’s important position in the game and the value in maintaining amateur status Rules to safeguard all the ways golf is played and enjoyed. 

The result is a set of Rules that redefine the distinction between amateur and professional golf and provide a condition of eligibility – amateur status – for amateurs who compete in golf competitions. 

As part of the modernization effort, it is proposed that the new Rules will identify only three acts that will result in a golfer losing their amateur status:

- Accepting a prize in excess of the prize limit.

- Accepting payment for giving instruction.

- Accepting employment as a golf club professional or membership of an association of professional golfers. 

To achieve this simplified approach, the following key changes are proposed:

- Eliminating the distinction between cash prizes and other prizes. 

- Using the prize limit as the only way an amateur can lose amateur status through their play (meaning that entering or playing a competition as a professional would not, of itself, result in the loss of amateur status).

- Removing restrictions from the Rules surrounding competitions such as long-drive events, putting competitions and skills competitions that are not played as part of a tee-to-hole competition; and

- Eliminating all sponsorship restrictions.

“Golf is unique in its broad appeal to both recreational and competitive golfers,” said Craig Winter, USGA Senior Director, Rules of Golf and Amateur Status. “We understand and value how important amateur status is, not only to those who compete at the highest level of the amateur game, but for the millions of golfers at every age and skill level who enjoy competitive events at their home courses. These updates should help simplify these Rules and ensure the health of the amateur game.” 

Grant Moir, Director of Rules at The R&A, said, “The Rules of Amateur Status play an important role in protecting the integrity of our self-regulating sport but the code must continue to evolve. This is particularly so in relation to the modern elite amateur game, where many of the players need financial support to compete and develop to their full potential, and the proposed new Rules will give much greater scope for this.”

The proposed new Rules are accompanied by an overview document and explanations that detail the rationale for why changes are being proposed and, in some instances, why they have stayed the same.

Dormie Network Pledges $4.8M to Nonprofits Nationwide in 2021


(RELEASE) — In the second year of its giving initiative, Dormie Network has pledged to donate more than $4.8 million of in-kind support to nonprofit organizations across the nation. The national network of private destination golf clubs will leverage in-kind donations to support golf tournament fundraisers and gala events held by and benefiting nonprofits operating in a variety of areas and serving a range of missions.

Following a successful 2020 giving year and on the heels of announcing the Dormie Network Foundation, the network renewed its pledge of giving back and supporting its larger mission to grow the game of golf. Planned donations include stay-and-play packages and memberships to its national network of premier clubs, both unique opportunities to sample the Dormie Network experience. Dormie Network continues to partner with GolfStatus.org, a division of golf technology company GolfStatus that provides golf event management technology to nonprofits hosting golf fundraisers at no cost.

“I’m very proud of what we accomplished, and how the Foundation continues to evolve and grow,” said Brian Schenk, Dormie Network Chief Philanthropy Officer. “As our influence grows within the nonprofit sector, we’ll look for even more opportunities to further the impact of our in-kind donations.”

Through in-kind donations in 2020, the network realized nearly $1.2M for nonprofit partners; a trend toward more focused partnerships and fundraising has increased the network’s 2021 goal to exceed

$2M in financial impact. Last year’s Dormie Day of Giving events raised $25K for Folds of Honor, $25K for Youth on Course, and $30K combined for various local chapters of The First Tee. The network will host a Dormie Day of Giving event at each of its six private golf clubs in 2021 as well.

The enterprising Froggatte is a former Evans scholar at the University of Colorado and spent his pre-Eyeline days as sales rep for IBM and various golf companies. Red Rock Country Club To Host Las Vegas World Amateur Next Week


(LAS VEGAS, NV)
– The plush fairways and smooth greens of Red Rock Country Club will play host to regional amateurs Feb. 22-24 in the inaugural Las Vegas World Amateur.

Pro Turf International, the maintenance company for Red Rock Country Club, has all three courses in outstanding shape for the dozens of amateurs who will tee it up in the flighted 54-hole competition. The host courses are the private Mountain Course and two public courses, Arroyo and Siena.

“Our courses are in top condition this time of year anyway,” said PTI’s Regional Superintendent Jared Bumpus. “But they are especially so for this event. We know the players will enjoy competing on these great golf courses.”

Two Arnold Palmer designs – the Mountain and Arroyo await the field for the first two rounds. The final round will be played on Siena, a Brian Curley and Lee Schmidt design. All three courses feature spectacular views of the mountains and the Las Vegas skyline.

The Mountain Course plays over 7,000 yards from the tips. That includes the dramatic 615-yard finishing hole, a challenging par 5 called “The Falls David.” Water, a large fairway bunker and the bordering native desert areas make this a difficult driving hole, and the well-bunkered green makes going for it in two a real risk.

Arroyo provides a slightly different challenge. There are 68 bunkers throughout the course, but most fairways provide ample room off the tee. Golfers need to save their best for last at Arroyo. The 401-yard finishing hole requires accuracy and length, with a tee shot that must carry water. The approach shot should avoid two deep bunkers left of the green.

The focal point of Siena can be seen right out of the gate. Lake Siena is a quarter-mile-long lake with cascading waterfalls on the 1st hole of the course. Siena features an ideal blend of slender and ample fairways, easy and challenging green complexes, and straight and dogleg holes. Maybe the best hole is the last, a 400-yard par 4 that features a lake beside the green that will swallow wayward shots to the right.
