Arizona Community Finds Silver Lining Amidst Pandemic

Desert Mountain Breaks Records in Sales and Rounds Played as Members New and Seasoned Seek Safety, Security, and Wide-Open Spaces

(Scottsdale, Ariz.) – The numbers are in and the results speak volumes. Desert Mountain—the exclusive Scottsdale luxury community and private club with seven golf courses, 10 restaurants, an onsite spa, and much more—is fortunate to be in a position of strong fiscal health despite the pandemic.

Often referred to as “The Best Golf Club in the World,” Desert Mountain is among the top 100 Platinum Golf and Country Clubs in the world as well as the only club in Arizona to be ranked in the top 20. It is the only private community anywhere with six Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses, plus a par-54, 18-hole course, No. 7 at Desert Mountain™, each designed to offer an individual playing experience for golfers of all skill levels.

At last count:

- More than 100 new members have been added this year across all categories, including golf, lifestyle, and junior legacy.

- Nearly 100,000 member rounds of golf have been played, up 33% year over year.

- Coming off 2019’s all-time record for custom-home sales volume of over $225 million, the community’s real estate sales are on track to surpass this with 78 custom home closings ($174,923, 892) since January; 24 additional sales are currently pending.

- Maintained full staff of 700 employees throughout the pandemic, with no layoffs or furloughs

When the pandemic is over, it could be people realize that they like the quiet and savor the serenity that comes with social distancing. And whether they want private places, thoughtfully planned social opportunities, or wide-open spaces, it’s all on “The Mountain.”

Desert Mountain features 8,000 acres of high-desert glory showcased on miles of trails ideal for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, while the ears can thrill to the magic of near-silence—barely perceptible breezes, the fluttering of hummingbirds among the cacti, nothing louder than the calling of birds and the canter of your horse’s steady hooves. More than 20 miles of hiking trails are covered by the proprietary Interactive Trail Guide—a touch-screen monitor at the trailhead—that directs hikers and riders off the beaten track and along edges of the Continental Mountains, among the desert’s mysteries, and through a river basin bursting with color at nearly 4000 feet.

More natural wonders are nearby, such as Lost Dutchman State Park, Phoenix Mountain Preserve, a choice of regional parks, and even the 2.9 million acres of Tonto National Forest: The largest national forest in Arizona, and seventh largest in the country, is our ruggedly beautiful next-door neighbor, filled with history, activity, variety, and, yes, beautiful stretches of water.

“We are often asked about everything within Desert Mountain, but one of the many surprising delights of our area is our proximity to some of Arizona’s most impressive water wonderlands,” said Damon DiOrio, Desert Mountain Club’s CEO. “Bartlett Lake is just 30 minutes east of the community, a playground for boating, fishing, paddle boarding and a host of water activities. Blue Wash Hiking Trail is just a 10-minute drive east of the community, and is home to a seasonally active waterfall. Not many people think of the desert as a place for wakeboarding and tubing, but we have it in abundance and our members treasure it.”

Within the City of Scottsdale and less than 10 miles from one of the country’s fastest growing urban areas, Desert Mountain offers countless quiet corners and empty spaces where it’s possible to find serenity in the great outdoors. Singly exploring—or simply curled up with a good book, blissfully relaxing in your own home—is “social distancing” at its best.

When it’s time to re-engage with the world, Desert Mountain provides the best the region has to offer. Within the property is a luxurious spa that’s expert in pampering (especially good if you’ve just come off the trails). Invigorating fitness classes, a multitude of al fresco dining options, seven impeccable golf courses, or getting involved with one of the dozens of social clubs and community organizations shape the lifestyle. There are limitless opportunities to do good for yourself—and do good for the world.

Another of Desert Mountain’s charms is its year-round accessibility. Sitting from 2,400 up to 4,500 feet high and above nearby Phoenix creates an 8- to 10-degree variation that makes all the difference when the golf courses and other outdoor activities beckon. And it’s an easy drive to the still-higher elevations of charming high-desert destinations like Flagstaff, Sedona, and Payson, which offer their own range of amenities, along with lower temperatures, great for beating the summer heat and for some excellent winter skiing, as well.

Pizá Golf Renovation of Itanhangá Golf Club Nominated for Best Course in Brazil

(PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO)
– Pizá Golf, recognized internationally for their innovative approach to golf course architecture which blends traditional British fundamentals with contemporary innovative designs from North America – proudly announces that Itanhangá Golf Club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil has been nominated by the World Golf Awards™ for the best golf course in Brazil. An association that serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world-class golf courses and golf destinations.

“We are extremely proud to be associated with this nomination. The renovation at the Itanhangá Golf Club came out really well and for the prestigious World Golf Awards to recognize this achievement is remarkable, and to be in the company of some outstanding golf courses like the Rio Olympic Golf Course designed by Gil Hanse is an honour. I am humbled, commented Agustin Pizá, Founder of Pizá Golf.

The Itanhangá Golf Course is one of the oldest golf courses in Brazil. Canadian born Stanley Thomas designed and built the first nine of 27 holes in 1935. The members and its board wanted to update and modernize the golf course as well as challenge its players but also maintain Thomas’ vision. They appointed Agustin Pizá and his team because of his sensitivity to nature, the environment, and ability to find solutions that a golf course this old might present. Their decision was also influenced by the fact that Pizá was chosen among the “25 most sustainable architects” in the world by Green Planet Architects.

The commissioned renovation was to redesign the back nine holes of the Championship Golf Course. Upon Pizá’s initial assessment, he saw that the existing layout created some safety issues to the players. After he reassessed the layout, he found the solution - alter the order of holes 11 through 16. Now, the 11th and 12th are back-to-back par 5s.

“The new circuit combined with the overall modernization actually brought back the original Thompson layout organically,” added Pizá.

There was great respect to the integration and beauty of the environment so there was very little movement of land. The new 11th par-5 hole features an iconic and indigenous Ipệ-rosa tree or pink trumpet tree that was enhanced by a strategically placed bunker.

“There is a unique relationship between the bunker and this tree, native to South America. When the season changes, the landscape changes, as does the golfer’s perspective. A truly beautiful site is when the petals fall and blanket the bunker creating a picturesque scene that enhances the beauty of the tree,” added Piza.

For inclusive purposes, Pizá and his team modified the tee boxes and green complexes which are strategically designed for pin placement options. They can be placed for an easy shot or can be placed for a difficult and demanding shot. New or beginning golfers enjoy the course and the back tees challenge the more experienced golfers. The signature 18th hole remains the most challenging and difficult hole in Brazil but now plays to a fair par-4.

“The beauty of this golf course is enjoyed by everyone, including my musical inspiration – Jorge Ben Jor. I have listened to his music since I was 20. He played Itanhangá on a day I was doing some follow-up and we connected. He told me how much he enjoyed the golf course and its new design. I shared with him that I designed it while listening to your music. Cool and magic moment,” added Pizá.

Pizá Golf’s approach and philosophy to a renovation is unique. He adheres to his “Reassessment Techniques” and they include:

· Gratitude

· Direct communication with nature

· Homage to the beauty surrounding the golf course

· Sustainability – ecological & economical

· What if? Tangibles and Intangibles

· Alternative - multi-purpose

· Inclusive (Real important during and post virus)

· Raise revenues / ROI

Seth joins the Buffalo Creek team with more than 35 years of experience and a mission to enhance the golf experience at Buffalo Creek Golf Club. He will be focused on creating new and dynamic player development programs at the Dallas-area club to attract new adults and junior players to the game.

Glasco developed a passion for the game at an early age and has a strong pedigree in the teaching industry. He credits two influential mentors and World Golf Hall of Fame Teachers, Bob Toski and Jim Flick, for helping to shape his successful career. Glasco’s teaching career has led him to 28 countries worldwide, including 38 states, and provided an opportunity for him to work alongside some of the top instructors in the game, including Jack Nicklaus.

Seth won the PGA Junior Golf Leader of the Year Award in 1992 and was awarded one of the Top Teachers in the U.S by GOLF Magazine in 2006. His lifelong mission is working with competitive junior golfers, male and female, and helping them reach their goal of attaining college golf scholarships, and in some cases, successful professional careers. Seth has extensive experience working with all types of players and enjoys introducing all people, no matter their age and goals, to the game.

“I am thrilled to build a strong instructional program at this beautiful golf course,” said Glasco. “The Perry family has a vision of making Buffalo Creek a world-class facility for all types of players and this was evident when I met with the team. I look forward to doing my part to turn that vision into a reality.”

Bringing Seth into the Buffalo Creek community is one of the many changes that the Perry Family has made since resuming oversight of the Club this past June, after nearly 30 years. The Perry family selected KemperSports to streamline operations, enhance golf course conditions, and improve guest services and overall customer satisfaction.

“We are thrilled that Seth has joined the team to enhance the golf experience at Buffalo Creek and bring more players to our facility,” said Kevin McCollum who represents the Perry Family. “This is just one of the many steps that we are taking to ensure that Buffalo Creek becomes a must-play in the Dallas area. SIK Putters Staff Pro Bryson DeChambeau wins the 120th U.S. Open at Winged Foot

(PINELLAS PARK, FL) —
SIK, The Fastest Growing Putter Company in Golf, would like to congratulate PGA Tour Staff Professional, Bryson DeChambeau, on his victory at the 120th U.S Open held at the legendary Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York.

DeChambeau’s final round was the best of the day by three, and he was the only player to finish the tournament under par. He fired rounds of 69, 68, 70 and 67 to capture a six-stroke victory over the field. This was the eighth win and first major of his PGA TOUR career that began in 2017.

He ranked 1st in Total Strokes Gained (22.273), 1st in Eagles and T-4th in Bridies and averaged only 1.783 Putts Per Greens in Regulation on the treacherous greens at Winged Foot.

When asked about his putting at the post tournament press conference, DeChambeau credited SIK Golf for playing a big part in the first major victory of his career.

“The putting has gradually improved over the course of my career,” DeChambeau said. “I was dead last when I came out on TOUR, and the SIK guys, SIK golf, they helped me understand how a ball needs to roll in order to give me the best chance to hole a putt.

This victory earned him a paycheck for $2.25 million dollars and 600 FedEx Cup Points. He is now ranked 1st on the FedEx Cup Points List and 9th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Bryson DeChambeau, commonly referred to as “The Professor”, is probably best known for his unorthodox set of irons that are all the same length, but what most people don’t know is that he’s captured all eight of his worldwide victories, and in excess of $20 Million Dollars in earnings, using a SIK putter!

The reason PGA Tour Players have and continue to migrate to SIK putters is because of its patented Descending Loft Face Technology also known as (DLT).

There are four planar surfaces that are precision milled on the face of the putter. Each plane descends in loft (4°, 3°, 2°, 1°) from the top of the face to the bottom. This creates a more consistent launch angle regardless of whether you add loft or deloft the putter at impact which leads to better distance control and less side spin.

Custom putters from SIK Golf not only ensure individualization, they truly "Change the Way You Roll". It is a literal game-changer for players and duffers alike.

Global Golf Post Reveals "Best 18 Holes of Golf" in Pinehurst Area

Ten Pinehurst Area Judges Determine Unique List; Final Hole on No. 2 Tops Rankings

(PINEHURST, N.C.) – In partnership with the Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Global Golf Post published a list of the 18 best golf holes in the Pinehurst region. The multi-page feature appears in the September 28th issue of Global Golf Post along with a special video.

The task of picking 18 holes fell to a group of 10 voters with an extensive background in the game and familiarity with the region. The goal was to create a traditional par-72 course – four par-3s, four par-5s and 10 par-4s – chosen from both public and private courses in the area.

Global Golf Post publisher Jim Nugent commented, “We thought golfers would enjoy a compilation of the best holes across the Home of American Golf. We think it will result in some interesting conversations among the millions of Pinehurst fans around the world.”

Added Phil Werz, President and CEO of the Pinehurst, Southern Pines and Aberdeen Area CVB, “The famed Sandhills of North Carolina is fortunate to have so many highly rated courses that generate their own buzz. Why not drill down a bit more and have 10 Pinehurst golf aficionados identify their own best of the best, which produced a broad selection of particular favorite holes.”

For those who know the area, the list will likely have them nodding their heads in approval about many of the holes while raising their eyebrows at some others. For prospective visitors to the area, it’s a bucket list of sorts.

It’s no surprise that Pinehurst No. 2 has three holes on the list – the par-5 fifth (for decades considered one of the great par-4 holes in the world), the par-3 ninth and the par-4 18th, where Payne Stewart struck one of history’s most memorable shots and poses 21 years ago at the U.S. Open.

Mid Pines, another Ross design recently updated by Kyle Franz, also has three holes on the list, its par-4 fourth and 12th holes, along with the par-5 15th.

Tobacco Road, one of the most inventive designs by the late Mike Strantz, is represented by its par-5 first hole and its demanding par-3 14th.

The Country Club of North Carolina has one hole from both its Dogwood and Cardinal courses, while Pinehurst No. 4, Pinehurst No. 8, Pine Needles, Dormie Club, Legacy Golf Links, Forest Creek North, Mid South Club and Talamore each have one hole among the 18.

Golfers can voice their opinion, as well. In addition, they may win a bucket list travel package for two to Pinehurst that includes four nights accommodations (two each at Pinehurst Resort and Talamore Resort), six rounds of golf (Pinehurst No. 4, Pine Needles, Mid Pines, Tobacco Road, Mid South and Talamore) and a $500 gift card.

The Road Back: Filling the League-Play Void with a Popular New Intraclub...

The City of Atlanta has an incredibly active tennis program, the Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association, and Ansley Golf Club has been one of its strongest participants, with over 250 members playing in the spring and fall leagues. But after this year’s spring season was canceled by the coronavirus outbreak, and Ansley's management decided to also opt-out for the fall because of potential exposures from outside the club, Director of Athletics Matt Grayson set out to fill the void by creating a new intraclub program, made up of equally balanced teams with players from all skill levels. In this episode, Grayson describes the program’s success both in numbers (280 participants, including 200 women) and in helping members make new acquaintances. “The social aspect has really been great,” Grayson says. “Members have liked it so much, there’s been talk about continuing it next year, even if the risk [of league play] is gone.”

In the Middle of Nowhere is the Perfect Escape

(DEATH VALLEY, Calif.)
– It’s one of the country’s best kept travel secrets, where escape artists find the great escape, that romantic getaway, stunning landscapes, the darkest of star-filled skies and seemingly endless outdoor activities, including a must play USGA golf course – the lowest elevated golf course on the planet. It’s warm in the winter with an abundance of sunshine, almost no rain, earth- warmed waters of 85 degrees, massive pools and a resort, called The Oasis at Death Valley. It’s legendary not only for its location, but for the movies and movie stars on location (Clark Gable, Ronald Regan, George Lucas…).

In a world where location is everything, especially in a post-quarantine world, The Oasis at Death Valley is certainly in a “universe far, far away.” It is 61 miles from the nearest town and sits within Death Valley National Park, the largest national park in the Lower 48 States (3.4 million acres which translates to about 710 acres of land per staff and guest). Social distancing, or for that matter civilization distancing, is one of the resort’s primary features.

Just off of a $100-million renaissance, The Oasis at Death Valley actually encompasses two hotels, gardens, date palm groves, bubbling brooks, spring-fed outdoor swimming pools and an 18-hole golf course. Death Valley is known for its light and almost artistic colorful beauty and exceptionally dark skies where the Milky Way can be seen with the naked eye. Besides hiking and sightseeing, outdoor enthusiasts will also find tennis, cycling, horseback riding, jeep tours and more.

The AAA Four-Diamond Inn at Death Valley will open to guests on Oct. 1 and it’s just 120 miles northwest of Las Vegas, NV and 275 miles northeast of Los Angeles, CA. With 66 completely renovated rooms and 22 new private casitas (outfitted with a personal golf cart).

Down at the family-friendly Ranch at Death Valley, all guest rooms open directly to the outdoors and the spacious lawns, massive pool and abundant open green space create an ideal environment to create your own adventure.

Introducing the New CNCPT Irons – Engineered by Titleist

Rare Supermetal Face Technology Delivers Unprecedented Performance in CP-02, CP-03 and CP-04 Models

(FAIRHAVEN, Mass.) – An exceptional engineering journey by the Titleist Golf Club R&D team – to discover the most satisfying ball-striking experience imaginable – has led to the new series of CNCPT by Titleist irons.

For Titleist engineers, CNCPT represents an ongoing challenge to redefine what’s possible. CNCPT provides them the freedom to pursue manufacturing and material technologies the game has never seen – regardless of cost – in the mission to deliver a level of performance that nothing else can match.

The latest realizations of this process – the new CP-03 and CP-04 irons – have been constructed from exotic high-performance materials that can take up to eight months just to source. Each part has been forged and cast to the extreme limits of precision, yielding a strike that generates supreme ball speed with ideal launch and unparalleled forgiveness:

• CP-03 provides an astonishing balance of power and control in a progressive midsize muscle back profile;

• CP-04 advances the original CP-01 design, delivering ultimate speed with enhanced accuracy in a player’s improvement head shape.

They join the superior blade-size performance of CP-02 in the new CNCPT series – available for fittings beginning today, Sept. 24.

CNCPT PERFORMANCE & TECHNOLOGY

Every CNCPT iron is designed and engineered to an inconceivable standard of excellence through the following innovations:

• Forged supermetal L-face insert – the thinnest unsupported, constant-thickness face in golf – produces supreme ball speeds with increased launch (mid to low irons). CNCPT irons are the first club designs to utilize this rare, super strong alloy.

• Multi-material, hollow body design allows for optimized MOI and CG placement in every iron through the set.

• Extraordinary amounts of high-density tungsten weighting – making up nearly 50 percent of the total head weight in the lower lofts – provide precise sweet spot calibration and greater clubhead stability. At least 100 grams of tungsten on average (mid to low irons) is used in each iron to produce the most generous and forgiving impact possible.

“CNCPT is the dream project for our engineers,” said Marni Ines, Titleist Golf Club R&D’s Director of Irons Development. “We’re on the journey to not only design the ultimate iron – but actually figure out how to make it. We’ve made a huge leap forward with the discovery of this supermetal alloy – the material is so strong and resilient that we’re able to forge iron faces even thinner than we once thought possible. It’s difficult to obtain and extremely challenging to implement into the manufacturing process, but the benefits to the overall construction in terms of ball speed, launch, distance and trajectory are just astounding.”

CNCPT MODELS

The CNCPT series is designed to allow players to construct their ideal blend of irons using any of the three models. The look, feel and performance of each iron provides a seamless transition in any combination:

V1 Game Mobile App Unveils Groundbreaking A.I. Shot Tracking plus Game-Changing Virtual Coach and Virtual Caddie Features

(Novi, MI) – V1 Sports (V1), creator of the industry-leading golf swing analysis software for teaching pros and golfers, has released a significant update to its innovative V1 Game mobile app that now includes A.I. Shot Tracking as well as Virtual Coach and Virtual Caddie functions to make the app one of the most versatile GPS, performance-tracking and comprehensive game-improvement platforms on the market.

With the V1 Game app, a mobile phone or Apple Watch becomes a golfer’s personal caddie, game performance tracker and pocket golf coach. V1 Game’s powerful GPS data provides accurate yardages to greens, hazards and landing zones to help you navigate the course like a professional. After a round is completed, V1 Game’s intuitive performance analysis technology provides a wealth of articulated statistics that reveal the user’s strengths, weaknesses and paths to improvement. With these newest features, the sky is the limit on GPS- and A.I.-powered game improvement. What’s more, V1 Game functions without the need for wearables, attachments or any external hardware other than a smartphone or Apple Watch.

“We’re excited that these new features make V1 Game the most comprehensive personal game management app on the market,” says Ryan Hebert, co-creator of V1 Game. “Using Artificial Intelligence, our A.I. Shot Tracking will help you make better decisions on the golf course and in practice. And, from club selection to aim point to what to practice next, Virtual Coach and Virtual Caddie reveal the very DNA of where you gain and lose shots and the path to scoring better. These new features revolutionize the way apps are being used help golfers effectively play better golf.”

For just the subscription price of V1 Game, golfers get player-friendly GPS plus the most robust platform for shot and performance tracking (including a wealth of Strokes Gained categories) on the market, plus dialed-in lesson prescriptions, metrics that chart a golfer’s target potential and A.I. functions that can “intuitively caddie” and guide them toward smarter practice and better play.

A.I. Shot Tracking uses available sensors in your smartphone or Apple Watch to detect shots and automatically mark your round. An Apple Watch helps V1 Game’s new swing detection algorithm detect when you swing and will automatically mark your location. Since the sensors are on your wrist, the app can accurately detect swing events and gives a soft vibration to indicate that V1 Game has detected a swing.

Golfers who don't have an Apple Watch simply need to start a round and keep their phone in a front or back pocket. Using a combination of GPS and accelerometer data, V1 Game finds the locations where the golfer was stationary and potentially hit a golf shot. For example, if the phone is in a pocket, the app can decipher when the golfer is sitting down in a cart or standing over a golf shot.

V1 Game still works if the golfer leaves the phone in a cart or golf bag. There may be slightly more post-round editing, but within a few minutes golfers can have a fully tracked round. Speaking of, edits are as simple as dragging shot locations with your finger on the hole map, in places the A.I. might have mismarked. The system also has several settings that allow golfers to fine tune the A.I., depending on if they play fast or not, to further increase accuracy.

“The best part is you don't have to remember anything,” says Dallas Webster, developer of V1 Game. “Once you start a round, the app tracks where you go on the course and automatically detects shots and locations. If you use the built-in sensors and let A.I. do the work, it is accurate to within three yards. Every shot tracking tool today requires some edits– even those with external sensors. We keep ours to a minimum. You don’t even need to remember what club you used on any shot– you can simply tap on any tracked shot to mark the club you used, right after you swing. One area where we separate ourselves is putting accuracy. While competitors rely on GPS information for putts– which just isn’t good enough for putt tracking– we use our quick-putt methodology to get those distances from users, accurate to the foot.”

Webster says V1 Game’s Virtual Caddie is beyond anything else out today, delivering tactful A.I. for course management. “Sure, we provide adjusted ‘Plays Like’ yardages like other systems, but we also build a history of how a golfer performs from various situations based on club use, lie, distance to the hole and weather conditions, and then offer simplified insights as they play,” he says.

For example, the V1 Game app knows that if someone tends to miss left from 150 yards and a right-to-left wind is also detected by the app, V1 Game suggests a club and to aim farther right. Virtual Caddie gives a recommendation and a quick snapshot of the data– just like a Tour caddie would– so that the golfer can make the best decisions on the course. V1 Game will even warn what to watch out for on approach shots, based on the golfer’s miss tendency from similar previous situations. A teaser video of this function can be seen at https://youtu.be/7CbuxUfnDqA.

The game-changing Virtual Coach takes the app to another level. It’s loaded with features to help players play their best. While many golf stat apps collect data and then dump it on the golfer to figure out how to apply that to their game, Virtual Coach does the insightful “heavy lifting.”

Not only does V1 Game plot a golfer’s putting performance, it uses A.I. to analyze the data and then advise specifically where there’s work needed. It displays advice, such as “Work on Approach Shots First” and “You are losing the most strokes on putts from 6-10 ft. Practice this range to improve the fastest.”

V1 Game also tracks “scorecard wreckers” and the shot events that culminate in big mistakes and big scores. “Knowing exactly what to practice is a game changer,” says Webster. “We remove the guesswork. Actionable data yields measurable results. You can use the ‘trends’ plots from Virtual Coach to quickly see what areas of your game are improving with practice or declining from neglect. Pairing this data with a V1 instructor can further accelerate progress.” A teaser video can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGsXCdQqrtE&feature=youtu.be.

“The V1 Game app is now positioned to be the most indispensable tool for golfers to personalize and fast-track their game improvement,” says V1 Sports CEO Bryan Finnerty. “If you want powerful, detailed data on where you lose and gain all your shots to become a better player, V1 Game delivers everything you need to fine-tune your approach and reach the golfing skill level you’ve always dreamed about.”

Other new features include Course Explorer that allows golfers to check out a course before they play it, and explore how the V1 Game community has previously played the course with ShotLink-like shot distributions; and Course Records that allows golfers to see their best score on every course they’ve played and compare them to the V1 Game community’s course records.

Users can connect and share stats and performance data with instructors and friends. V1-connected instructors can invite students to start receiving powerful feedback on performance and plans for improvement thanks to the V1 Coach app for instructors. V1 Coach, a companion to V1 Game, is a dynamic, data-rich system to help golf instructors and coaches manage their students’ performance data to optimize lesson content, practice plans, course management and scoring habits using the data supplied from V1 Game usage.

Pizá Golf Reveals its Ingenuity and Out-of-the Box Approach to Creating Award Winning Renovations

The Pizá Golf team unlocks the potential of a golf course in need of a renovation with their Philosophy and Methodology

(PUERTO VALLARTA, MEXICO) – Pizá Golf, recognized internationally for their innovative approach to golf course architecture which blends traditional British fundamentals with contemporary innovative designs from North America – reveals its ingenuity and out-of-the box approach to creating award winning renovations with its ‘Reassessment Techniques.’

Pizá Golf Founder and principal architect Agustin Pizá has earned a reputation for designing strategic but artistic renovations. He blends science with art. His formal architectural golf course training is steeped in agronomics, engineering, construction, and water-works which contributes directly to the quality of Pizá Golf’s build-outs. However, it is his artistic aptitude and ability to challenge the creative curtain that makes him an out-of-the box doer, not an out-of-the box thinker.

“Reassessment to us is more than a word or re-evaluation. It’s more like re-imagining the entire project on multi-levels to maximize its potential. These techniques help to challenge me and our team,” said Pizá.

Pizá Golf ‘Reassessment Techniques’ include:

· Gratitude

· Creating dialog with nature

· Homage to the beauty surrounding the golf course

· Sustainability – ecological, economic and social

· What if? Tangibles and Intangibles

· Aesthetic and strategic turf removal

· Multi-purpose golf feasibility study

· Inclusive to new and non-golfers (Real important during and post virus)

· ROI options

Pizá and his team can take a standard renovation and elevate an entire project by respecting these ‘Reassessment Techniques.’ A great example is the renovation at Cabo San Lucas Country Club in Los Cabos, Mexico.

Pizá and his team were commissioned by management to repair holes ten though 16 which were destroyed by the tropical storm Lidia. The entire renovation needed to be completed quickly – in six months or less and on budget. Time limitations as well as budgets could have thwarted the overall project but instead it became a pictorial of untapped potential.

For inclusive purposes, the par-4 10th hole was shortened so players of all levels could reach the putting green in regulation. Skilled players will find this hole fun as it is drivable. However, strategically positioned bunkers come into play on the right. The restructured hole plays tactically more difficult but also saved acreage which was used for an entirely new 11th hole.

In homage to the beauty of San Lucas, this new short par-3 was designed to face Land’s End, the international famous rock formation that protrudes from the ocean. The hole appears undemanding but the expanded putting green is perilous with its dramatic, undulating surface which tests every putt.

The previous par-4 11th is now the 12th hole. It has been lengthened to a challenging but fair par-5. Tucked around the lagoon are holes 13 and 14 which have been remodelled and feature rolling fairways that lead to spacious putting greens. Each require playing target golf – risk and reward.

To provide an area dedicated to a multi-purpose pitch and putt, the previous par-4 15th was eliminated. The new 15th was repositioned perfectly to follow the 14th and the tee boxes are nestled next to the lagoon. “Utilizing a multi-purpose pitch and putt will appeal to new and non-golfers as well as create a discretionary revenue stream,” added Pizá.

Again, the natural asset of the Sea of Cortez, motivated Pizá to design the par-5 hole towards the stunning views so the hole was entirely reversed. Now, golfers play into the stunning views.

“I am proud to say we reassessed, reimagined, and we rejoiced. This might be one of our favorite renovations. Plus management is thrilled. Their golfers LOVE the redesign and our commitment to turf reduction has decreased their maintenance costs by 22% within our renovated holes,” added Pizá.

PerfectMotion App Speeds Golfers’ Improvement Through Continuous Expert Feedback

Respected Coaches including Chip Beck, Joe Hallett and Mike Sullivan Use Breakthrough Teaching Tool

(BOSTON, MASS.) – Every golfer wants to consistently feel (and hear) the clean, “ball-first” contact that can only come from having developed a correct and repeatable swing. The PerfectMotion mobile app is a uniquely-personalized and immersive golf training system that allows golfers to quickly learn and feel correct body motion with every club through an innovative process of continuous expert feedback. With immediate feedback on every swing and putt, golfers learn to make adjustments until they groove proper technique. The end result is better contact, more accuracy and longer distance.

The PerfectMotion app allows golfers to train anywhere, anytime, with or without a ball, while receiving expert guidance on every swing and putt. To start improving, golfers simply place their phone on the ground angled up toward them and make swings with a driver, iron, wedge, or work on chips and putts. The app uses proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) to track the golfer’s body motion and instantly determine their key swing issue. Common faults detected include motion faults like swaying, set-up and posture issues, tempo problems and excessive head motion while putting. The app then calls up professional video instruction that addresses the golfer’s specific issue and helps eliminate it.

“The feedback from the app has made a huge difference in my game. My ball-striking has improved dramatically. Perfect Motion gives me the immediate feedback needed to learn and ultimately feel my proper swing while the three skill levels keeps me motivated,” says amateur golfer Jane D., a student of Bryan Lebedevitch of the PGA West Golf Academy. The two are able to work remotely, in this case from east coast to west coast, thanks to PerfectMotion’s virtual instruction platform.

HOW IT WORKS

The PerfectMotion app combines bio-mechanics, physics, and data science to create an ever-evolving set of rules that are applied to each swing in real-time. “We don’t have a template for a perfect swing.  Instead, by eliminating incorrect motion, we help all golfers achieve their own perfect motion– their unique motion signature. It’s the most personalized approach to golf improvement available today,” says PerfectMotion CEO Rich Kosowsky.

Better players start at, and less skilled golfers eventually progress to, a point where they don’t have any faults with their body motion. These golfers use the app’s MotionMap, a new and concise representation of a swing which includes a trace of the body’s motion, to make fine adjustments and dial-in their best shots.

“Once I saw PerfectMotion's unique motion-mapping system, I knew there was an easier way to help students rather than overwhelming them with angles, RPMs, and degrees,” says PGA Professional and GOLF Magazine Top100 Teacher Joe Hallett. “My students take ownership of their MotionMaps™ and understand that as their maps become more consistent, they are becoming better golfers.”

THE FIX

While PerfectMotion is a self-guided process that requires no trips to the lesson tee, perhaps the most powerful component of the app is the immediate access to top-tier golf instruction. Hallett, along with former PGA TOUR star Chip Beck (one of only 11 players to have shot 59 in a PGA TOUR round) and 20 year veteran instructor Mike Sullivan highlight a growing team of PerfectMotion partners who value the immediacy of the app’s feedback and direct connection between student and coach.

Beck’s notable playing career provides him a unique understanding of the fundamentals of the golf swing when he works with students to improve their game. “With PerfectMotion creating a real-time connection with all of my students, I now have an ability to deliver guidance and personalized instruction exactly when they need it,” Beck says.

In this video, Beck demonstrates how to properly access and benefit from the easy-to-use functions in the PerfectMotion app: https://youtu.be/sqzPczOVujw

ChipBeckVideo.jpgKosowsky points out that “with PerfectMotion, any golfer can receive personalized coaching from top instructors at a price point unheard of until now. The app immediately engages golfers, encouraging frequent usage. This usage generates the data a coach needs to evaluate golfers’ issues and efficiently deliver expert guidance and confidence. Golfers improve faster and the leverage created by the platform pays off for the instructor.”

IT'S THAT SIMPLE

The PerfectMotion app can be downloaded for the Apple iPhone in the iOS app store and for Android devices in the Google Play Store. The app comes with a 14-day free trial. After the trial, the Pro version costs $5.99 a month or a $59.99 annually.

Reynolds Lake Oconee To Host LPGA Drive On Championship

Great Waters, recently renovated by Jack Nicklaus, will test the greatest female golfers in the world, Oct. 22-25, 2020

(Greensboro, Ga.) – Reynolds Lake Oconee—the award-winning resort community situated on 19,000-acre Lake Oconee located between Atlanta and Augusta—will host the LPGA Tour Drive On Championship at Reynolds Lake Oconee, October 22-25, 2020.

The four-day, official full-field event will feature a purse of $1.3 million. Golf Channel will broadcast all four rounds with three hours of coverage each day.

The event will be played at Great Waters, one of six outstanding courses available to Reynolds Members and guests. Great Waters, which first opened in 1992, recently underwent an extensive renovation led by its designer, Jack Nicklaus. The completely rebuilt, modernized, and reconditioned course is a visually breathtaking test of championship golf along the Lake Oconee shoreline that looks almost exactly the way Nicklaus first designed it—but better.

“It is great that Reynolds Lake Oconee and Great Waters are stepping up to help the game of golf,” Nicklaus said. “The course we designed and opened 28 years ago was already very special, but after this latest renovation, I believe we added some polish to a gem. I think the ladies will absolutely love playing Great Waters. I think they will find it a good test but a fair one. I hope the LPGA has a tremendous week there, and that the competitors enjoy the course and the hospitality.”

Reynolds stepped in to host the world’s best women golfers after the LPGA Tour was forced to change its fall schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

U.S. Retail Golf Equipment Sales for August 2020 Up Nearly 32% Over August 2019

(Kissimmee, FL.)
— On the heels of the U.S. Open, golf’s second major of 2020, Golf Datatech, LLC, the golf industry’s leading independent market research firm for retail sales, consumer and trade trends, has announced that U.S. retail golf equipment sales for August 2020 were up nearly 32% over the same period in 2019, exceeding the previous all-time high August (2006), by 15%.

In total, U.S. golf retail equipment sales for August 2020 were $331 million, compared to August 2019, which were $251 million, and the previous record year of August 2006, which were $287 million.  Additionally, five equipment categories, set all-time records for August: balls, irons, wedges, bags and gloves. Overall, golf bags were the best performing equipment category in August, up 55% vs. August 2019, while YTD bag sales are up 5%.

“Golf Datatech started tracking golf equipment sales in 1997 and we have never seen a surge like what has happened in the summer of 2020, coming out of the worldwide shutdown from COVID-19,” said John Krzynowek, Partner, Golf Datatech, LLC. “While the overall 2020 U.S. retail golf equipment market is still down 4.1 % YTD from 2019,  this spike is nothing short of remarkable considering the game and business of golf was shut down for a good part of the spring season.”

Krzynowek adds, “The August sales record, which followed an all-time record month in July, is great news for the industry moving forward.  It indicates how popular golf is today, especially as an ideal social distancing activity.  Newcomers are coming into the game, existing golfers are playing much more, and  those who once played but left for a while are returning, which is the perfect combination to drive rounds played and spike equipment sales at retail.”

The August surge in U.S. retail golf equipment sales follows Golf Datatech’s recent report on July 2020 equipment sales of $388.6 million, which was also an all-time high since the Company started tracking data in 1997.

FlightScope Ambassador Bryson DeChambeau Captures U.S. Open Championship

(ORLANDO, FL)
– FlightScope – global leader in tracking and analyzing sports performance data – congratulates Bryson DeChambeau on his triumph at the U.S. Open Championship, where he finished with a six-stroke lead and was the only player under-par at Winged Foot Golf Club, outside of New York City.

DeChambeu trusts FlightScope’s popular X3 model to help prepare for competition, relying on it to provide the most accurate feedback possible during practice sessions on-course and on the driving range, as well as to help understand the effects of swing or equipment changes and how his training regimen impacts golf performance. The win marks his first major championship, although the 27-year-old has nine professional titles, including seven on the PGA TOUR. At Winged Foot, he finished first in the statistical categories of Strokes Gained and Eagles made, while averaging more than 325 yards off the tee throughout the week.

“Over the past few months I’ve totally changed my training habits, with a real focus on getting stronger,” says DeChambeau. “FlightScope helps me prove that the results I’m seeing in the gym are translating into real gains on the course, including spin rate, apex height, real and roll distance among others.”

With the victory, DeChambeau joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only golfers to win the U.S. Open Championship, U.S. Amateur Championship and NCAA Championship.

“No one works as tirelessly as Bryson on their golf game, as was evidenced by the fact that after all the other players left Winged Foot on Saturday night, he could be found hitting balls on the range with his X3,” said Henri Johnson, Founder & CEO of FlightScope. “Bryson is among the brightest young stars in the game and one of golf’s great examples of how data analysis can lead to optimal performance.”

FlightScope’s X3 tracking technology provides several world first benefits to players and instructors, including its patented ‘Fusion Tracking,’ a combination of 3D tracking and image processing creating unmatched performance data. Newly upgraded software features include Environmental Optimizer technology, another world first which enables players to plan and prepare for specific tournament conditions, without having to leave their home course. FlightScope’s MultiCam App allows golfers to automatically record and sync data from multiple cameras for instant on-screen review.

With accurate, performance-driven technology, FlightScope transforms the way golf is analyzed and how players improve. Beyond DeChambeau, the company’s renowned products are trusted by a large and growing number of TOUR players and top teachers, including Bubba Watson, George Gankas, and Mike Schy.

AHEAD Introduces New Headwear & Ornamentation Technique

AEROflex Provides Vibrant Look and Complements New Headwear Offerings

(NEW BEDFORD, Mass.) — Long renowned for its industry-leading, innovative ornamentation techniques, AHEAD is introducing AEROflex specifically for use on performance headwear.  The AEROflex technique allows AHEAD to produce custom silicone-like graphic pieces that bond to the hat without thread.

“With the new AEROflex technique, the logos are vibrant and really pop off the hat,” said Chuck Lord, Chief Creative Officer, AHEAD. “There are no set-up charges with AEROflex, and the technique allows for AHEAD to color coordinate them to every SKU on the order. We also are able to accommodate smaller minimum orders and provide quicker turnaround to help retailers react to ebbs and flows in business.”

Lord said this is particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic as pro shops respond to varying levels of demand and may have a greater need than before with a quick turnaround on products.

“We have a track record for quick turnaround and during the pandemic we have made it a priority to become even more efficient,” Lord said. “When you combine these attributes with a huge variety of in-stock headwear styles and colors, plus unparalleled ornamentation, that gives us a real advantage in responding to customer need. AHEAD has always offered a variety of ornamentation techniques that fit into that plan, but AEROflex gives us something really unique for performance headwear.”

Alongside AEROflex comes the introduction of a new technical cap called The Match Play (M14LAY). This structured crown, solid colored cap is made of a lightweight, dimpled “jersey mesh” polyester fabric, and features a pre-curved visor. “Performance headwear is a key segment of the business. Coupling the techy AEROflex graphics with great looking new styles like this is a great way to boost sales,” Lord commented.

For the 2021 headwear line, AHEAD will also be introducing Americana, a new collection of caps that answers consumer demand for red, white and blue themes. Offerings include a mix of cotton and performance hats — one with small embroidered American flags, another with sublimation-printed navy stars, while yet another with a subtle stars-and-stripes woven accent near the wearer’s temple.

“Maybe it’s the fact we’re in an election year or perhaps because we’re all ‘in this together’ going through a pandemic, but the colors red, white and blue are blazing hot,” Lord said. With the Ryder Cup now scheduled for 2021 this trend will continue well into next year.”

AHEAD also is capitalizing on the early success of its Largo style hat, which was initially introduced at the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show in January. The soft-crowned silhouette, medium-weight twill classic cap features a pre-curved visor and will now be available in dozens of colors. In addition to the golf market, Lord said the Largo cap caters to the resort market with a multitude of fresh new colors.
