Bridgestone Golf Extends Multi-year Endorsement Agreement with Matt Kuchar

(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf – innovator of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – has signed a multi-year extension of its endorsement agreement with PGA Tour superstar Matt Kuchar, who currently plays and promotes the company’s high-performance golf balls, clubs and accessories.

The seven-time PGA Tour winner and Olympic Bronze medalist has relied on Bridgestone equipment in some capacity since 2000. He will also sport Bridgestone headwear and feature the company’s logo on his apparel. In addition, Kuchar will continue to appear in select marketing campaigns.

Jerry Kelly Named PGA Tour Champions Rookie of the Year

(Jacksonville, FL) – PGA TOUR Champions has named Jerry Kelly the 2017 Rookie of the Year. Kelly was presented the award Tuesday evening at the PGA TOUR Champions Annual Awards Dinner held at the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.

Kelly rose to the top of a celebrated rookie class that included David Toms, Steve Flesch and Steve Stricker. After turning 50 on November 23, 2016, Kelly debuted with a T3 finish at the Chubb Classic. He added three more top-10’s before entering the winner’s circle at the Boeing Classic. That victory started a streak of five straight top-10s, which included another victory at the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship. He finished the year with the fifth-best scoring average (69.34), thanks in part to his record-setting streak of 16 straight rounds in the 60s, and he was seventh in the final Charles Schwab Cup standings.

Each week more and more Top Professionals from the PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour are choosing to put a Cure Putter into play. This past weekend Jerry Kelly used a Cure CX1 putter to capture yet another win in the 2018 season’s opening event on the PGA tour Champions at the Mitsubiushi Electric Championship at Hualalai, Kailua-Kona, HI.

PING Signs Tony Finau to Equipment Contract

(PHOENIX) – Tony Finau, a PGA Tour winner and one of the longest hitters on tour, has signed a multi-year agreement to represent PING, company President John K. Solheim announced today. The 28-year-old Salt Lake City native led the just-completed Farmers Insurance Open with an average drive of 325.6 yards and is second on tour in average driving distance at 328.8 yards. He switched to the new PING G400 Max driver at this season’s Sony Open. He will make his debut as a PING Pro at this week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open.

“Tony is very charismatic and has tremendous character,” Solheim said. “He’s great with the fans and well-respected by his fellow tour players. He’s one of the most athletic players on tour who uses his strength to generate a lot of power -– he can really hit the ball a long way and has the overall game to become a consistent winner on tour. We’ve developed a great relationship with him in the last year as he’s looked to play the best equipment available for his game. We believe it’s a great fit for both of us.”

At 6' 4" and 200 pounds, Finau was a premier high school athlete in several sports, most notably basketball. But golf was his first passion, and he turned pro out of high school at age 17. He earned his PGA Tour card for the 2015 season with a win on the Web.com Tour in 2014. In 2016, he won the Puerto Rico Open on the PGA Tour.

“I’m honored to become part of the PING Tour team,” said Finau. “The family atmosphere, people and core values at the company really spoke to me. I’ve played their equipment for the last year and have gotten to know their tour reps and the engineering team in Phoenix very well in the process. I’m most impressed with their passion for designing the best equipment in the game for golfers of all skill levels, and I know that their commitment to properly fitting and building equipment to fit my game will maximize my confidence every time I step on the tee.”

As part of a multi-year agreement, Finau will carry a PING staff bag and play a minimum of 11 PING clubs.

Financial terms and the length of the agreement were not disclosed.

New GAME GOLF PRO Offers Unprecedented Shot Tracking for Golfers

Automotive-Grade Sensors and New Feats Provide Seamless Experience and Instant, Accurate Feedback

(San Francisco) – GAME GOLF, the #1 GPS stat tracker in golf, takes real-time shot tracking to the next level with the announcement of their third-generation technology GAME GOLF PRO, providing golfers with the ability to capture the most accurate shot data possible with absolute freedom.

Taking advantage of the industry’s most advanced shot-tracking technology is this easy: arrive at the first tee, turn on GAME GOLF PRO and play. Unlike earlier iterations, there’s no need to tap the GAME GOLF tags on your clubs on the sensor. All you have to do is play golf—and every shot, distance, and club used is automatically tracked.

Incorporating autonomous-grade sensors used by top automotive brands such as Tesla, GAME GOLF PRO is so smart that it can differentiate real shots from practice swings. GAME GOLF PRO also doesn’t miss shots and you don’t need to have your phone in your pocket, unlike competing systems. In fact, GAME GOLF PRO has its own battery and GPS included so you can leave your phone at home saving you data and battery life, if you choose.

GAME GOLF has remained the market leader in GPS-shot tracking through its relentless devotion to innovation, and by partnering with the PGA of America and leading components manufacturers such as NXP Semiconductors.

In designing GAME GOLF PRO, data was analyzed from two million rounds played by members of the GAME GOLF community in 137 countries. PGA of America and touring professionals provided valuable feedback from their experience with GAME GOLF, that has helped in the development of this product.

“We are proud to launch GAME GOLF PRO which fulfills our vision to
enhance the golfer's on-course experience in a way that's easy and convenient, and uses the best real-time shot-tracking capabilities available today,” said John McGuire, CEO and founder of GAME GOLF.

“Even though we created the GPS stat-tracking category and remain the market leader, we have been dedicated to enhancing the experience of using GAME GOLF so that golfers no longer had to tap their club on the GAME GOLF sensor. Now, you can just play golf, and GAME GOLF PRO accurately provides golfers with the best tracked data in the game today.

“Incorporating the latest technology from NXP Semiconductors, used in the autonomous motor industry by top car brands like Tesla, GAME GOLF PRO delivers reliable and accurate shot detection that is beyond the scope of competing systems.” McGuire added.

NEW SMART CADDIE HELPS YOU MAKE DATA-DRIVEN DECISIONS

For those golfers who want to use their phones, GAME GOLF PRO has a rangefinder and the newly developed Smart Caddie feature.

Coming to market in 2018, GAME GOLF Smart Caddie helps golfers make data-driven decisions based on your previously tracked performance by recommending clubs and hole strategy. Competing systems give you a recommendation for how to play a hole. Smart Caddie takes it one step further, providing you with recommendations for every shot you face on a hole. And there is no manual entry required.

With Smart Caddie, it’s like having a personal caddie who considers every shot you’ve ever hit, has identified all of your tendencies and understands the course. Smart Caddie can even calculate the effect of weather and elevation in making its recommendations.

“GAME GOLF is the ultimate tool in providing golfers with personal data that allows them to match their game to the challenges the course is presenting,” McGuire said.

COACHING DASHBOARD SPEEDS IMPROVEMENT PROCESS

Designed with the input of PGA of America Golf Professionals, the new GAME GOLF Coaching Dashboard not only allows you to accurately determine the parts of your game that need improvement, but it also makes it easy to share your data with your PGA Professional.

“The Coaching Dashboard allows players and coaches to speed the improvement process by tracking a player’s strengths, weaknesses and tendencies on one page. It also allows the PGA Professional to build lesson plans based on a player’s on-course performance analytics rather than having to rely solely on analyzing a golfer’s swing,” McGuire said.

With GAME GOLF, friends, parents and your PGA Professional miles away can stay informed as soon as you walk off the 18th green. Once your round is completed, your selected network will receive an email notification with a complete round analysis. This allows your PGA Professional to stay on top of your growth and provide timely feedback that can help you make adjustments that lead to better golf.

GAME GOLF INTELLIGENCE: Know Your Course

GAME GOLF INTELLIGENCE puts a new spin on the GAME Golf tag line of ‘Know Your Game.’ GAME GOLF INTELLIGENCE provides the golf industry with a tool it can use to lower maintenance costs, increase pace of play, improve course set-up and playability, and make courses safer.

“By drawing on our database of more than two-million rounds—the richest source of tracked rounds golf—GAME GOLF INTELLIGENCE makes it possible for course owners, club management, superintendents and golf architects to respond to how golfers are actually experiencing their course,” McGuire said. “Our tag line for GAME GOLF INTELLIGENCE is ‘Know Your Course.’

“It’s another example of how GAME GOLF technology is not only helping golfers have more fun and improve their games, but it’s also helps grow and improve the game.”

Billy Casper Golf Named Management Partner for Spanish Wells Golf & Country Club

(RESTON, VA) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – the highly respected and innovative manager of golf courses, country clubs and resorts – has been selected by the Spanish Wells Community Association (SWCA) to manage Spanish Wells Golf & Country Club (Spanish Wells Golf) in Bonita Springs, Fla.

The 1,353 residences – which comprise the SWCA – voted 81% in favor of purchasing Spanish Wells Golf as part of their endeavor to protect open space and increase home values. They were provided significant and welcome assistance in their purchase effort by senior officials of Wells Fargo Bank, which held the former property owners’ mortgage. SWCA secured a loan from Centennial Bank to purchase Spanish Wells Golf.

Following the club’s purchase, SWCA sought established golf management company support. The search led to a partnership with BCG, which owns and operates nearly 150 properties nationwide and more than 25 in Florida. Under the 10-year, license agreement, BCG will oversee course and property maintenance, staffing and training, clubhouse activities, golf instruction, merchandising, marketing and public relations, and special events. BCG will also assume financial management with 75% of net revenues being reinvested back into Spanish Wells Golf.

“The acquisition of Spanish Wells Golf by SWCA created the ultimate synergy between a golf course community and its club facilities, aligning community goals to increase both the experience and value for residents and guests,” says Joe Goodrich, BCG Executive Vice President. “We are excited about this opportunity as it represents a replicable model for how residents of golf course communities can assume control over the golf course in their backyard, and ultimately protect open space, community lifestyle and property values.”

Spanish Wells Golf operations will be locally-managed by a professional golf and agronomic team, and supported by a regional and national BCG team that provides expert guidance and direction in all facets of the business. Specific initial capital improvement plans have yet to be determined. BCG will work with SWCA to develop a long-range capital plan based on market opportunities and feedback from residents. Together, the BCG/SWCA partnership will plan and implement the best practices in golf course management, agronomic care and marketing.

“Billy Casper Golf’s impressive track record in situations like ours – and strong Florida presence – gave us confidence our club would thrive under their management,” says Bill Vandergrift, SWCA Board President.

In addition to 27 player-friendly holes, Spanish Wells Golf boasts a state-of-the-art practice facility featuring an aqua driving range, pitching and chipping area, separate practice area for sand play, and a large putting green. USGA Announces Winners of 2018 Service Awards

Individuals to be Honored During Association’s Annual Meeting

(LIBERTY CORNER, N.J.) - In recognition of outstanding contributions to the game of golf, the United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced its annual Service Awards winners. The individuals will be recognized on Saturday, Feb. 3 during a gala dinner at the USGA Annual Meeting in Miami, Fla.

This year’s USGA Service Awards celebrate the leadership, dedication and exemplary efforts of 26 individuals who have devoted their time and talents to serve the game.

“These extraordinary individuals are committed to leading with impact in their communities,” said Mike Davis, USGA CEO/Executive Director. “The USGA is proud to recognize them for their achievements and contributions to the game.”

Award winners include the following:

Gilbert “Gib” Palmer, Joe Dey Award
Presented annually since 1996, the Joe Dey Award recognizes an individual’s meritorious service to the game as a volunteer. The award is named for the late Joseph C. Dey Jr., who served as USGA executive director from 1934-1969 before becoming the first commissioner of the PGA Tour.

This year’s honoree, Gib Palmer, of Midlothian, Va., has served on the USGA’s Junior Championship Committee since 1996. During that time, he has served as a Rules official at nearly 20 U.S. Junior Amateur Championships while also volunteering at numerous other USGA championships. Palmer’s father gave him his first set of golf clubs, and he has been invested in the game since that moment. He also serves as an instrumental leader of the Virginia State Golf Association and the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame – an organization he helped establish.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Joe Dey many years ago and there is no one who better represented integrity, honesty and respect for the game,” said Palmer. “To be associated with his reputation is a tremendous honor and I’m incredibly thankful for this recognition.”

Dr. Lane Demas, Herbert Warren Wind Book Award
Established in 1987, the Herbert Warren Wind Book Award recognizes and honors outstanding contributions to golf literature while seeking to broaden the public’s interest in, and knowledge of, the game of golf. Wind, who died in 2005, was a renowned writer for The New Yorker and Sports Illustrated. He is the only writer to win the Bob Jones Award, the USGA’s highest honor.

Game of Privilege: An African American History of Golf, authored by this year’s recipient, Dr. Lane Demas, is a groundbreaking exploration of the role of race, class and access to the game of golf. Dr. Demas details the history of black golfers during the age of segregation, the legal battle to integrate public golf courses, and the little-known history of the United Golfers Association, an all-black golf tour that operated from 1925 to 1975.

“I’m proud of the fact that this book provides a narrative and historical content that’s accessible to everyone, especially the everyday golf fan,” said Dr. Demas. “It’s very humbling to receive this prestigious award and be recognized by a premier organization such as the USGA.”

Tim Hiers, Green Section Award
Presented annually since 1961, the USGA Green Section Award recognizes an individual’s distinguished service to the game of golf through his or her work with turfgrass, including research, maintenance and other areas that positively impact the landscape upon which golf is played.

The 2018 recipient, Tim Hiers, has been a golf course superintendent since 1976 and currently serves as the director of agronomy at The Club at Mediterra in Naples, Fla. Hiers stands at the forefront of golf’s environmental opportunities and challenges, while also driving advances in golf course management. Like TPT Golf's 11 current retail shaft models, the prototype shafts are created with the company's "Thin-Ply Winding Method," a revolutionary, automated manufacturing process that ensures unrivaled consistency and unlocks superior performance for golfers of all abilities.

The Thin-Ply Winding Method is patent-pending, robot-driven manufacturing process allows TPT Golf to independently optimize each shaft design parameter so that golfers can realize improved distance, better accuracy and more consistency. It also creates a perfectly concentric shaft with no seams, allowing TPT Golf to create shafts that are finely tuned to precise specifications time after time.

Le Touquet Golf Resort’s Le Manoir voted France’s Best Golf Hotel

(Le Touquet, France) - Le Manoir Hotel at Le Touquet Golf Resort, home of France’s #1 links course, has been voted Best Golf Hotel/Resort in France by readers of Today’s Golfer magazine (UK), for the second successive year.

The award comes as the 41-room residence enters the final phase of a comprehensive upgrade, designed to transform it into a boutique style hotel.

The restaurant, La Table du Manoir, has been the first amenity to benefit. Opened in the summer of 2017, the new décor and fixtures deliver a bright and airy feel, which echo the aesthetics of the resort’s architect designed clubhouse.

The hotel’s transformation has continued this winter with improvements to the bar, reception and other communal areas. Their completion, in early 2018, will ensure a boutique style in harmony with Le Manoir’s history and heritage.

“It’s easy to see why our readers hold Le Manoir in such high regard,” said Today’s Golfer courses editor Kevin Brown. “Improving décor and facilities, friendliness, value and superb accessibility for UK golfers make a compelling package… and that’s before you consider Le Manoir is on the doorstep of two of France’s finest courses, in Le Touquet’s challenging La Mer and La Forêt layouts.

Kevin added: “Le Manoir’s continued recognition in the annual Travel Awards is a deserved endorsement of the hotel’s enduring popularity and quality.”
The improvements at Le Manoir are part of a comprehensive investment programme at Le Touquet Golf Resort, which has included the restoration of the La Mer course, a classic 1931 Colt and Alison design rated France’s #1 links, as well as a new clubhouse.

Le Touquet was Europe’s most fashionable resort of the ‘Roaring Twenties’ and 1930s and it remains an iconic destination, blending elegant style and architecture with boutiques, bistros and casinos. The town is also the long-time weekend retreat of President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, where they have a residence.

Le Touquet Golf Resort, which is part of the Open Golf Club group, is easily reached from the UK, Belgium and The Netherlands, as well as the rest of France by road and rail. Less than an hour’s drive south of the Eurotunnel terminus, it is accessed via the A16 autoroute. It is also just a short connecting train journey from the Eurostar hub at Gare de Calais-Fréthun.

Advocacy Group Promotes Youth Caddying, Helps Develop Young Golfers

Western Golf Association partners with World Golf Foundation and other organizations on Carry the Game initiative

(GOLF, Ill.) – Together with a number of leading golf organizations, the Western Golf Association (WGA) announces today a groundbreaking initiative centered around promoting youth caddying and golf called Carry the Game.

Carry the Game is an advocacy group that introduces young students to the game of golf by creating additional opportunities for them to train and work as caddies and encourages them to become lifelong players.

Through caddying, young people learn valuable life lessons, develop a strong work ethic and money management skills, and make professional contacts on the golf course. In addition to being a great way to learn about the game, caddying provides life-changing benefits that are instrumental to their individual growth.

Carry the Game operates under the organizational umbrella of the WGA; participants in the effort include the World Golf Foundation, United States Golf Association, PGA of America, The First Tee and Youth on Course, among other groups. This special collaboration to promote the role of youth caddying within the game of golf will help ensure Carry the Game’s long-term success while encouraging a new generation of young golfers to play the game.

“Over the past few years, numerous leading golf organizations have discussed the importance of creating a governing body for youth caddying, and we’re excited to see that the WGA is spearheading this important initiative,” said World Golf Foundation CEO Steve Mona. “The WGA is a recognized leader in youth caddying, and we’re all looking forward to working together to help bring this effort to life.”

Carry the Game will be a resource for anyone interested in becoming a caddie or forming a youth caddie program. In 2018, the group will begin an extensive research project to provide qualitative data on the current state of youth caddying and inform the initiative’s work.

The overall goal of Carry the Game is to increase the number of youth caddies – and the diversity of those caddies – by helping to establish additional caddying opportunities at golf clubs nationwide. Carry the Game will also promote youth caddie programs as a way to create future golfers and preserve and enhance the tradition of caddying within the game of golf.

It will offer resources including caddie training materials and certification, a caddie club locator, best practices on creating and managing programs, media and public relations support, and knowledge and expertise on all caddie-related topics.

“Through Carry the Game, our goal is to provide young people with an early introduction to golf by creating life-changing opportunities to work as a caddie,” said WGA President and CEO John Kaczkowski. “Ultimately, we believe the experiences and mentorship gained through caddying are invaluable to a young person’s development and will help cultivate a lifelong passion for playing golf. Some of golf’s greatest players, as well as many of the world’s most successful executives, emerged from the caddie ranks. We look forward to supporting current and future caddies as they continue the legacy of a game so beloved and carry it forward for years to come.”

Carry the Game will also share and promote local and national caddie scholarship opportunities and resources.

“The Westin Kierland Golf Club is known for its commitment to innovation and fun. We’ve paired that commitment with the goal of bringing more women into the game,” said Nancy Dickens, director of golf, The Westin Kierland Golf Club.

The idea of the Women’s Golf Expo was conceived by Sandy LaBauve, a Golf Digest “Top 50 Golf Instructor” who teaches at Kierland’s LaBauve Golf Academy, and former LPGA player and local instructor Tina Tombs. The event provides women who are new to golf an ideal introduction to the game in a friendly setting, while helping veteran players learn tips for improving their game.

TaylorMade Golf Company Announces new Project (a) and Project (s) Golf Balls

Re-engineered Golf Ball Construction and Tour-Proven Technologies Deliver Uncompromised Distance & Feel for the Recreational Player

(Carlsbad, Calif.) – TaylorMade Golf Company, an industry leader in golf innovation and technology and makers of the Hottest Tour Ball* with the TP5 & TP5x models, announced today the expansion of its globally successful golf ball lineup with the addition of the 2018 Project (a) and the introduction of the all-new Project (s) golf balls.

Tour Technology. Soft Feel.
Since its inception in 2014, the Project (a) golf ball has been designed to deliver golfers Tour-level performance in a three-piece construction at an attractive price point. The original Project (a) gained notoriety by being designed with a cast urethane cover to provide Tour-level spin for the average golfer, a performance attribute unmatched by anything in the category. In 2016, the ball was made softer with lower compression while maintaining the greenside spin demanded by consumers. In 2018, Project (a) takes the next step in its evolution with new technologies that make it significantly longer than ever before.

“100% of worldwide Tours use a golf ball with a Urethane cover, while 0% use suryln. If every Tour player and Tour ball manufacturer in the world is telling you urethane is the best material, why wouldn’t you buy the only product outside the Tour ball category using this technology that’s now longer than ever before?” -Michael Fox, Category Director, Golf Balls & Accessories

The new Project (a) is a three-layer design that incorporates a new Dual-Distance core and a new 322LDP seamless dimple pattern which combined increase driver and long iron distance while maintaining excellent greenside control and feel.

New 322 Dimple Seamless Cover
The Project (a) now uses the same 322 dimple pattern as the hottest Tour ball in golf, the TP5 & TP5x golf balls; resulting in superior distance through a more aerodynamic dimple pattern. Less drag = more speed = more distance.

Dual-Distance Core
The new Project (a)’s dual core design is comprised of a larger, softer-inner core, which scrubs off unwanted spin while providing great feel. The stiffer outer core allows for increased rebound and velocity. In addition to reducing driver and long iron spin, the stiffer outer core also aides in pinching the soft cast urethane cover between the clubface, creating more greenside spin.
Project (s)

Soft is Slow without Speed
Complementing the Project (a), TaylorMade is also introducing the all-new Project (s) golf ball. The all-new Project (s) offers an even softer feel while continuing the company’s focus on low driver spin and significant driver distance; a golf ball unlike any in the competitive class to date. To break through in a crowded and diluted space, TaylorMade has designed one golf ball that delivers on the two performance attributes amateur players in this category want most: soft feel AND distance. No longer does the golfer have to choose between one or the other with a single ball. That ball is Project (s).

Dual-Distance Core
Similar to the Project (a) the Dual-Distance Core in the Project (s) decreases the overall compression of the ball for soft feel while maintaining rebound and speed. The Project (s)’s compression is 60, 10 less than the Project (a). The dual distance core is a two-layer system that has a large, low compression inner core that reduces unwanted driver spin and creates great feel. The outer core consists of a softer-resilient polymer that also improves feel and maintains high ball velocities.

Aerodynamic Ionomer Cover
Due to the high COR of the Dual-Distance Core, engineers were able to use a soft ionomer cover that improves feel and control around the green. Compared to the competitive set, the Project (s) has the softest cover which provides more greenside spin and soft feel.
The Project (s) uses TaylorMade’s high lift 342LDP dimple pattern, which, in combination with the lower backspin construction, reduces drag throughout the golf ball’s flight for more distance. In general, lower compression golf balls travel the shortest distance, but with Project (s), TaylorMade’s engineers have solved for soft while maintaining impressive distance. The result is a golf ball that delivers on both distance and feel, allowing for golfers to no longer having to choose between one over the other. In addition to gloss white, the new Project (s) is also available in a matte yellow & matte orange finish that offers a unique look that stands out while being UV resistant.

“The new multilayer design incorporates a softer yet resilient dual distance core that maximizes distance and enables us to utilize a softer ionomer cover for soft feel and great control. We are eliminating the need for a golfer to choose between distance and feel in this category. The new Project (s) provides both softer feel AND distance.” - Eric Loper, Director R&D Golf Balls

Pricing & Availability
The 2018 Project (a) & Project (s) golf balls will be available at retail on February 16 and April 1 at an MSRP of $34.99 & $24.99 USD per dozen, respectively. Project (a) will be offered in gloss white or yellow, while Project (s) will be offered in gloss white as well as matte orange or matte yellow.
