Rio Verde Community and Country Club Upgrading Greenside Bunkers

Restoration Includes Updated Drainage and Liners, Finer Sand in Bunkers on Both Courses

(RIO VERDE, Ariz.) – Rio Verde Community and Country Club – the award-winning residential enclave northeast of Scottsdale – announces both its Quail Run and White Wing golf courses are undergoing a complete greenside bunker update.

The project consists of updating all greenside bunkers’ drainage systems, and installing new fabric liners and a finer, natural colored sand. The update to the Quail Run greenside bunkers started earlier this month and completion is slated for early August. Once the Quail Run project is completed, work will begin on the White Wing greenside bunkers. The White Wing project should be completed by early September.

Each golf course will be closed during its bunker upgrade project.

“The bunker updates are a major investment back into the course that will help maintain our first-rate facilities,” says Dave Ulm, General Manager at Rio Verde. “The work will greatly enhance the golf experience at Rio Verde, both aesthetically and from a playability standpoint.”

The Lehman Design Group renovated Quail Run and White Wing as part of a $6.5 million project, modernizing both courses while retaining their “soft desert” playability. Playing to 6,602 yards, Quail Run sports a traditional design reminiscent of America’s great Midwestern golf venues. The par-70, 6,535-yard White Wing features links-style elements such as fairway mounding, open green fronts and stacked-sod bunkering.

Earlier this year, the Audubon International Sustainable Community program re-designated Rio Verde as a Certified Sustainable Community after the enclave demonstrated continuous progress through the organization’s strict requirements and criteria. The re-certification validated Rio Verde as a leading community in preserving a healthy local environment and quality of life for its citizens, and a pioneer of the Sustainable Communities Program.

A year ago, Rio Verde hired Troon Golf to manage the country club and joined its elite Privé brand, the premier private club division of Troon.

With 735 acres bordering the Tonto National Forest and McDowell Mountains, Rio Verde stands out for its unrivaled views and serenity. The community, recently tabbed by MSN.com as “one of the top retirement communities in America,” also boasts a unique sense of kinship among relationship-oriented buyers searching for more than just a “Valley of the Sun” address. Ideal for those who enjoy an active lifestyle, Rio Verde offers resort-style amenities including pickleball, tennis, bocce, a community center, and nearby hiking and biking trails.
